Shenmue was initially released back in 1999, and whether you played it back then or not, it’s definitely worth picking up the game now in its remastered form. The most important part about this remastered edition is that you will be able to experience the game on your modern gaming systems including as it will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Apart from greatly improved visual quality, you will now also be able to enjoy other benefits such as much faster loading times.

The game’s story follows Ryo Hazuki as he sets out to avenge the death of his father. The game features quite a detailed open world in which there’s a lot to do, including managing your day on an allowance, playing the various minigames that are available, and more. If you’re planning to pick up Shenmue 3 when it finally releases in 2019, it’ll help you to know the events that transpire in this game. It was recently revealed that High Definition ports of Shenmue 1 & 2 would be released later this year as a single package for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Now, we’ve received some new information about what we can expect from these re-released titles.

The information was shared by YouTuber Adam Koralik. According to him, the games will be sold together for $29.99. While there will be a physical edition released for the PS4 and Xbox One, it will only be available digitally for the PC. Furthermore, we get to learn that it is D3t Ltd. who will be handling the release of these games. This is the same company which worked on titles such as Lawbreakers and Killzone: Shadow Fall. Finally, Koralik also revealed that Achievements and Trophies will be available with these games across all the different platforms.

While Koralik was able to learn much more about the game, he states that he is able to talk about only 5% of what he has learnt, so we’ll hopefully get to know more about the game later on. Shenmue 1 & 2 will be re-released later this year exclusively for the PS4 in Japan. It was revealed  only a few days ago that Shenmue 1 & 2 would be re-released as part of a HD collection for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While a few screenshots were released back then, the Japanese branch of Sega has now released some new screenshots of a higher resolution.

The higher resolution certainly makes a difference and makes these classic games look much better than we had anticipated. Given that these re-released games will also feature other improvements such as optimized UI, availability of modern and classic control schemes, it makes sense that these games will also look much better. These new screenshots showcase different aspects of the game including a forklift race, some fighting from the game, and more.

You can check out the new screenshots below. Shenmue 1 & 2 will re-release for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One later this year. In Japan, the collection will be released exclusively for the PS4.

To the surprise of almost no one, Sega will be releasing HD ports for Shenmue 1 and 2 later this year. They will arrive as a single package on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the PS4 box art for the game below.

Hearing fan requests and taking special care to port the games in accordance to fan expectations, Shenmue 1 and 2 HD will feature modern controls as an option. Classic controls will still be present in case you want the authentic Shenmue experience. English and Japanese voice tracks will also be available, so it remains to be seen if the infamous sailor inquiry lines will sound better in Japanese.

Such a move was expected since Shenmue 3 is in development for PS4 and PC (currently). It’s a good way to familiarize new fans with the series and let them know what to expect. That being said, does an Xbox One version of the ports mean that Shenmue 3 could come to the platform in the future? Time will tell but it’s certainly not impossible.

Well we have an interesting news for you this time. Gamerzines is reporting that Sega has been sitting on a finished version of Shenmue for over a year.

Their source said, “Shenmue HD is real [and has been] finished for well over a year.

“As is Shenmue II HD.”

But why did they choose to keep quiet and not mention anything about it? Their source says, they weren’t clear about the future of the Shenmue franchise, and wanted to wait and see.
