n-Space has been a veritable force in bringing the Skylanders franchise to the Nintendo 3DS with Skylanders: Giants and Skylanders: Swap Force being the most standout efforts. It now seems to be working on a new “high profile” action RPG for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

This was indicated in a recent listing for a 3D Character Animator which states that the person in question “will be working closely with the Art Director and Designers to create an amazing gameplay experience on an upcoming high‐profile action RPG for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4!”

What’s even more interesting is that the animator will require “expertise in animating all forms of life” but also be required to animate “quadrupeds, and flying creatures.” So there will definitely be a fantasy element not unlike Skylanders.

Skylanders has become one of the most profitable franchises for Activision and after the downfall of the Guitar Hero brand, it’s something they desperately needed to support Call of Duty. It has been revealed that the franchise crossed $500 million in retail sales in the U.S., and has also reached this milestone faster than any other kids’ gaming property, according to Activision.

These are figures provided by Activision after refering to NPD and Chart Track.

“Just a year ago, the concept of bringing toys to life in a virtual world was an untested play pattern that Activision and Toys For Bob believed in.  Now the category has been established in the market and embraced by parents and kids everywhere,” said John Coyne, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, Activision Publishing.

The franchise is supported by a robust licensing program that includes more than 120 licensees worldwide in categories including Plush, Apparel, Home Décor, Bed and Bath, Party Goods, Board Games and Back to School, among others.

“Even before the concept was fully formed, we were immediately taken with the charm and magic behind the Skylanders property and following the highly successful introduction of Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures, we knew that Skylanders Giants would be a top-seller in 2012,” said Richard Barry, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer, Toys“R”Us, Inc.

“We believe that Skylanders is one of the most innovative and exciting toy properties to hit the market and are thrilled to continue our strong support of the brand.”

UK Managing Director of Activision Blizzard Peter Hepworth commented on the win, stating that, “We are absolutely delighted to have won best video game at the British Academy Children’s Awards. This is a proud moment for Activision and development studio Toys for Bob and with Skylanders Giants proving to be a hit with children, we’re all very excited about the future of Skylanders.”

Speaking of which, for those who’ve missed it, Skylanders: Giants is already available in both North America and Europe for Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U and Playstation 3 with all versions (excluding the 3DS) scoring 79 and above in Metacritic scores.

Hot Head is described as a “short tempered fire giant”, who kind of caused the entire Skylanders island to explode. He’s got access oto magical oil, which feeds his fire abilities all the more, and now that he has an infinite supply, he’s just about ready to burn anything and everything to the ground. Like a boss.

Sprocket on the other hand is a tech-oriented creature, described as a “rich, proper Golding” who likes building things. However, when her inventor uncle disappeared and that Kaos was behind, Sprocket decided to make a battle suit and kill the crap out of everything. Or trying to reunite with her uncle while fighting the forces of evil. Something like that.

Finally, we have Flashwing an earth element creature who’s origins are shrouded in mystery, but she packs enough beauty and power to suitably take down the most lethal gem dragon with a simple tail lazer.

Skylanders: Giants is currently slated for a Wii U release this November.

The sales charts for UK for the week ending October 20 are now out, and FIFA 13 is still in the top spot, keeping the likes of Dishonored and Pokemob Black/White 2 and even new releases such as Skylanders Giants and Doom 3: BFG Edition at bay.

Incidentally, those two new releases debuted pretty strongly, with Skylanders Giants at No. 2 and Doom 3: BFG Edition at the fifth position.

007 Legends failed to break into the top 10, not surprisingly. It debuted on the 12th position, despite Skyfall being just days away from release. That ca probably be attributed to universal critical panning. Us included.

What is the Granite Crusher Giant? Well, he’s a deco character with increased power and level caps, who embodies a unique granite identity with blue crystals, as seen on the toy and in the game. The LightCore Triple Pack will feature three LightCore characters including Prism Break, Eruptor and Drobot.

While the Granite Crusher will retail for $14.99 USD, the Lightcore Triple Pack will retail for $11.99 USD. And don’t worry Spyro fans: he comes included in the retail version of the platforming extravaganza. Skylanders Giants is already available in EU and due for an NA release on October 21st.
