Saints Row 2, Volition’s gloriously over the top open world action game where their franchise truly began to come into its own (and arguably the best blend of grounded and ridiculous) is now playable on a current generation system, thanks to Xbox One’s backward compatibility feature. The game is the latest one to be whitelisted for Xbox One’s feature.

As with all backward compatible games, all you have to do is put in your disc or download your digital copy, and you can play the game no problem. If you don’t own it already, you should be able to buy it on the Xbox Store instead.

Xbox One’s backward compatibility feature continues to grow, with hundreds of Xbox 360 games playable on the console already, and over a dozen original Xbox games as well. With Saints Row 3 already compatible on Xbox One, this means that all the good games in the series are now playable on Microsoft’s current console.

THQ may not be in trouble anymore if this press release from them is to be believed. They have advised investors to look out for positive news when their financial reports hit on May 15th.

They have exceeded earnings expectations due to Saints Row 3 for Q4. The digital version of the game was successful and the game has shipped 4 million units so far according to THQ.

“The company expects to utilise a substantial portion of its cash and cash equivalents, as well as its credit facility [that it didn’t dip into in financial Q4], as it launches its slate for the 2013 fiscal year, beginning with Darksiders 2,” they wrote.

Darksiders 2 could be delayed and their CEO Danny Bilson has said that they won’t hesitate to delay it if they feel the game needs polish. The game will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC this year.

THQ CEO, Brian Farell said that they aren’t scared of the recent GTA V that was announced. They make Saints Row, which is like the older GTA games. The current GTA games have a more realistic tone. He said during a recent investor conference that they aren’t worried about GTA V because their game offers a different experience.

“I went online like everyone to see the GTA trailer,” he said. This comment made me laugh out loud.

“As you point out, it’s a high quality trailer and I think it’s going to be another fantastic game in the GTA series.

“That said, it also shows the completely different positioning of the two games. GTA is still serious and character driven – a very different experience. Saints Row – if you saw our video today – it shows you all the crazy stuff in the game.

“It’s a totally different positioning,” he continued, “and if you read the forums it’s like ‘hey, I love GTA, and I love this game because it’s a very different game that knows what it is and is very entertaining.

A whole new dimension has just been added to sandbox gaming, literally, as a cyber-world will now be a part of Saints Row: The Third. This trailer is very NSFW but has to be seen to be believed.

Saints Row The Third is shaping up to be an exciting entry in to the open world franchise. The game is looking like it will be more fun and action filled than any of the games before.

Fans have been confused as to how the narrative aspect of Saints Row The Third will branch out and how many endings the game will have.

In an interesting interview with NowGamer, Greg Donovan, producer of Saint’s Row at Volition has revealed more information about the multiple endings the game will have and how your actions through the course of the game will affect them.

Well, there are two major endings, but the important thing to clarify is that you get many major choices throughout the game. You get a major choice at the end of each act, and there are three acts.

In those acts you have a number of more minor choices and the final one does actually affect the outcome of the game. There are some very interesting choices in there, and I think people will really have to think about the paths that they choose.

We’re excited about this feature, and to give you an example: Early on the game you have the opportunity to decide to blow up a building, or leave it.

You get a certain reward based on whatever your choice is. So if you keep it, you can use it as a crib and go back there later. It’s beneficial as it’s in a well-situated area of the city.

This is where you can go to access your weapons cache, change your outfit and all of that. If you choose to blow it up, you get a different reward, which is more monetary income per day.

So it’s like, “Do I want the ease of having a crib in the middle of the city, or do I want to get money quicker so I can buy upgradeable weapons faster?” So we feel these are compelling choices that will make players think about what they choose.

Saints Row The Third will releases on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and On Live this November.
