Join us as we run down 15 of the best first-person single-player games that you probably skipped out on, but should definitely give a try.

Despite what many might have thought, single-player games continue to thrive at a rapid pace with a number of new offerings in almost every genre that you think of. This includes but is not limited to first-person games, where you have no shortage of underappreciated games that deserve to be loved by many more fans. To that end, we present 15 of the best single-player first-person games that you probably didn’t play.

System Shock Remake (2023)

System Shock is considered to be one of the most important games of its time, as it was one of the earliest pioneers of systemic game design applied in a first-person space. But even apart from it, System Shock is an impressive game with a gripping story and a detailed world with plenty of lore to surround it all. Nightdive was hard at work on a full-fledged remake of the original, and System Shock Remake was finally released earlier this year to great reviews. It does a great job of modernizing this classic with plenty of clever design tricks and changes that make this experience a more digestible one for fans accustomed to modern first-person games.

The stylish FPS is also coming to Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch later this year. New gameplay has also been revealed.

Voxel-based first person shooter Severed Steel releases on September 17th for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and other storefronts. Developed Greylock Studio, it will also be coming to PS4 and Xbox One later this year with PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch versions also announced. Check out the latest trailer below.

As a sharpshooter named Steel, players partake in battles against intelligent enemies with dynamic AI. Along with the ability to dodge, slide and leap from walls, she can activate bullet time to carefully aim shots. There’s no reloading, which means you’ll need to pick weapons out of mid-air (or from your opponents), and Steel’s arm cannon allows for busting through walls to get the drop on foes.

A demo for the game is currently out on Steam and recently received another campaign level along with tweaks to the movement and other improvements. Along with a campaign, Severed Steel will launch with a level editor, allowing players to create their own and share them (though it’s currently in beta). Stay tuned for more details en route to the title’s launch.

Take control of Steel as she shoots, dives, wall runs and obliterates squads of enemies. The FPS is in the works for Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

Greylock Studio’s Severed Steel made an appearance at the Future Games Show and we got to see more of it in action. The first person shooter is noteworthy for its voxel environments (which are destructible), bullet time and a protagonist named Steel who only has one arm. Check it out below.

“Style” is an important part of Severed Steel and the player will wall run, flip, slide and dive their way through foes (while also shooting them). Like Superhot, you have to acquire new weapons when the current one is spent. Fortunately, a lot of your soon-to-be dead enemies can help out with that. Weapons can also be thrown which comes in handy.

Thanks to dynamic AI, each battle comes out feeling different, providing more replayability in the process. Severed Steel is currently in development for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Stay tuned for more gameplay and hopefully a release window in the coming months.
