"Nothing better in Battlefield 3" to go back to after Battlefield 4.

Whoever demanded a remake or port for Battlefield 3 for next gen consoles after Battlefield 4 releases, then bad news: DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has revealed at Gamescom that they “would not rehash [Battlefield 3 for PS4 & Xbox One].”

“It wouldn’t be worth it. I think it’s better to bring back the maps like we’re doing and then maybe there’s some other fan favourite that people really want and we can probably bring that back as well. But the feature set and the core game of Battlefield 3 versus Battlefield 4, it would be going backwards in time.

“There’s nothing really in Battlefield 3 that’s better than Battlefield 4, in my opinion. Of course, people might not agree, but in my book there’s nothing that is better in BF3, so why bring it back? That would be a very retro thing to do. Maybe two generations ahead we can do that and do like a retro rehash, but then I think people will always pick Battlefield 4 to do that.”

Battlefield 4 releases on October 29th for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, with a PS4 release on November 15th in North America and an Xbox One release slated for later.

Senior VP Christian Svensson explains its cancellation.

Remember that supposed gritty reboot of Mega Man, codenamed Maverick Hunter, that was unearthed not too long ago, with the game taking place from a first person shooter perspective and featuring several ex-Metroid Prime developers working on it? The same game that was cancelled for reasons unknown?

Today, in a new post on the forums, fans asked about the project and debated on whether it should have really been cancelled or not. Corporate officer and senior vice president Christian Svensson actually responded before the thread was locked. His response?

“Given the lack of consensus in this thread alone, that should tell you what you needed to know. Suffice to say, there were very polarized opinions internally on this project as well.”

Essentially, with the amount of disagreement inside and outside the company, it makes sense that Capcom would rather pull the plug rather than sink tons of money into something not everyone would like. DmC: Devil May Cry, anyone?

Alex Ward from Criterion Games debunked the rumor of a Need for Speed Underground reboot. A recent link suggested that the new Need for Speed title would take place in the original Bay-view setting just like the original Need for Speed Underground.

Alex has stated on Twitter: “Totally fake. Remakes and Reboots? #movedon”. He then later adds, “May as well add this. Sequels.Reboots. Remakes. Been there. Done that.”

Last game that was released by Criterion was the reboot of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which came out for multiple platforms in October 2012. The game was met with critical acclaim and we also showered praises on it. You can check our review here.

Question still remains, are they working on another reboot or making a totally brand new racing game? Stay tuned on GamingBolt for more information regarding the next title in the Need for Speed franchise. Leave any comments or opinions you have down below.

Whether its your shift at work finally climaxing towards your inevitable freedom, or a truly life-changing cup of tea being slowly sipped away, all things must pass. The same can be said of certain game franchises to an extent, with the things we love about the first game in a series quickly losing their lustre three or four games down the line. Plenty of popular game series are getting to this point where things are just getting a bit stale.

Tomb Raider is but one example, a situation where the decision was made to reboot the franchise in the hope of reviving it. Whether this will pay off is yet to be seen, but there are plenty of other franchises that could do with a similar treatment in order to shake things up. Here’s ten that we reckon could do with a reboot.

Take a look here for more exciting features. Do you agree with the list above? Which video game franchises you think requires a reboot? Let us know in the comments section below.

LucasArts has dismissed the idea of a Star Trek-type Star Wars reboot. They feel the series still has a lot of gaming potential, and that they can re-imagine their formulas and implement them correctly.

Speaking in an interview with ComputerAndVideoGames.com, executive producer Hayden Blackman argued that Star Wars in no way clashes with the same plotpoints as comic books like Spider-Man and such.

“Not really,” he said when asked if the Lucas companies were discussing a franchise ‘reboot’. “We don’t necessarily perceive it in the same way of there being all these divergent threads.

“When I started at the company 13 years ago I worked on this reference project that was an encyclopedia, and I was warned when I first took the job that I was going to have difficulty dealing with continuity conflicts – but there weren’t that many, there were a handful.

“LucasArts licensing does a really great job of keeping everything consistent and having it make sense,” he added.

“If there is ever a conflict they find really creative ways to explain away that conflict, so I don’t feel like its like a lot of comic book companies where they have so many timelines in so many different worlds that they need to collapse them all.

“We don’t have that same problem, what we do have a strong desire to do is to re-imagine Star Wars, based on the medium and that’s what we did with Force Unleashed 1.

“That’s where the idea for the over the top Force powers came from, but from a story standpoint we never use the story to explain why the powers were all over the top, that’s the way the Force is portrayed in our particular medium and fans love that.”

At the end of the interview, he also said the he would love to see a Super Star Wars (the SNES classic) remake on the Xbox 360.

Your thoughts? Tell us in your comments.
