As boring as it can be to sit through EA’s golf titles during E3 conferences, there’s at least some good that comes out of technology seen in titles like Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour. During EA’s Investor Day, EA Studios executive VP Patrick Söderlund revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda would be using the same crowd technology Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour, allowing you to walk through large crowds of people. This can also be seen in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst though more to render a large amount of people at the street level.

CEO Andrew Wilson also stated that Mass Effect Andromeda will appeal to audiences beyond the core gamer demographic. “And then we have Mass Effect: a whole new Mass Effect story emerging, a fan favorite. As a category role playing games or RPGs continues to grow and break beyond what was the core gamer audience. We’ve seen other games in the category do this, and we believe that Mass Effect will do that.”

Mass Effect Andromeda is out in early 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One with a gameplay reveal planned for June 12th at E3 Play.

The power of EA’s golf games can’t be underestimated, as evidenced by Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour debuting at the top position in the UK according to the latest charts from Gfk Chart-Track.

Codemasters’ F1 2015 also continues to do very well spending its second week at second place with Batman: Arkham Knight dropping down to third place followed by LEGO Jurassic World. Grand Theft Auto 5 is still going strong at fifth place while Destiny surprisingly moved up several places in the sales charts. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in seventh followed by The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited which released last month for consoles.

Interestingly, Sony’s God of War 3: Remastered entered the sales charts at ninth place. Granted, it is a remaster of a 2010 game but we kind of expected slightly better results than that. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt rounded out the top 10 for this week and has recently received patch 1.07 for all platforms (with mixed results).

Unlike other previous entries in the PGA series, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will not be a annual franchise. This piece of information was confirmed by EA and what is more? The game will be set to receive free content updates after it’s released later this month.

Justin Patel, one of the designers confirmed in a post on the Operation Sports forums that”this is not a yearly title and we are very excited about what what we are going to be able to provide users of this game”. The game will ship with 8 course and 12 golfers, however Patel added that the game will receive free content updates after the game launches. At the time of posting, Patel did not revealed what that additional content will be but it’s safe to assume that it will be more courses and golfers.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour releases on Xbox One and PS4 on July 17th.
