Watch Dogs Legion on PS4 and PS5 is also worth trying out, as are Dishonored 2 and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, even if they’re PS4-only. Marvelous’s Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin on PS4 is also a good addition, providing farming and side-scrolling hack-and-slash action. Other PS4 farming titles include Rune Factory 4 Special and Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.

The latter allows downloading the game and its Expansion Pass Set or streaming the base experience. Fans of Tomb Raider can experience the entire modern trilogy with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration and Shadow of the Tomb Raider playable on PS4.

Those who want some horror can check out The Evil Within 2 on PS4 and the action RPG Thymesia on PS5. There’s also Bus Simulator 21: Next Stop on PS4 and PS5, which is its own horror when things go wrong. Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Rain World, and Conan Exiles round out the PS4 offerings, while Lake and Soundfall are playable on PS4 and PS5. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin came out at the tail end of 2020 and was a unique game. A blend of side scrolling action as a Princess is tasked with battling demons, and then a farming simulator where you must grow rice in a small paddy. It doesn’t sound like something that would mix well on paper, but it seems to have really struck a chord.

In the latest quarterly earnings from Marvelous Entertainment, they revealed that the game had shipped out over 850,000 copies, a combination of digital sales and physical shipments. It’s quite a strong number for a game of this size. Its success also was noted as the reason for the company’s increased full-year sales and increased forecast for the next fiscal year alongside strong pre-orders of the upcoming Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town (thanks to Twinfinite for translations).

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is available now on PlayStation 4, Switch and PC. Despite the game’s success, it’s been stated there are no plans for DLC, but the developer is open to making a sequel.

Edelweiss’ Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin didn’t have a ton of hype leading into its release but still sold over 500,000 within 15 days of its release. Despite this, the developer confirmed to Weekly Famitsu (translations by Gematsu) that it has no plans for DLC. A sequel isn’t out of the question though.

As Edelweiss’ Koichi told the publication, “There aren’t any plans for downloadable content, but we’d like to do a sequel if the opportunity arises.” Nal further added that, “While we don’t have any concrete plans for a sequel, I have nothing but gratitude for the fans. When the timing is right, I hope we can live up to their expectations.”

The duo even provided a response to feedback on certain gameplay aspects, like rice-planting, being too hard. “Despite requests from staff, we were resolute in not implementing functionality to be able to plant the rice in an orderly manner. We didn’t want it to be a process that you could finish with the push of a button.”

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin released for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 10th 2020 in North America. It follows the harvest goddess Princess Sakuna banished to the Isle of Demons to defeat its many beasts. Combat takes place from 2.5D perspective with some hack and sash mechanics but Sakuna will also be busy farming. By planting, growing and consuming rice, she’ll gain more upgrades and power.

Where the franchise goes from here remains to be seen but a sequel wouldn’t be unwelcome. Stay tuned for any details in the coming days.
