Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was, of course, already playable on the current-gen platforms through backward compatibility, but is now natively available as well. On current-gen hardware, the game runs at 4K and 60 FPS. Riot Forge has three more games in its League of Legends spinoff line of releases due out this year. Action RPG The Mageseeker, developed by Digital Sun, is out this Spring; action platformer CONVERGENCE, developed by Double Stallion, launches this Summer; and adventure title Song of Nunu, developed by Tequila Works, is due out this Fall.

The Champions in question are Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Ahri, Pyke and Yasuo. Each has their own motivations and demons but must unite together to stop the black mist. Along with the Shadow Isles, players will also explore the port of Bilgewater with its smugglers and gangs. With Airship Syndicate onboard, the combat takes more than a few pages from Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

However, it also has a few interesting twists like a Speed Track and Power Track in combat. The former is useful for getting some actions off quickly (like healing) while the latter is slower but allows for building up more damage with attacks. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Previously, the developer spoke of the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic had on development and how “adjustments” had to be made. Developed alongside Airship Syndicate, the RPG features iconic champions like Miss Fortune, Ahri, Yasuo and more, teaming up to face a common foe. The combat looks fairly similar to Airship Syndicate’s own Battle Chasers: Nightwar, as seen in the last gameplay trailer.

Riot Forge and Airship Syndicate debuted gameplay footage for Ruined King: A League of Legends Story at The Game Awards 2020, showcasing the turn-based RPG mechanics at last. Interestingly, the combat and exploration resemble Battle Chasers: Nightwar, the developer’s last big RPG that released in 2017. Check it out for yourself below.

From the battle screen and formation of allies and foes to items like the Greater Tome of Knowledge and field abilities, a number of mechanics seem directly lifted from Battle Chasers. This isn’t a terrible thing, per say, especially since League of Legends’ visual style fits the action well. It’s just a little odd to see.

Then again, it’s possible that this is still early footage. Originally slated to release in early 2021, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story was delayed to sometime next year to allow for more development time. Perhaps we’ll see more changes and LoL-esque elements introduced over the next few months. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Airship Syndicate’s Ruined King: A League of Legends Story received some new details last month along with an “early 2021” release window. However, more time is required for development with publisher Riot Forge announcing a delay. The RPG is now simply slated for 2021, which means it could launch at any time next year.

On Twitter, Riot Forge spoke about the “number of challenges for all of us that have been outside of our control,” likely referencing this year’s COVID-19 pandemic. In light of that, the company has made some “adjustments” for its timelines and will release Ruined King sometime next year. Of course, expect more information, gameplay footage and an official announcement leading up to its new release date.

Riot Games have announced League of Legends’ first ever single player outing- Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a turn based RPG being developed by Airship Syndicate (who also developed last year’s Darksiders: Genesis). Comic book artist Joe Madureira will be in charge of the game’s art design.

Set in two regions that League fans will be familiar with – Runeterra an the Shadow Isles – Ruined King will see characters and heroes from across the series coming together as they face off against a new, common enemy that threatens their existence. Champions such as Ahri, Miss Fortune, Pyke, Braum, Yasuo, and Illaoi will be making a return, among others. The announcement trailer doesn’t show any actual gameplay footage, but sets up the narrative pretty well- take a look below.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story will release in early 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Nintendo Switch, and will be followed soon afterward by releases on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Free next-gen upgrades will be supported.
