Picking up a few weeks after the events of The Quest for Guybrush, The Lair of LeChuck has players accompany Guybrush to Monkey Island. Players will have to figure out a way past the Giant Stone Monkey Head on the island as they unearth golden idols to descend into the maze of catacombs below the island.

With the release of The Lair of LeChuck, the Monkey Island collaboration with Sea of Thieves has officially come to an end. As part of the collaboration, along with the Tall Tales, Sea of Thieves also got a host of Monkey Island-themed cosmetic items, including costumes inspired by Kate Capsize, Herman Toothrot and Stan.

Developer Rare is currently getting ready to release Season 10 for Sea of Thieves, which will bring with it a host of community-centric content, including the ability to create player guilds, as well as PvE servers.

Titled The Lair of LeChuck, the third part of Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island will have players set foot on the eponymous Monkey Island, and will feature a host of iconic places from The Secret of Monkey Island to explore, from a lush jungle to lava-filled underground catacombs.

The second Tall Tale, The Quest for Guybrush, was released earlier this month. It was much more open-ended than the first Tall Tale of the collaboration, allowing players to epxlore Mêlée Island as they completed the three trials, which involved partaking in activities like treasure hunting and Insult Sword Fighting.

The ending of Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island will be followed up with the game’s much-awaited tenth season, with details on the new season and its content slated for being revealed later today.

The new Tall Tale revolves around completing trials to find the three symbols of true pirate courage. The Tall Tale also brings with it some new mechanics, including the ability to take part in Insult Sword Fighting. Players will also have to confront the Beast, and hunt for buried treasure.

The second part of Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island opens up more of Mêlée Island to be explored. The island was previously limited to only Mêlée Town, and players were stopped from exploring more of the island by a mysterious fog.

Sea of Thieves also has a host of new cosmetics available at the Pirate Emporium, including outfits, pets, and ship customization options inspired by the Monkey Island franchise.

According to Eurogamer, the studio has revealed that the second part of the Tall Tale will allow players to further explore Mêlée Island. Exploration on the island in the first Tall Tale was limited to just its city, with the rest of the island’s locations being blocked off by a mysterious fog that prevented progress.

Going by the studio’s own description of the second Tall Tale, it is slated to feature more features and content from Monkey Island, including trials, as well as the presence of Insult Sword Fighting.

Sea of Thieves originally kicked off its Monkey Island collaboration last month. The adventure had players solving puzzles on Mêlée Island, culminating in the return of Monkey Island franchise villain LeChuck. The collaboration is slated to get a final Tall Tale in September.

Going by the trailer, it looks like Sea of Thieves is adapting Mêlée Island quite faithfully, featuring iconic locations from the island like the SCUMM Bar, Mêlée Island’s Main Street, the International House of Mojo, and the Governer’s Mansion.

The Sea of Thieves depiction of Mêlée Island will also feature locations from outside the town, like the Lookout, the Mêlée Island Forest, the Fantastic Flying Fettucini Brothers Circus, and the shipyard at Stan’s Previously Owned Vessels.

The Sea of Thieves crossover with Monkey Island was unveiled back in June, and will bring with it point-and-click-styled puzzles inspired by the Monkey Island franchise. Dubbed The Legend of Monkey Island, it will feature three Tall Tales, and will be available for free to all Sea of Thieves players on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on July 20.

“Nope. Wasn’t even told about it,” said Gilbert. “Happened behind my back.”

According to Eurogamer, developer Terrible Toybox released a statement revealing that it gave Gilbert a heads-up about the crossover, but the crossover content for Sea of Thieves was too far into development for Gilbert to have had any impact by getting involved.

“Disney did give him a heads-up on the project as a courtesy, but the game was well into development at that point and he wasn’t given the opportunity to be meaningfully involved,” said Terrible Toybox’s PR in a statement to Eurogamer. “[Gilbert] cares deeply about Monkey Island and wishes the team at Rare well with the project.”

Rare announced Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island during the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this week. The crossover event will feature 3 new Tall Tales, and will be available to all Sea of Thieves players for free on July 20. The Tall Tales will feature various characters from Monkey Island, including protagonist Guybrush Threepwood, as well as other popular characters like Stan and Murray the Demonic Talking Skull.

The trailer for the crossover, dubbed Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, features the return of many iconic characters from the Monkey Island franchise. It shows off Melee Island, series protagonist Guybrush Threepwood, and several side characters as well, including Elaine, ghost captain LeChuck, and even Murray the Demonic Talking Skull.

The adventure will feature point-and-click-styled puzzles inspired by the Monkey Island franchise and adapted for the first-person gameplay in Sea of Thieves. To prevent interruptions from other players, the adventure will take place in the Sea of the Damned.

In its entirety, The Legend of Monkey Island will feature three Tall Tales, and will be available for free to all Sea of Thieves players on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
