Is your Minecraft obsession getting the better of you? Do you need another Mojang title to occupy your time and patience? Then you’ll be happy to know that Scrolls, its tactical collectible card game, will be available on December 11th. It will retail for $5 and cost Android, PC and MC now that it’s out of the beta testing stage.

Though Scrolls will allow players to make purchases for different items but there will be a purchase cap of $4.99 to avoid any situations where players can dominate through cash alone. Mojang has promised that you can pick up “a reasonable amount of gold” for that amount of money though, in case you do decide to drop some dough.

Scrolls will also be heading to the iPad in the coming months so stay tuned for more information regarding the same. Will you be investing in Scrolls any time soon? Let us know in the comments.

The game will be entering into open beta on June 3rd, and can be purchased for £13/€15/$20 for PC and Mac. The Minecraft developer also has a very helpful mini-guide up to help players get started and explain what the beta provides as the weeks.

The developer has also released a new trailer and artwork for the game which can be viewed above and below (not necessarily in that order).

Scrolls is a very odd hybrid title, and was developed by Jakob Porsér and Markus Persson. It was conceived as combining elements from both trading card games and board games, and developed using the Unity engine. Naturally, coming from the minds of Minecraft, there will be a lot more to Scrolls than meets the eye. Stay tuned for more updates on the game as the open beta commences.

ZeniMax have announced that a settlement has been reached in the lawsuit it filed over Mojang’s applications for ownership of the ‘Scrolls’ trademark. The lawsuit was filed by ZeniMax when Mojang submitted applications covering a range of ‘Scrolls’ trademarks for use in video games and other media.

Under the terms of the settlement, all ownership rights to the ‘Scrolls’ trademark will transfer to ZeniMax, and Mojang will assign to ZeniMax ownership of any pending “Scrolls’ trademark applications. ZeniMax has licensed the ‘Scrolls’ mark to Mojang to be used solely in conjunction with its existing Scrolls digital card game and any add-on material it makes to that game. The terms of the settlement bar Mojang from using the Scrolls mark for any sequel to the current card game, or any other video game.

“We are pleased to have settled this matter with Mojang amicably,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax. “The Elder Scrolls is an important brand to us, and with this settlement we were able to protect our valuable property rights while allowing Mojang to release their digital card game under the name they preferred.”

Mojang-Zenimax saga has reached the court now. What seems to be a simple problem has escalated into much more. Who would have believed that the word ‘Scrolls’ will cause so much troubles to Mojang.

Notch, co-founder of Mojang, reveals how he tried to negotiate with Zenimax and his efforts were futile.

“Our lawyers said to Zenimax that we didn’t agree there was an infringement, but that we’d be willing to find a solution,” he said.

“We offered several different solutions, like us not getting the trademark, and us not using the word ‘Scrolls’ in its raw form, but as part of a longer title. ZeniMax repeatedly refused, demanding we stop using the word ‘Scrolls’.”

It seems he really had an uphill task convincing Zenimax lawyers. Bethesda VP, Pete Hines chimed in as well and revealed his side of the story.

“This is a business matter based on how trademark law works and it will continue to be dealt with by lawyers who understand it, not by me or our developers,” he said.

“Nobody here enjoys being forced into this. Hopefully it will all be resolved soon.”

We hope the Mojang-Zenimax issue is resolved soon as well. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
