What truly sets Sports Story apart from its predecessor, Golf Story, is the mix of different sports the player can partake in. While you’ll play through eight golf courses, there’s also a tennis world tour, soccer, volleyball, and much more. As your Sporting Rank increases, other activities like cricket, mini-golf, BMX, fishing, and so on will become unlocked.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a role-playing game without abandoned ruins and dungeons to explore. You can also undertake quests, take the train to buildings filled with goats, and explore the Wildlands (which seem to have land pirates). In December of last year, Sidebar Games announced Sports Story, a sequel to the charming RPG Golf Story that will be taking things far beyond just golf, as the name implies. The game was originally scheduled to launch in mid-2020, but its release date has now been pushed back.

In an update posted to Twitter, the developer announced that Sports Story is being delayed. Revealing that the game has become far more ambitious than they had originally planned, Sidebar Games say they need more time to work on it and that everything they have planned for it manages to make its way into the final product. No new release date has yet been announced, but the developer says it is “eager to reveal the results of these past 2 years.”

The video also teases some interesting things about what will make it into the game, with everything from pirates and evil corporations to pirates and, of course, sports being mentioned. Take a look below.

Sidebar Games’ golfing RPG mashup Golf Story was one of the biggest indie surprises on the Nintendo Switch in 2017, and fans of the game will be rejoiced that a sequel is in development. During Nintendo’s recent Indie World presentation, it was announced that Sports Story, a sequel to Golf Story, is in the works- and as its name suggests, it’s expanding its horizons.

Golf will, of course, still play a major role in the game, but players can also expect several other sports to be involved as well. Tennis is going to be a major new component, while other featured sports include baseball, fishig, football, and much more. Beyond that, players will also engage with other activities, like dungeon crawling, espionage, and treasure hunting, while the charming and whimsical tone and style of the first game also looks like it’s being retained.
