'Competitors may take our ideas.'

Nintendo’s NX system may be one of the biggest enigmas in gaming history for a while- indeed, the last time I can remember there being so much hush hush secrecy around a gaming platform was the Wii, back when it was called Revolution, way before it was launched. A lot of people have speculated that one of the reasons that Nintendo does not talk about the NX just yet is that the system is not ready for the market, and by talking about it, they don’t want to divert all attention and consumer expectation to it, and cut off whatever life the Wii U may yet have in it.

And that certainly is one reason. As it turns out, there is more to it than that. Apparently, Nintendo is banking on something about the NX being a complete, total surprise, something to captivate the imagination, much like the Wii originally did- something that they can’t risk leaking or being copied.

“We can’t talk about the NX,” Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata said in yesterday’s investor call (translated by Cheesemeister3k). “If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won’t be surprised.”

He also confirmed that, at least as of right now, Nintendo plans on continuing to support the 3DS and Wii U for a while.

“This would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders,” Iwata added. “The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient.”

“We will continue making 3DS and Wii software while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.”

Of course, this doesn’t explain why the Wii U’s lineup is so barren right now.

Stay tuned to Nintendo for more news and coverage regarding the NX- whatever the hell it turns out to be.

Revolution has confirmed that the first episode of Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse will be releasing on December 4th and will be available for PC, Mac and Linux through Steam, GOG and its home site for £9.99. Both episodes are available for £14.99 with the second episode releasing in January to conclude the story.

Revolution CEO Charles Cecil stated that, “Whilst this is very much a classic Broken Sword game in terms of production values and sense of adventure, we’re really breaking new ground with The Serpent’s Curse.

“The success of our Kickstarter appeal has allowed us to be hugely ambitious – each episode is a full sized game in its own right. So we will be publishing two action-packed adventures in close succession. The response to those that have seen the game so far has been hugely positive – some suggesting that this is the best Broken Sword yet.”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse will also release on PS Vita, iOS and Android. Stay tuned for more details on when these versions will be available.

The top 5 positions for the previous month show Bethesda and Treyarch in the lead.

Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, February 2013’s PlayStation Network figures showed Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dominated the top PlayStation 3 DLC charts. The rankings in question see Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Revolution in first place followed by Skyrim Dragonborn.

The next three spots were taken by the Black Ops 2 Season Pass, Skyrim Hearthfire and then Dawnguard. The conditions for these sales aren’t hard to guess: Black Ops Revolution was delayed for the PS3 and released alongside pretty much all the other DLC packs this past February.

Couple that with discounts on the Skyrim’s DLC, which also saw crucial packs being delayed, and also that both games are fairly hot properties, and voila. Making it rain on the PlayStation 3.

In fact, Black Ops 2 ranks number 4 on the Top 20 PS3 and PSN Games list, with thatgamecompany’s Journey holding steady. Nobody ever said minting money was easy.

While the latest DLC pack for Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, “Revolution”, is now available for PS3, the developer has clarified some details regarding how players should go about obtaining it.

Season Pass DLC players will of course get the game for free, but they need to download it from the in-game store rather than from the PlayStation Store. As Treyarch tweeted:

If you are a Season Pass holder, be sure to use the in-game Store to download &the not PSN Store. You’ll see it listed as free. ^djv

— Treyarch Studios (@Treyarch) February 28, 2013

Meanwhile, Game Design Director David Vonderhaar tweeted that Treyarch is working on an update to unlock the Revolution playlist category for PS3 gamers.

We are posting a PS3 update right now to unlock the Revolution playlist category for PS3 owners if you just want to play the new maps. +

— David Vonderhaar (@DavidVonderhaar) February 28, 2013

It just wouldn’t be Call of Duty on the PlayStation 3 without some hiccups would it? Regardless, the DLC is now available for $14.99 to non-Season Pass holders.

With new maps, new weapons, a new Zombies map and a brand new Zombies Mode that lets you play as the shuffling killers themselves, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Revolution is now available for all three platforms – PS3, PC and Xbox 360.

Can we expect info on the DLC's release for PS3/PC soon?

Though Xbox 360 fans are currently enjoying the new Revolution DLC for Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – which adds new multiplayer apps, a new Zombie map and a brand new Zombies mode that lets you play as an Infected hunting humans – PS3 players have been a little less…lucky.

That’s because the DLC is yet to release for the PS3 and PC versions. So just when can the Revolution DLC be expected?

Treyarch took to Twitter, and stated: “PS3 and PC #BlackOps2 players, we hear you loud and clear. Stay tuned next week for news on #BO2Revolution.”

Such a turn of events is nothing new – Activison, Call of Duty’s publisher, and Microsoft have had long-running timed exclusive deals for DLC. It also doesn’t help that the Xbox 360 seems to be the favoured lead console for development, as numerous problems have arisen with the PS3 and PC versions of the franchise compared to the Xbox 360 version.

Hopefully next week the news will be nothing but good for PS3/PC fans.

This time it is an official description.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC was leaked earlier, and we have one more leak, this time courtesy of Amazon. We earlier reported the DLC description thanks to a poster on a Call of Duty forum, but this can now be treated as an official description because it was on Amazon.

The map pack will cost 1200 MSP and will be released on Xbox 360 first, then followed by PS3 and PC. It will be released on January 29th and Seasons Pass holders will get it for free.

Here are the details thanks to a tipster on OXM.

Hydro – This large map allows you to use the dam and water to your advantage to block paths and stop enemies.

Downhill – A medium-sized map based in the French Alps complete with snow, chair lifts, and a strategically placed lodge.

Grind – Set within the locale of the Venice, California boardwalk, this small skate park map is sure to deliver fast and frenetic Call of Duty action.

Mirage – This Gobi Desert multiplayer map utilizes sand dunes to provide different levels of elevation and a sanctuary in the center as a natural chokepoint.

Zombies – Die Rise – The Zombie apocalypse has invaded China, turning down town into a dilapidated and dangerous MC Escher painting.

Peacekeeper SMG – This impressive sub-machine gun fills the open weapon slot in your load-out with power

Here’s the synopsis of the map posted on the Call of Duty forums.

In Die Rise, you start of on a hill in the middle of a field surrounded by fog. There is a tree on the hill with Quick Revive right in front of it, and there are two pickets around the base of the hill, one with the M14 and the other with the Olympia. Zombies will come out of the fog and attack you. You can step foot into the fog, but you will be attacked by Denizens.

This hill is basically the central hub of the map, all of the areas are located around it. The bus in this map has been replaced with a wagon ride, once again piloted by T.E.D.D. except this time wearing a farmer’s outfit. The wagon will come by the hill at round 5 (I think) and if you get onboard he will take you to one of the 4 areas that make up the map.

The wagon travels along dirt trails that run through the field. (the field is very big by the way and I’ve already found some secrets in it, such as a crashed fighter jet)

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Andy Katkin had a lot to say at GamesCom, he called FIFA 12 a revolution, and had a lot more to say.

“2012 is a very special year for FIFA 12 and every month we’ve been telling you about something new, something innovative that is going to make FIFA 12 the best sports game in history … and today we’ve got more news.”

“Pro Player Intelligence system in FIFA 12 delivers the next level of AI letting your players react even more authentically.”

“With the new Online Friendlies mode, connecting with your friends will be even easier.”

It was expected EA would hype up FIFA 12, especially when FIFA 11 shipped 15 million copies. Katkin had a lot more to say about Ultimate mode as well. “And finally, FIFA Ultimate Team will let you build, manage and compete with your dream. Big news: for the first time ever, FIFA Ultimate Team will ship with the FIFA 12 disc this year!”
