Players will need to survive a night against Roxy, Chica, and Monty along with other threats, but receive help from Freddy Fazbear himself.

Steel Wool Studios’ Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach has received a new gameplay trailer, providing an extensive look at the gameplay and animatronics appearing in the survival horror title. It also received a release date of December 16th. Check it out below.

In a PlayStation Blog post, executive producer Ray McCaffrey offered some more details on the story. As Gregory, a boy trapped overnight in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex, you need to survive and find a way out. Roxy, Chica and Monty will be hunting you but there are also S.T.A.F.F. bots that can sound the alarm if they see you. Interestingly, along with the animatronics “evolving” as the night progresses, Freddy Fazbear is an ally.

Along with guiding the player and providing warnings, Gregory can also hop inside his body to hide and move around without being detected. Of course, Freddy has limited power which must be recharged at different stations. Weapons like the Faz Cam for stunning the animatronics and Fazblaster, which has unlimited ammo but requires headshots, are also provided.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach will release for PS4 and PS5. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Clickteam has released Five Nights at Freddy’s mashup game Ultimate Custom Night for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game costs $7.99, and while a Switch version is coming to Europe, it will not be available until May 5th. Ultimate Custom Night was originally released on PC in June of 2018.

The game features 50 selectable animatronics spanning seven Five Nights at Freddy’s games. Players can mix and match whatever characters they’d like and tweak their difficulty from level zero to level twenty. They will also need to to manage two side doors, two vents, as well as two air hoses, all of which lead to the player’s office.

The game also includes sixteen themed challenges, voice acting from returning favorites and new arrivals, and unlockable office skins and cutscenes. While it has taken a while for the game to come to consoles, he sheer amount of content on offer makes it seem like it will be more than worth the wait. You can watch the console launch trailer below.

Free beat 'em up Security Breach: Fury's Rage is available now for PC.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach has been making sporadic appearances since its announcement last year for PlayStation consoles and PC. Its gameplay was revealed at Sony’s February State of Play with a 2021 release window attached. Series creator Scott Cawthon has now confirmed that it will be out in late 2021 for PC, PS4 and PS5.

In a recent Reddit post, Cawthon said that the title was originally slated to release by 2020 end. “But as we kept working on it and kept adding to it, it just kept getting bigger and bigger and needed more time to finish. And now, again, I’ve made the decision to put more time and money into it to make sure it’s finished properly, and that means a late 2021 release instead of an early 2021 release like I had originally wanted. It will be worth it!”

Cawthon also announced that Security Breach: Fury’s Rage is now available for PC players as apology for the delay. A side-scrolling beat ’em up, it’s free on Game Jolt.

As for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, it’s certainly a larger scale affair than previous titles. Set in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizza Plex, which is three stories tall, players will have more freedom of movement than before as they evade the killer animatronics. Unlike previous titles which Cawthon developed alone, Steel Wool Studios of Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted fame are also involved. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Here's what to expect from the cult classic horror series.

Few franchises have survived throughout the years quite like Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s. The survival horror series saw its first title release in 2014 and featured fairly rudimentary gameplay due to Cawthon working on it alone. Nevertheless, with some genuinely interesting lore, unsettling character designs and terrifying jump-scares, Five Nights at Freddy’s would become incredibly popular. That’s to say nothing of the sheer volume of Let’s Play videos, walkthroughs and lore videos dedicated to it. Numerous sequels, spin-offs, books and imitators have been released since then. There’s even a film that’s in the works.

Fast forward to the present and Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Core Collection is now available for Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. With Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach releasing early this year for PS4, PS5 and PC (other platforms get it three months later), is it worth jumping into this compilation? Let’s take a look at 5 things you should know beforehand.

Five Games in One

The Core Collection includes Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 to 4 along with Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location. The “core” part refers to this being the main storyline for the franchise – you’ll be introduced to the world of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and experience the nightmarish going-on of its animatronics. Though how it ties into the previous games is still to be determined, Security Breach seems to be set in the present day so if you want to know how exactly the franchise got to this point, The Core Collection is a good place to start.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Five Nights at Freddy’s boils down like this – you’re trapped in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza at night with killer animatronics walking around. Due to their programming, they’ll attempt to stuff any human – in this case, the player – into a costume, thus killing them. In Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 to 3, you play as a security guard who has the benefit of different cameras that can be used to surveil the animatronics. If they happen to get to you, one way or another, you die. The initial nights start off slow with usually one or two animatronics wandering around but later on, they’ll become more numerous and aggressive.

As the name implies, you need to survive for five nights in total. There’s often a sixth or Custom Night in each game which offers more challenges and additional story details (even being necessary for the true ending in some cases). From the second game onwards, various 8-bit mini-games will crop up to provide more background on what’s going on.

Even among the first three games, there are key differences in the gameplay. Five Nights at Freddy’s relies on power for its doors – once the power runs out, the doors will open and cameras will become unavailable (along with the lights going out, which is literally bad news bears). Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 offers unlimited power but does away with that whole locking doors nonsense. A Freddy Fazbear mask is instead provided to help “trick” certain animatronics to spare you. Naturally, it doesn’t work on everyone so you’ll need to rely on the flashlight as well (which has limited power, by the way).

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 mixes things up slightly, introducing two different systems for managing cameras, one looking at the different rooms and corridors while the other examines the vents. Three operating systems – one for cameras, another for audio to lure an animatronic away and ventilation – must also be managed and rebooted at different times. Fail to reboot them and you risk passing out or hallucinating, becoming vulnerable to an attack. Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 does away with the security office entirely and is set in a bedroom. However, it still relies on keeping various nightmares away by locking the door or checking the closet and bed.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location is more of an exploration title. You’re no longer confined to a single office or location and must move between rooms to complete different objectives. And as usual, you must prevent the animatronics from finding and killing you. A variety of animatronics star in the series but the one constant is Freddy Fazbear, the mascot who serves as the face of Fazbear Entertainment. Don’t worry though – as time goes on, various other horrors from a marionette to smaller animatronics will torment you throughout.

Story

In terms of gameplay depth and overall length, it’s fairly easy to breeze through all five games within several hours. The main appeal of the franchise is its story and lore. Without going too heavily into spoilers, the series is about a family restaurant chain called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The first game reveals a brutal incident called “The Bite of ’87” that took place in a restaurant during the day – this involved an animatronic clamping down on a patron’s head, crushing it and killing them. Another incident that occurred in the same location saw someone donning an animatronic’s costume and committing five murders – their bodies were subsequently stuffed into the other animatronics. The second and fourth games provide more insight into the events leading up to The Bite of ’87.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 takes 30 years after the first game in a horror attraction called Fazbear’s Fright cobbled together from the various restaurants. How the animatronics came to life and what’s ultimately driving them is revealed. Sister Location is implied to take place either parallel to the third game or slightly before it, focusing on a new location that has many of the old animatronics in play (along with several new ones).

All in all, The Core Collection offers a decently rounded view of the story though there are still numerous unanswered questions (especially with regards to the fourth game). There isn’t much gore but fairly disturbing incidents permeate the series so be warned.

Achievements and Trophies

When released in standalone format on consoles, each title had ten Achievements/Trophies to earn on Xbox One and PS4 respectively. These were fairly straightforward, from completing the different nights to dying. The Core Collection is billed as having a “new” Achievement and Trophy system though whether new ones were added or this works differently from the current batch is still unknown.

Optional Cheats

In Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, completing the sixth night aka Nightmare unlocks the ability to use cheats. These can increase the aggressiveness of animatronics, enable a radar or progress the nights faster. The Core Collection reportedly has cheats that provide “new reasons to revisit Fazbear Entertainment.” This implies that there are cheats for all five games, which is good news for those who want to tone the difficulty down just to experience the story. More details are needed though so don’t go in expecting each and every game to have comprehensive new options available.

Nvidia is hosting a special broadcast event today called GeForce RTX: Game On. The GPU manufacturer will unveil “the latest innovations in gaming and graphics.” Interestingly enough, Steel Wool Studios revealed that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach would be revealed during the event.

This will be the first big update on the game since it was announced for PS4, PS5 and PC (with other platforms receiving it months later). The story sees Fazbear Entertainment unveiling the new Fazbear’s Mega Pizza Plex, a three story tall pizzeria with the “latest in animatronic technology.” If you’ve played any of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, you’ll know that means trouble.

With the event being focused on GeForce RTX, it’s likely that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach will reveal its own implementation of ray-traced reflections and shadows. We may finally get a glimpse at the actual gameplay as well as a release date, especially since it’s touted to release in early 2021. Stay tuned for more details – the GeForce RTX: Game On broadcast takes place at 9 AM PST.

"I just don't want to work on this," says Scott Cawthon.

Not that anyone besides rabid Five Nights at Freddy’s fans would’ve known but Five Nights at Freddy’s 6 was in development. The key word is “was” – creator Scott Cawthon has announced that the sixth iteration in the franchise has been cancelled.

In a new Steam community post, Cawthon said, “After forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something – I just don’t want to work on this.

“With each game’s release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.”

Cawthon isn’t done with the series just yet but whatever his next project is, it will “be something for fun, and something for the fans.”

“Remember Foxy Fighters from Update 2? I loved working on that game. It was a lot of fun, and it took a lot of the pressure off me knowing that it was just for the fans of the games. That’s the kind of project that I’d like to work on again.”

In the meantime, Five Nights at Freddy’s VR will still be happening along with the film and a new book. What are your thoughts on part 6 being cancelled though? Let us know below.

Halloween release still up in the air.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location, the next big sequel in the horror series, will be releasing in October according to its listing on Steam.

A specific date isn’t mentioned – only “October 2016” – but it would be odd if Sister Location didn’t receive on the spookiest day of the month, namely Halloween (which also falls on a Monday so it’s doubly scare for some of us). Creator Scott Cawthon has a habit of releasing the games early though so we’ll find out what the case is in a few months.

Taking place in a new location, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location will feature new animatronic creatures out for your blood. That also means a whole new set of mysteries as we apparently explore the store franchise being present in other locations and haunting other groups of kids.

What are your thoughts on Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location being out in October for Steam? Let us know in the comments below.

One thing’s for sure about Five Nights at Freddy’s – nothing can quite keep the franchise down, even if it has to travel to an underground bunker to find some new scares. Scott Cawthon is following up with an unlikely sequel of sorts in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location which seemingly adds an animatronic ballerina and clown to the mix. Scared yet? A little? Check it out below.

Not much is known about the game other than the fact that it concerns another location infested with demonic animatronic beings. The trailer indicates a release date of Fall though Cawthon’s reputation of releasing the games could affect which month it actually arrives. Hopefully enough time has been put into the release unlike Five Nights at Freddy’s World, an RPG based on the franchise which had its fair share of problems.

What are your thoughts on Sister Location? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Console versions will be remakes and not straight ports.

Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise isn’t just getting another release with the teased “Sister Location” – it’s also heading to consoles.

The creator answered fans on Steam about a console version and revealed that, “Actually, yes! It will happen. I’m talking with a few companies who are interested in doing console remakes of the original games.”

The limitations of the Clickteam engine powering the games means that he won’t be working on the console version alone. Third party studios have been approached for the task and Cawthon has affirmed that the console titles “will not be ported, they will be remade”.

Will that be enough to stem criticism that the franchise is beyond tired at this point? Maybe not but it’s something for console players to look forward if they’re never played a Five Night’s at Freddy’s game before. What are your thoughts on console remakes of the original games? Let us know in the comments below.

Wait, what?

Scott Cawthon planned to release Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 for Steam on October 31st and intended it to be the final game in the series. But in an odd twist, not only did Cawthon pre-pone the launch to August 8th, he subsequently announced in a Steam Community post that it was out now. Like, right now. You can purchase it on Steam for $8.

Cawthon’s reasoning for the sudden release? “Ok, so as many of you already know, I’m bad with release dates. The game is finished.” Fair enough. Interestingly, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 will be now receiving an expansion on Halloween. Surely this will finally end the game for real, right guys?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 is the first game in the series not to be set at the restaurant of the same name. Instead, you’ll play a child who is haunted by the mechanical animals in his very home with nothing but a flashlight by his side. The rule is the same as before though – survive until 6 AM by any means necessary.

Will you be picking up Five Nights at Freddy’s 4? Let us know in the comments.
