In the midst of all the Red Dead sequel teasing from Rockstar Games, many have wondered if the supposed successor to the open world Western could be going online a la GTA Online. A recent trademark registered by Take Two Interactive seems to indicate as much.

As per Bill Wright on Twitter, Take Two registered a trademark for a domain called “RedDead.Online”. We’re still waiting for the supposed trailer which should be out by this Thursday according to other rumours but at this point – and given the success of Rockstar’s other online venture – it’s safe to assume some kind of multiplayer component from the next Red Dead.

Rockstar has been stirring the collective internet’s interest with teases of a new Red Dead game. After an image was recently released to tease what could be a “Magnificent Seven”-style sequel, former TechRadar writer and Wareable news editor Hugh Langley took to Twitter to confirm a trailer was coming.

Sources told Langley that the sequel’s trailer, dubbed “Red Dead Redemption 2“, “is scheduled for Thursday, though to be honest wouldn’t surprise me if Rockstar decides to fire earlier.”

TechRadar further corroborated sources involved that a trailer was indeed on its way. However, as Langley noted, it may be a while before we actually get to play the next Red Dead. “Good luck playing it before 2018 though. This is Rockstar.”

While at this point, it is more and more clear that a Red Dead Redemption sequel – a Red Dead 3 – is in fact coming, we don’t have anything in the way of official confirmation. Hungry fans, who have been waiting for a sequel to the 2010 hit for years now, have therefore taken to trying to scout out information on an upcoming Red Dead 3 announcement themselves.

Earlier today, for example, a report emerged that users had managed to find references to a Red Dead Retribution in the source code of Rockstar’s website, fueling speculation that a Red Dead 3 was indeed coming, and that it would be called Red Dead Retribution. However, as PowerUpGaming are reporting, people are jumping to conclusions here.

A simple look at the source code that was shared by the user earlier today confirms that the reference to Red Dead Retribution is essentially a false positive. The code in question was part of Rockstar’s site analytics, tracking previous URLs the user had tried to access- in this case, the user had tried to access a URL for Red Dead Retribution and also Red Dead Redemption 2.

So no, the site code does not prove anything. But at this point, it’s all but confirmed that a Red Dead 3 is coming anyway. Now we just wait for the official announcement.

Rockstar Games released an image yesterday of their logo but with a red-tinged background. Naturally, this led to a lot of speculation as to whether it was teasing Red Dead 3, Red Dead Redemption 2 or some kind of Red Dead sequel. It’s a stretch based on such a simple image but there you go.

However, with its most recent tease, Rockstar does seem to be hinting towards something Western-related. Its latest tweet showcases seven silhouettes against the setting sun. This image actually resembles The Magnificent Seven, recently remade in Hollywood and well-known for its Western characters.

The question is: What does it all mean? If there is going to be a new Red Dead title, will it be some kind of multi-man take on the Western genre? Given the developer’s online bent over the past few years with Grand Theft Auto Online, it certainly seems possible.

Unless you are living under the rock you must be aware that Rockstar have started to tease the next Red Dead game. Red Dead Redemption was a huge hit on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, garnering a massive following among fans. Now it seems that fans who have been clamoring for a sequel for years have responded back with nothing but a lot of love. In other words, they have gone nuts on several social media platforms.

The original tweet, at the time of this writing has garnered over 70,000 re-tweets and 100,000 likes. On Instagram, the number of likes have exceeded over 100,000 and the count on Facebook has already passed 45,000. This is absolutely ridiculous and I don’t recall any game reaching this levels of anticipation. Perhaps Grand Theft Auto 5 may have when Rockstar revealed it back in 2011 but the current situation is nothing but phenomenal.

Fans have been waiting for a third Red Dead game for a long time now. Red Dead Redemption was an absolute masterpiece, and one of the best games of the previous generation- so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody. But news on a third Red Dead game has been hard to come by, with fans having being strung along with the expectation of a new title for many months, if not years now.

But that might all be about to change. In a brand new tweet that Rockstar have tweeted, it appears that they are in fact teasing a brand new Red Dead game. Don’t believe me? You can check out the tweet for yourself below. I mean, it’s pretty red.

As for when a proper announcement will happen for this tease, my assumption is a few days to a week from now is when we will hear of Red Dead 3 (that’s how it was with Grand Theft Auto 5, too). But just having it properly acknowledged by Rockstar is probably enough to send a lot of fans into full on hype mode.

With E3 having come and gone, and there having been no announcement of a new Red Dead, in spite of so much speculation, anticipation, and so many rumors pointing to it happening, and with Gamescom being around the corner, and Take Two being confirmed to be in attendance, you can guess what the rumors are saying now- that Red Dead 3 will be announced at Gamescom next month.

But that rumor makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, for multiple reasons- let’s start with the fact that this year’s Gamescom promises to be the most low profile one in years, with neither Microsoft, nor Sony, nor Nintendo having any press show this year. Let’s point to the fact that Take Two are more than just Rockstar, and have a whole lot of other games in development- including the upcoming Mafia 3, as well as a new WWE title and a new NBA game. Take Two’s attendance at the convention is likelier to be for one of those games, than for an unannounced Red Dead 3.

Look, Red Dead 3 is coming eventually, I don’t doubt that- but hoping for it to be announced at Gamescom, or The Game Awards, or any other big event, is folly, and it’s going to lead to disappointment. Chances are, Rockstar will announce it the same way they did GTA5– out of the blue, on their own site, on their own terms, with or without any industry wide event.

One of the things that most people have wanted from Rockstar at this point is a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, the open world hit western that Rockstar released to widespread acclaim in 2010. And while the question of a follow up to the game of some sort – a sequel, a remaster, a port, or even just being able to play it via the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility – has often been brought up, Rockstar themselves remain tight lipped on the matter, fueling speculation, but refusing to comment on it.

However, now an image has emerged that may be evidence of a new Red Dead game in the works at Rockstar- you can see this image above, and it seems to indicate either a Red Dead remaster, or actually, a new game (the setting seems to be completely new). The source of this image is via Reddit and the GTAForums, who noticed it, but the image itself actually comes from the portfolio of one Matt Clyne, who worked at Rockstar for over a decade, and may conceivably have been involved in a new Red Dead game.

So, is this the real deal? Is this just an internal project? Could we be seeing a new Red Dead game at E3 this year, or possibly announced by this year end? Will it actually come to PC for a change this time? Sound off in the comments below!

Red Dead Redemption developers, Rockstar San Diego, are looking to hire a new AI Programmer to work on a new open world game which will focus on “areas such as pathfinding, combat, and decision-making” with “a particular eye towards making it all look believable to the player.”

Rockstar San Diego has an opening for a qualified AI programmer who is ready to help us create the best open world experiences, and push the limits of Artifical Intelligence in areas such as pathfinding, combat, and decision-making, with a particular eye towards making it all look believable to the player.

It looks like they’re hard at work on Red Dead 3. This wouldn’t really be a surprise, considering just how super successful Red Dead Redemption was.
