The Resident Evil HD remaster, which essentially touches up the exceptional remake of the first Resident Evil game on the Gamecube, may have been announced a while back, but we haven’t actually gotten to see a whole lot of it. Well, that’s a lie, we got a boatload of screenshots, but for a video game, seeing it in motion is always much, much better than just seeing screens, right?

Well, we got the first footage of the game at Sony’s pre-TGS show yesterday, and here it is for you to see. Thankfully, the original game in this case (i.e. the remake) was just such a good looking game to begin with (aided, I suspect, by the strength of the art style) that the touch ups work wonderfully to make it look pretty modern.

It would never be mistaken for a native PS4 game, but, for example, it could look like an early generation Xbox 360 or PS3 game easily.

The Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube is a veritable modern classic- it was the last Resident Evil game of its kind, and it represented the old formula honed to a pitch perfection. Capcom’s decision to bring it back after nearly ten years was a good one, considering how much fans have been demanding the game, but that said, there have been some who have been apprehensive of how well (or not) age might have treated this game.

As it turns out, visually, at least, the game is as beautiful as it ever was. A lot of this probably has to do with the game’s strong artstyle, although I suppose a part of it also has to do with the fact that the game was on the Gamecube, and the Gamecube was just a strong console, with games that aged well.

But yes, Resident Evil HD Remaster looks great. Personally, I cannot wait to actually play this game and revisit this classic.

Capcom has revealed some new details regarding the visuals of Resident Evil Remastered, the HD version of the GameCube remake. While it was revealed that the Xbox One and PS4 versions would run at 1080p, all versions of the game will be running at 30 FPS. As for the PC version, Capcom said on its official website that, “The required specs will be announced later.”

We also now know that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will have a 720p resolution, which is interesting considering the power of the former over the latter. Other improvements include non-static 3D models, post-processing effects like Bloom filters, remastered audio with an increased sampling rate, 5.1 channel support and the option to either play the game in 16:9 aspect ratio or in the original 4:3 ratio.

Resident Evil Remastered will be out in early 2015 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC via digital distribution. What are your thoughts on the so-called visual upgrades? Let us know in the comments.
