God of War director Cory Barlog has been maintaining that there is one secret within the game that fans have not yet discovered ever since his interview with GamingBolt some months ago. This continued all the way through to San Diego Comic Con last week, where, speaking during a panel, Sony Santa Monica showed off an early comic strip they had developed as a concept to flesh out the character of Atreus, Kratos’ son.

Following this, a tweet from Senior Concept artist Joe Kennedy stated that the final secret in the game is related to this comic strip, titled “The Hunt”. Players have already known for some time that it is hidden around Kratos’ home, which is right where you begin your journey with Kratos and Atreus. Will players now be able to find what it is, having being given this direction? And whatever the secret is, will it be worth the wait and the hype surrounding it?

Many will say it’s about the whole process of unearthing it more than whatever it turns out to be. I would agree with them. God of War is available now, exclusively on PS4.

Is it time for Darkstalkers: Resurrection: Resurrection?

Capcom has a wealth of great and beloved IP that they are kind of just sitting on and doing nothing with. Realistically, if one were to be honest, one would realize that Capcom’s wealth of franchises and properties is almost unmatched in the gaming industry, second only to Nintendo’s- that’s the vaunted company the publisher finds itself in.

One of these IPs is Darkstalkers, a cult hit fan favorite 2D fighting game series that has lain dormant for many years. A segment of highly vocal fans has called for the series to be revived in recent years, and Capcom executives themselves have mentioned it and brought it up a number of times. The most recent of which was at San Diego Comic Con 2018, where, Yoshinori Ono, the man behind Street Fighter 4 and 5, dropped a hint at what his next game after SF5 might be, outright namedropping Darkstalkers.

Ono is known for trolling his fans, so it’s important to not take this as confirmation of any sort- at least, not until Capcom officially and formally announces the game, at any rate.

So, Ono seemed to hint at his ‘next game’ at the SF panel before he left. Even name dropped Darkstalkers and referenced the announcement 6 years ago. Felt very unscripted.

Treyarch debuts the opening cinematic for the third Zombies map in Black Ops 4.

Prior to San Diego Comic-Con, Treyarch dropped a trailer for the new Chaos storyline in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Zombies mode. The story encompasses Voyage of Despair and IX as four motley adventurers come across a relic with mysterious power. Subsequently they end up traveling back in time to ancient Rome and encountering zombie tigers.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. During the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies panel at SDCC, Treyarch released a trailer for the third map, called Blood of the Dead. It showcases the opening cinematic and sees our heroes Richtofen, Takeo, Dempsey and Nikolai heading into Alcatraz. This map is actually a remake of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Mob of the Dead. What is Primis doing here? We’ll have to wait till Black Ops 4 is out to find out.

A fourth Zombies map will be available to those who purchase any of the special editions or the Black Ops Pass. “Classified” sees the original version of Primis aka Ultimis entering a remake of the Black Ops map “Five”. That’s a whole lot of Zombies action.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out on October 12th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Undead threats, including zombie tigers, outline "Voyage of the Dead" and "IX".

Yesterday, Treyarch dropped a spicy tweet about Chaos awaiting. We thought this was to hype up the appearance of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, especially since a special panel will be held on July 19th, 1 PM PDT. While that’s still the case, a new trailer has dropped that showcases exactly how the Chaos storyline is tied together. Check it out below.

The story starts with “Voyage of the Dead” wherein Scarlett Rhodes has teamed up with Shaw, Diego and Bruno to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance. It’s not long before an ancient relic is uncovered on board the ship, bringing the undead out to play. The team will need to fight against the hordes but using the relic transports them back in time to ancient Rome.

This is where “IX” takes place as the squad must battle against undead tigers and other gladiatorial threats. More details are still wanting but we’re still pretty hyped about the undead shenanigans that are underfoot. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out on October 12th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Nintendo has announced the lineup of games it will be bringing to San Diego Comic Con later this week- meaning games that will be playable at Nintendo’s booth by all fans attending the event. And the big, kingpin game that they will be bringing to the show is none other than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which might end up creating a mini stampede around their booth.

Other games Nintendo will be showing off will include Overcooked 2, FIFA 19, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. A notable omission here, sadly, is Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! which undoubtedly a lot of fans would have wanted to play for themselves for their own personal reassurance, too. That said, I suppose that one comes down more to The Pokemon Company than Nintendo.

If you are going to SDCC, the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will be in the San Diego ballroom of the Marriott Marquis & Marina. You can go there anytime from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM on July 19-21 and from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM on July 22. Meanwhile, if you’re disappointed about Pokemon not showing up at the end, perhaps our hands-on impressions might do something to placate you. We quite liked what we saw of the game.

Studio preferred Sahr Ngaujah's rendition of the character.

Blizzard Entertainment was out in full force during the San Diego Comic Con with its first ever official cosplay of Overwatch’s next big hero Doomfist. The character is currently on the Public Test Realm server for PC but will arrive on July 27th for all platforms to get a hold of. And while the developer hired actor Sahr Ngaujah to voice the hero, several fans were still shouting for Terry Crews at the Q&A panel dedicated to Doomfist’s design.

So why didn’t Crews nab the role of Doomfist? As it turns out, Blizzard just liked Ngaujah better. Overwatch lead writer Michael Chu explained to GameSpot that, “We love Terry. Terry’s awesome. He came and visited us. We had a great time. But when we were looking for Doomfist, we were looking for something very specific given his role in the game and everything.

“When we were early in the audition process, we heard Sahr, who’s the actor who plays Doomfist, and he just blew us away immediately. Once we heard his voice, it was like, ‘Holy crap. That’s Doomfist.'” Sahr’s ability to bring “all these different aspects of the character to life” was particularly praised.

As the above indicates, Blizzard isn’t inherently opposed to working with Crews. He could potentially have another role in the game sometime in the far future. For now though, Doomfist isn’t it and that’s okay.

Along with Doomfist, Blizzard will also bring Loot Box changes, the revamped Highlight system and several changes for heroes like McCree and Reinhardt to Overwatch on July 27th.

Despite the recent leak of the same, Sledgehammer Games officially revealed the gameplay trailer of Call of Duty: WWII’s Nazi Zombies campaign. It’s appropriately gruesome and brings Call of Duty back to a time when zombies were something to fear. Check it out below.

The Nazi Zombies campaign takes place in Mittelburg, Germany within a Bavarian village. Your objective is to recover various art pieces stolen by the Axis during World War II. Unfortunately, zombies lurk and soon, players will be embroiled in a plot that combines horrifying new creations with little chance for escape.

If that weren’t enough, the trailer also announced that the private beta would start on August 28th for PS4. Those who pre-order gain access and more information will be provided for the beta on other platforms. Though not confirmed, it’s likely that the beta will go open for a day or two so everyone has a chance to play.

Call of Duty: WWII is out on November 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Check out the video that plays during a KojiPro game start-up.

Leave it to Hideo Kojima to tease fans with something special over the weekend only to subvert expectations. The Metal Gear Solid creator teased some Death Stranding information for San Diego Comic Con and released a video of the Kojima Productions logo intro that will be featured at the start of each of its games.

Not exactly earth-shattering news as far as Death Stranding is concerned but Kojima did note that the mascot in the video, Ludens, is actually modeled after him and not Norman Reedus. He further reiterated that Ludens has nothing to do with Death Stranding and that different figures and toys will be available for fans to purchase soon.

Death Stranding is in development for PS4 and PC. A concept video of sorts was seen at Sony’s E3 2016 presser but Kojima noted that the team was still looking for an engine to develop the game on. Contrary to expectations, Death Stranding will be an action game unlike any we’ve seen before. Stay tuned for more details – this is one of those long-term projects.

Spencer sounds off on the big news of the day.

The big news today was that against all odds, Nintendo will be launching a new console this Holiday season after all- it just won’t be the NX. Instead, they will be launching the NES Classic Mini, a re-release of their first console, and the one tat revolutionized the gaming industry, bundling it with 30 games, all for a price point of $60.

Speaking on Twitter, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, confirmed that he will definitely buy the NES Mini, noting a necessity to keep older games playable. He also mentioned that an Xbox app on Mac could happen, but right now it is just a question of development priorities. How that would work, especially since the Xbox app is an integral component of the Xbox Anywhere ecosystem, is anybody’s guess (and really just a hypothetical question at this point).

Finally, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg also confirmed that Xbox has plans for San Diego Comic Can this year, that they will be sharing soon. I don’t think one can expect any new announcements from Xbox at Comic Con, but at the very least, there should be some upcoming Xbox games playable, if nothing else.

Absolutely. Keeping our artform's classics playable is important for gaming imo. Retro HW is a cool way to do this.

To be hosted by Kinda Funny Games' Greg Miller.

Activision and Infinity Ward will be bringing the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to the upcoming San Diego Comic Con this year, where the game will have a panel hosted by Kinda Funny Games’ Greg Miller, covering the story of the game’s campaign.

The 60-minute panel will debut never-before-seen footage from the game’s all-new story, and delve into the creative process of crafting the campaign. Members of the studio and cast will share new details and provide a glimpse into the ‘making-of’ the campaign, which takes players into definitive science fiction territory, with its space setting, for the very first time in franchise history.

The panel will take place on Thursday, 21st July at 1:00pm (9pm BST) in room 6BCF. The panelists include:

Taylor Kurosaki, Narrative Director at Infinity Ward

Jeff Negus, Director of Photography at Infinity Ward

Brian Bloom (The A-Team, Once Upon a Time inAmerica)

Jamie Gray Hyder (True Blood, Graceland)

David Harewood (Supergirl, Blood Diamond)

Jeffrey Nordling (Sully, Big Little Lies)

Plus everyone who attends the panel will also get a limited edition, hand-numbered Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare lithograph poster with special finishing treatments. The poster was created in partnership with Mondo and drawn by artist Matt Taylor. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is due out on November 4 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
