Check out some new gameplay for upcoming skateboarding game Skate, giving us a look at the title's development progress.

Developer Full Circle has released a new video showcasing the development progress being made on Skate. The video shows off footage from the game’s ongoing insider playtest, showcasing some sick tricks pulled off by players.

The video shows off footage described as pre-pre-alpha gameplay, and showcases a variety of skateboarding tricks, insane jumps, and even gives us a glimpse at the potential of things we can do off the skateboard, like swinging across on monkey bars.

Skate is currently deep in development, and even this latest video shows us that assets are nowhere near ready, with several ramps and half-pipes featuring flat colours instead of being fully textured. Back in May, EA revealed that it doesn’t expect Skate to come out before April 2024.

Full Circle has been quite transparent about the development of Skate, releasing periodic updates on the title’s development progress. Back in April, the studio revealed that it plans on bringing the Skate insider playtest to consoles later this year.

Skate is slated for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Upcoming skateboarding game Skate will not feature loot boxes, and will have player progression. There is also a console playtest in the works.

As part of the transparent development process for Skate, developer Full Circle has revealed a host of new details about the upcoming skateboarding title. In episode 3 of its The Board Room video series, the studio has revealed that the playtest for Skate won’t be exclusive to PC for too long, with a console release for the playtest slated for later this year.

The developers also revealed details about Skate‘s progression system. As part of progression in the game, players will be able to earn different rewards depending on their choice of difficulty. There will be three difficulty levels to choose from, and the hardest one will get players the most rewards.

While the studio hasn’t gone into too much detail about what kinds of activities players will be able to partake in, it has stated that every activity will get players closer to earning some sort of new reward. The rewards seem to be mostly cosmetic items that players can use to customise their characters.

The studio has stated, however, that activities will largely be categorised into one of four types: Challenges, Pop-ups, Community Events, and Throwdowns. Challenges will be short activities that regularly change. Pop-ups will feature dynamic activities that show up randomly throughout the game’s city. Community Events will have players skate collaboratively, and Throwdowns will allow players to play with each other in a variety of ways, from practicing together to showing off.

It was also confirmed that the game will not have loot boxes—which contradicts earlier rumours and was a decision that may have been changed after player feedback—and that the progression systems are still in the early stages of development.

Skate doesn’t yet have a release date, but it does currently have an ongoing playtest on PC. The game will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson hints at user-generated content forming a major part of the sequel, which is seemingly close to release.

While DICE’s Battlefield 2042 disappointed, publisher Electronic Arts’ portfolio for the year is still looking very strong. Along with the Dead Space remake that’s planned for late 2022, the company is also reviving the Skate franchise for its fourth iteration (titled simply “skate.“). And it’s coming “soon” as per CEO Andrew Wilson.

Fielding a question about user-generated content in its Q3 FY2021 earnings call (transcription by Seeking Alpha), Wilson spoke about how the company has delivered “new and interesting and fun ways to engage with content.” This includes “the ability to create your own content and put it into that ecosystem,” which has been “at the very center of The Sims for a long time” along with FIFA Ultimate Team and Madden Ultimate Team. He also described it as the “very center of the design of skate., which we’ll be launching soon.”

Of course, both the publisher and developer Full Circle have been fairly tight-lipped about the game in general. It’s been hinted to feature multiplayer, which would fit in well with user-generated content (especially if players can share and play their creations with others online). An open world and similarities to Skate 2 have also been noted, though an EA spokesperson said in July 2021 that it’s “too soon” to confirm anything.

Perhaps we’ll learn more in the coming months especially at EA Play Live. skate. is currently confirmed to be releasing for PC, though console releases can also be expected.

EA's Skate series will finally debut on PC with the release of skate.. Other platforms have yet to be officially confirmed, however.

There hasn’t been too much gameplay footage or information on Full Circle’s skate., the next title in the beloved Skate franchise. Its platforms haven’t even been confirmed…with one recent exception. On Twitter, the developer officially confirmed that skate. would be coming to PC.

While it may have seemed obvious, this actually marks the series’ debut on the platform. Skate 3, which released in 2010, was only available for PS3 and Xbox 360. Will it be coming to Steam along with Origin? If online multiplayer is included, can we expect cross-progression and other features? It’s still too early to know.

What we do know is that skate. will be open world, much like Skate 2 according to behind-the-scenes footage released in July. Electronic Arts revealed that the title was “still in the early stages” and as such, features like always-online and the setting had yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more details and announcements in the meantime – it’s all slowly coming together.

Developer Full Circle doesn't showcase any gameplay but various details, like similarities to Skate 2 and multiplayer, are hinted at.

Full Circle has released a new teaser video for Skate 4, which the development team has taken to calling skate.. There’s no gameplay since it’s still early in development but there are plenty of people who have seen the gameplay and are in the video. Check it out below.

Along with behind-the-scenes footage of motion capture, there are comments about how the game is open world and similar to Skate 2. Another comment talks about playing with others, which seems to indicate the presence of multiplayer (either co-op or competitive). At one point, someone says “Wait, the game is…?” and that could mean just about anything. Again, it’s too early to comment.

Electronic Arts felt the same way since a spokesperson told PC Gamer, “I can share that skate. is still in the early stages of development and as such, it’s too soon to confirm any specific features.” So whether it’s always-online, includes multiplayer or whatever else fans may theorize, we’ll have to wait for more details. One thing is for sure – it won’t be at EA Play Live on July 22nd and the development team has yet to confirm its platforms.

Developer Full Circle says it's not going to be showing off the next Skate game at EA Play Live later this week, but will have a small update on the game soon nonetheless.

It’s been over a year since EA announced Skate 4, the long-awaited revival of the beloved series, but in that time, we’ve had next to no updates on the game- other than the announcement of developer Full Circle being established to focus on the game. With EA Play Live coming up soon, many were hoping that we’d see at least a little bit of the new Skate soon- but it seems like that’s not going to happen.

Taking to Twitter via the official Skate account, the developers confirmed that they’re not going to be part of the EA Play Live show later this week. “It’s still early and we are committed to going this thing right, which means it’s gonna take some time,” the message reads. “Our number one goal is not to blow it.”

That said, the developers have said that they’ll be sharing “a little something” tomorrow- which could be anything, really, but it’s good to know that we’re going to get at least some sort of update soon. It’s probably not going to be anything too big though, so keep your expectations in check.

EA Play Live is scheduled for this Thursday, July 22. The show is said to be around 40 minutes long, and will features games such as Battlefield 2042, Apex Legends, and Lost in Random. Leaks have heavily suggested that a Dead Space revival developed by EA Motive is also going to be announced.

It’s also been confirmed that the next Mass Effect, the next Dragon Age, and new Star Wars games are not going to be at the event.

Ya'll remember when they announced Skate 4?

It can be hard to believe with everything that has happened over the last year, but it was indeed in 2020 when EA announced out of nowhere they would be making a new Skate game, which we’ll refer to as Skate 4 for the time being. It was a strange announcement, coming almost in an offhand way with no footage, platforms, or even a general idea of what it would be like. Well, it seems even if you forget, EA didn’t, and they even have a brand new studio to lead development.

Announced on the official Skate Twitter, EA has formed a new studio in Vancouver they are calling Full Circle to head up development on the game. Alongside it is also lots of listings for positions this new studio. It is unclear if this studio will only be working on the next Skate, or if they will also be on other projects.

It’s also unclear as to what stage of development this game is in, but considering the amount of positions that’s being looked at here, it seems it is pretty early, if even started in full development yet. With that in mind, I wouldn’t expect to hear a lot about either Skate 4 (or whatever it’ll be called) or Full Circle for a good while.

Hi! Yes, we’re still working on the next Skate and we officially formed a studio to prove it! https://t.co/Ha1Zf9omyI pic.twitter.com/2M3WNvzBxb

With the new Skate, EA plans to go "well beyond just creating a skateboarding game."

Skateboarding games are coming back. Not only are Activision re-entering the space with Tony Hawk remakes this September, EA also recently announced that thanks to much demand from fans (to put it mildly), they’ll be bringing back Skate a decade after the launch of Skate 3.

When Skate 4 – or whatever EA ends up calling it – will release remains to be seen, and right now, details on the game are very sparse (also putting it mildly), but in a recent investors call (via VGC), EA CEO Andrew Wilson spoke a bit about what direction they will be taking with the franchise’s comeback.

As per Wilson’s statement, EA are looking to unlock “a whole new world” with Skate 4 that will go “well beyond just creating a skateboarding game.” And what form will that take? Fans should expect to see a game that focuses on “secular trends” in the industry, including things such as user-generated content, open world gameplay, and community interaction.

“You take a game like Skate, and while skateboarding in and of itself has tremendous appeal to a huge, global audience, there’s also another secular trend that’s happening inside our industry around user-generated content, open-world and interaction,” Wilson said. “For many people, skateboarding isn’t just a sport: it unlocks their access to art, culture… if you follow a guy called Nyjah Huston on Instagram, who’s one of the world’s great skateboarders, you’ll discover that he’s a young guy who started out skateboarding, but now is a fashion and art icon who lives in a big house in Beverly Hills and drives around in a Rolls Royce.”

“So for many people, you think about skating as a starting point that has appeal, but you start to build in user-generated content, exploration and community on top of that, and that expands the opportunity exponentially,” Wilson continued. “So as we think about our future and we think about growth, a big part of it is choosing games that not only themselves have appeal, but can benefit from secular trends in our communities that we think will grow them even beyond our initial expectations.”

Given the manner in which the game was announced – with no reveal trailer or snippets of gameplay (or even a name) – we can probably expect that Skate 4 is a ways off right now. Hopefully, however, EA will continue to share more details on the game in the coming months.

After 10 years, Electronic Arts is working on a sequel.

Electronic Arts had some pretty good announcements during EA Play Live 2020 (even if we didn’t see the remasters of Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect Trilogy rumored to be in the works). However, the publisher ended the presentation by confirming something that Skate fans have wanted to hear. It’s official: A new Skate title is in the works.

Creative director Cuz Parry and game director Deran Chung confirmed the news, though it’s still very early. Whether the game is Skate 4 or, as said by Parry at one point, Skate 4ever, remains to be seen. Regardless, the comments that have been asking for a new Skate title for years have finally been vindicated.

It’s been more than a decade since Skate 3 launched for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game was lauded at the time for its realistic, down-to-earth depiction of skating and the challenges of mastering the same. It also gained some fame for its rag-doll physics, leading to massive sales in 2014.

Despite the demands for bringing it back, Skate 4 seems a ways off. So stay tuned for any details in the coming days.

Sorry fans.

Remember when an EA community manager tweeted out “#skate4” and it gave us the tiniest bit of hope that a sequel to the franchise would finally be announced? Because it’s not happening and this was confirmed by none other than EA CEO Andrew Wilson himself.

In an earnings call today, Wilson noted that the publisher is “not presently making Skate 4“. Apparently this is a disappointment for EA CFO Blake Jorgensen who really likes the series.

However, the key takeaway is “not presently”. It’s possible that a new Skate title arrives sometime in the future but that will be later rather than sooner.

The last major title in the Skate franchise was Skate 3 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 version is being added to the Xbox One’s list of backwards compatible games which is a big plus. Would you like to see Skate 4 though? Let us know in the comments below.
