Leaker Dusk Golem instead claims that some aspects are a "bit expanded", while other content has been "heavily remixed."

With Capcom allegedly planning to announce Resident Evil – Code: Veronica Remake this year (with a launch seemingly planned for the first half of 2027), details continue to emerge on its features. For instance, those disappointed by any content cut from the previous remakes should be happy, as leaker AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem claims that everything is intact.

That said, there are terms and conditions. “What I’ve heard is Resident Evil Code Veronica in general is just a bit expanded, nothing is cut, some stuff heavily remixed (I hear it’s the Remake with the most things changed or happening differently than you may remember, but every enemy, location, major event, is there and much even expanded).”

That change also encompasses Chris Redfield. If you’ll recall, he kind of just…appeared in the original game out of nowhere. Since this will mark his younger self’s first appearance in the RE Engine remakes, his role has been expanded. However, he won’t be as prominent in the finale with the remake.

“Chris’s stuff is going to end earlier than it did in the original game, him having his own final boss fight with Wesker (now as a boss fight rather than a cutscene) much earlier in the story, get severely injured, leaving Claire to take over for the last part and final Alexia boss stuff.” This is in line with earlier reports about the latter having a larger role and being treated as the main character.

If there was any trepidation about the remake, despite the insane run that the series has been on for the past several years, fans can apparently rest assured. Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo, who directed the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, are reportedly at the helm of Code: Veronica Remake.

In the meantime, we’ll likely see Resident Evil Requiem’s story DLC launching first, maybe even this year. It’s supposedly focused on Leon S. Kennedy, with Ada Wong potentially playing a role.

"I would like to see a Code Veronica get remade because that, to me, was a very challenging game," said Nick Apostolides.

With rumors surrounding a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica heating up, voice actor for Leon S. Kennedy, Nick Apostolides, has offered his own thoughts on the idea. In an interview with PCGamer, he supported a potential remake, especially thanks to the fact that it was a “very challenging game,” as well as the fact that its story is quite unique among the franchise.

“I would like to see a Code Veronica get remade because that, to me, was a very challenging game,” said Apostolides. “But the story of it was just so wild and weird, and I think if they did it in today’s RE Engine with today’s storytelling and grounded acting, I think that would be one hell of a game.”

Capcom potentially revisiting Code: Veronica is far from a new idea, and fans of the franchise have been asking for it since the release of 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake. However, Capcom has been focused on remaking the mainline entries for the time being, with the last entry getting the remake treatment being Resident Evil 4. Rumors have indicated that a Code: Veronica remake is in the works, with Capcom reportedly aiming for an early 2027 release.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica occupies a unique space in the franchise, since it actually manages to fit in quite a few important plot elements that get referenced many times in other titles. Many would go as far as to argue that Code: Veronica is more of a “real” Resident Evil 3 rather than 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis owing to the larger impact the former had on the overarching story of Resident Evil, while the latter largely revolves around protagonist Jill Valentine trying to escape from Raccoon City while being hunted down by the eponymous tyrant Nemesis.

The story of Code: Veronica revolves around the Redfield siblings Claire and Chris. The former’s investigations into the shady dealings of the Umbrella Corporation gets her kidnapped and taken to a remote prison complex on Rockfort Island. The latter learns of this, and decides to set off to rescue his sister. The title was originally released back in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast before eventually coming to PS2 in 2001, and Nintendo GameCube in 2003.

Code: Veronica is also well-known for being the first entry in the franchise to feature multiple protagonists in the same campaign. While previous titles had featured different heroes, it was offered as a choice when you start the campaign. In Code: Veronica, on the other hand, we get to explore Rockfort Island as both Chris and Claire, with inventory management and item sharing duties being split between the two. Interestingly, the most recent entry—Resident Evil Requiem—had a similar approach to its campaign with play time being split between series newcomer Grace Ashcroft and veteran Leon.

A report from earlier this month has indicated that Capcom will hold an internal meeting to discuss the future of the Resident Evil franchise in 2027. According to reliable insider Dusk Golem, Capcom is a data driven company, and wants to look at analytics for Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Requiem, and the rumored Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake to decide its next steps.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica Remake Ahead of Internal Schedule, Wesker Plays Bigger Part – Rumor

The H.C.F. is also reportedly a major plot point in the story and has additional scenes with their leader, per a known leaker.

Resident Evil Requiem is the next mainline title in the franchise from Capcom, with a firm release date and many more details to come (including a potential demo). However, the company still has other remakes in the works, specifically for Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero. AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, alleged that they would launch by 2027/2028, with no clear indication of which would come first.

However, in a new series of tweets, the leaker reported that the Code: Veronica remake is “ahead of its internal schedule,” making it far more likely to release first (despite the opposite apparently being true). Resident Evil Zero has allegedly seen “some form of development reboot late last year”, which contributed to this.

As for what fans can expect, series antagonist Albert Wesker seemingly plays a “much bigger” part. Furthermore, his combat unit, the H.C.F., is allegedly a “main plot point” in the remake, from additional scenes with Wesker to “a bigger role in the story.”

Of course, Capcom has said nothing about a remake, so the wait continues for official information. In the meantime, Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27th, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Check out the latest gameplay and all the details from Gamescom here.
