It's about six times more than the original.

Thanks to a listing in the Australian Microsoft Xbox One store, we now know how big the download for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Remastered special edition is going to be. It turns out that even games that were relatively small on the previous version are logging in with some pretty impressive download sizes on the Xbox One and PS4.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim carried a size of just 4GB on the Xbox 360. The size of the remastered Special Edition is quite a bit larger and has a size of 22.75GB, as per the Australian Microsoft Store. In other words, when it comes to the Xbox One and the PS4, the title is about almost six times larger.

Just why this game is so much bigger can be partially explained by the extra content included that wasn’t in the original Skyrim. The remastered version has all of the game’s DLC. It should also be pointed out, that download size is still lower than quite a few recent games. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Remastered Special Edition is due to launch for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 28.

No big mic drop moment, but three smaller, powerful ones nonetheless.

We’re just a few hours away from Bethesda’s showing at E3 this year- and if is anything like their excellent conference last year, we’re going to end up with a jam packed, well paced show that will far and away be the best at the event.

Unlike last year, however, there is the small problem of Bethesda not having that one bombshell announcement this year- sure, they have rumored announcements for Prey 2, Wolfenstein 2, and The Evil Within 2, but nothing on the scale of Fallout 4, right?

However, we contend that while they might not have that one big mic drop moment, they will have a few smaller announcements relating to their core franchises that should collectively have the same amount of impact. We think that Bethesda will use E3 to show us the second wave of post launch DLC for Fallout 4, of which Nuka World is widely speculated to be the first. Then there is the Skyrim remaster, which at this point is all but confirmed, thanks to numerous well placed leaks. And finally, we believe that The Elder Scrolls 6 will at least get mentioned, even if it does not get a proper announcement- if only because we do think Bethesda will bring it up when they announce the Skyrim remaster tangentially.

We can’t expect a full Elder Scrolls 6 announcement right now, of course- Fallout 4 came out only last year, and Bethesda take a while to work on their games. That, plus the extended post launch support for Fallout 4 will almost certainly delay development on The Elder Scrolls 6 a fair bit- but with that said, even if they don’t even mention the game, even if it’s just all of the other stuff mentioned above, one wold have to concede that they had a hell of a successful conference.

"My Xbox 360 copy was chugging along fine until it took an arrow to the red ring."

Well-known industry insider Shinobi earlier mentioned that Bethesda will be outing a remaster for eighth-gen consoles. While he wasn’t clear on which Bethesda franchise will receive the remaster treatment, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim seems to be the most likely candidate. Now, further rumours indicate that the Skyrim remaster may be getting mod support on consoles, alongside visual enhancements and all released downloadable content.

Elder Scrolls games typically spend a lot of time in the oven–Morrowind launched seven years after Daggerfall, and Skyrim itself spent five years in development. While we will hit five years come November, an Elder Scrolls VI announcement at E3 is still unlikely considering that both The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 4 are going strong.

The mod support experiment with Fallout 4 on console has turned out to be largely successful, giving console gamers a significant taste of the PC experience. Mods, and total conversions like Enderal: Shards of Order have kept Skyrim fresh on PC for half a decade, so a console remaster will almost certainly feature Fallout 4-esque mod functionality. In terms of visual enhancements, our expectations run the gamut from a clean, MSAA-backed 1080p vanilla experience (quite likely), to a ground-up visual overhaul that carries over updated engine features from Fallout 4 like a physically-based rendering pipeline (hopefully.)

shinobi602 has possibly revealed one of the big announcements of Bethesda's E3 2016 press conference.

Bethesda will be holding their annual press conference at E3 this Sunday and according to a very trusted insider they may have a remaster in works. Reliable industry insider shinobi602 was recently on a podcast hosted by Youtuber MrMattyPlays and during their conversation, the insider revealed that Bethesda is working on a remaster.

Unfortunately, that is all he revealed but there is a good chance that the remaster may turn out to be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PS4, Xbox One and possibly the PC. Furthermore, a closer look at this year’s banner of Bethesda’s E3 conference shows off several characters (possibly classes) from The Elder Scrolls series which in turn hints towards an announcements of sorts.

As usual, this information should be taken with a grain of salt but shinobi602 has a terrific track record so don’t be surprised if Bethesda announces a The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim remaster for current gen consoles and PC. What are your thoughts on this? Do you want a Skyrim remaster?
