Filming is currently in progress for a "teaser trailer" as per Flying Wild Hog.

Flying Wild Hog, better known for its Shadow Warrior franchise, has been rather quiet lately. Publisher Devolver Digital did confirm that some announcement was coming from the studio, possibly for the upcoming Devolver Digital Direct. However, Flying Wild Hog itself has more or less confirmed that this could be the case.

“More or less” because it took to Twitter with the image “Teaser trailer filming in progress, quiet please!” If that doesn’t hint at an upcoming announcement, then we don’t know what could. The real question is whether this is a brand new Shadow Warrior game or something else entirely.

Shadow Warrior 2 launched in October 2016 for PC – it later came to Xbox One and PS4 in May 2017. The sequel saw the return of Lo Wang and introduced loot systems, randomized layouts for maps, a procedural damage system and more open areas. While sales numbers are unknown, Flying Wild Hog reported quadruple the sales of the original reboot. As for what’s coming next, stay tuned for Devolver Digital Direct on July 11th possible details.

Humble Bundle’s latest offer is one that should be appealing for PlayStation 4 owners, especially those who love indie titles. The Humble Indie PlayStation Bundle 2019 offers up to nine different games and will be available until February 12th, 11 AM PST. Head here to pick it up for yourself.

The tiered-model is fairly simple – pay $1 and you get Grim Fandango Remastered, The Bard’s Tale Remastered, and InnerSpace. Pay more than the current average, which is about $9, and you get four more titles – Layers of Fear, Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut, The Talos Principle, and Broken Age. If you pay $15 or more, then you also get Killing Floor 2 and Shadow Warrior as well. Not a bad deal, overall.

Along with the games, you’ll also receive soundtracks for Grim Fandango, InnerSpace, Layers of Fear, and Broken Age. These are available at each game’s respective tier. Consumers can also decide how much of their money goes to charity, the Humble Store, or the developers in question.

All out nuclear warfare.

Nuclear weapons are the nightmare scenario for many people, even those who don’t actively worry about them. Not only do they entail the utter ruination of nearly every species as we know it but the Earth itself becomes a barren wasteland. Still, there’s something about the sheer destruction that nukes can cause which is hard to ignore, especially in the power fantasy scenarios of some games. Let’s take a look at such games here and how they let you use nukes.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Destruction sandbox Mercenaries 2 caps off its story in the only way it possibly could – by giving the player a mini nuke to break open the enemy’s bunker. Going forward, it’s possible to purchase more mini-nukes, thus allowing for more wanton nuclear destruction across the map. It’s a living, we suppose.

February is still several days out but Microsoft has announced its upcoming Games With Gold for Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One and Xbox 360. This is part of a promotion with the service that grants free games, no questions asked. Well, aside from someone asking “Why is THIS the free game this month?”

Games With Gold for February include Shadow Warrior, Flying Wild Hog’s remake of the FPS classic. This one focuses more on hack and slash action, kitschy violence and guns. It’s not quite as good as Shadow Warrior 2 which adds a loot grind aspect and randomly generated missions but it’ll suffice. You can download it for free on Xbox One for the entire month of February.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is the other free Xbox One title which will be available from February 16th to March 15th. Xbox 360 gamers will get their hands on Split/Second from February 1st till February 15th. On February 16th, Crazy Taxi will replace it until February 28th. With Xbox 360 games being backwards compatible on the Xbox One, that means four free games next month. Thoughts on the selection? Let us know below.

They may not have the greatest looks but they're still tons of fun.

Graphics can be a rather touchy subject. Some games may not have photo-realistic visuals but make up for it with memorable art-styles that are technically sound in other ways. Aesthetics may dictate a certain game’s graphics more than you think and trying to classify something as having “bad” graphics is tough. Sure, there are games like that but as a whole, they’re still enjoyable (if you like the genre in mind that is). Let’s take a look at 15 great games with “mediocre” graphics.

Note: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of, and should not be attributed to, GamingBolt as an organization.

Undertale

Toby Fox’s Undertale possesses a ton of charm underneath its relatively archaic visuals. Whether it’s the quirky gameplay, freedom of choice or utter wit, it’s a game whose art-style pays homage to the retro era of gaming. For a retro-styled game though, it could look a little bit better. Regardless, if you want a compelling story with significant consequences, Undertale is your ticket.

"There are a ton of old PlayStation games we would really like to come back to."

Last year, Microsoft announced that they would be enabling backwards compatibility on Xbox one for Xbox 360 games. It was a great move – backwards compatibility is generally not a feature that is much used, and is most useful at the beginning of a console generation, to enable a smooth transition between systems – but it represented the new, consumer friendly way that Microsoft was doing things, in stark contrast with how Sony was handling legacy content on the PS4 with PS Now.

Eventually, Sony announced PS2 Classics on the PS4 too, but they handled it terribly- none of your already purchased legacy content in the guise of PS2 Classics on PS3 carried over to the PS4- put simply, you would have to repurchase GTA: San Andreas if you wanted to play it on the PS4. It was a crying shame, and it was an important area where Microsoft definitely acted more ‘for the gamers’ than Sony did.

Obviously, we as customers were unhappy about it- but how do developers feel about the differences in Microsoft and Sony’s strategy? GamingBolt recently had the chance to sit down and talk with Flying Wild Hog, the folks who brought us Shadow Warrior, and who are currently working on Hard Reset Redux, and we asked them what their take on the differences in approach to backwards compatibility was.

“We love the idea of backwards compatibility and we wish PS4 would have it the same way Xbox One does,” a representative from Flying Wild Hog said to GamingBolt. “There are a ton of old PlayStation games we would really like to come back to.”

Indeed, there is no real reason why continuity could not have been achieved between legacy content offered on PS3, and the legacy content offered on the PS4. No reason, that is, other than Sony wanting to maximize on revenue.

Shadow Warrior, the excellent and quirky first person shooter that Flying Wild Hog remastered and re-released for PC, will also be coming to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, Bandai Namco have announced. The new console versions were originally announced for September this year, but then they got delayed to October.

Speaking about the delay, the developer issued the following statement:

“Bringing Shadow Warrior to PS4 and XB1 has proven to be a challenge for us as we want to make sure the player experience is perfect. In play testing we have been focusing in on the controller inputs and response.

“We recognised that we needed more time to improve this as Shadow Warrior is an old school FPS and this demands perfection. Sadly this means a small delay in the release date, but Lo Wang needs to be at his best on these shiny new consoles.”

Well, that sounds fair enough to me. Really, I’d rather the game play well than a stupid day one patch or something like that.

'You've got Wang.'

Shadow Warrior was the remake/reimagining of 3D Realms classic game by Flying Wild Hog, released on the PC last September, and doing pretty well for itself, all said and done. Now, almost exactly one full year later, Namco Bandai are bringing it to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 too. And of course, in keeping with the spirit of the game itself, they have wisely decided to call the trailer for the game ‘Get Some Wang!’ Hey, it got your attention, didn’t it?

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release will, they promise, boast exclusive content and high quality redone graphics. Whether they mean redone from the PC release just last year, which would be an incentive even for PC owners to pick this new release up, or just redone as in redone from the original 3D Realms game, which would make this the same as last year’s PC release, isn’t yet clear.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more in any case.
