However, when the folks at Siliconera caught up with Silent Hill producer Tomm Hulett, they asked for his opinion on the matter:

“We really wanted to focus on the we knew fans cared the most about since we needed to put in the effort to put them in HD, redo the sound, and do all these things, we didn’t want to give them something we weren’t sure the wanted 100%.”

“If you’re a Silent Hill fan you either love 2 or 3 the best. Here, you get both of them. Everyone’s happy. If they like the HD treatment, maybe there’s more in the future, but for now that’s all we’re concentrating on.”

Speaking of the HD collection, check out a sneak peek of the new SH 2 voice acting below. It sounds a bit too emotive for my old skool horror sensibility…

Curious as to why a total re-reocrding of the voice acting in Silent Hill 2 & 3 for the upcoming Silent Hill collection is taking place, one fan took matters into his own fans and asked actor Guy Chih, who voiced SH2 protagonist James Sunderland, if he could shed any light on the sitaution. His response was as follows:

“Sure, I’d do it again if they asked me but they won’t. The problem is that Konami has already been notified they own me residuals for all previous re-uses of my mocap and voice recordings. Changing the voice won’t excuse them with the next release because my mocap is there all in there. (Sorry, Konami, I own those rights!) I’ll get around to seeking compensation through the court one of these days. I simply don’t have the time for it right now. Anybody who has ever sought justice through the cout knows how much money and energy it takes. Hope this doesn’t bum you guys out… It’s just the way it is.”

I personally thought the dead-pan drawl of James Sunderland made Silent Hill 2 all the more unnerving but, apparently I am alone in this in this opinion so, many may be pleased to hear that the Silent Hill collection will feature all new voice acting (which is being directed by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn who voiced Major Kusanagai in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Silent Hill collection will include SH2 and 3, will have trophy support and should be out this fall/autumn on PS3.

Thanks to Siliconera for the info.
