PS Plus subscribers can download Hood: Outlaws and Legends, Slay the Spire, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Biki Bottom - Rehydrated in April.

Big changes are coming to PlayStation Plus in a couple months’ time, but even so, the monthly rollout of free games for subscribers obviously isn’t stopping. Sony has now officially unveiled what PlayStation Plus’ lineup of free games is gong to be for April, and as has been the case with most months of late, the recent PS Plus leak has proven accurate.

Starting April 5, PS Plus subscribers can claim Sumo Digital’s PvPvE heist game Hood: Outlaws and Legends, MegaCrit’s seminal roguelike deck builder Slay the Spire, and Purple Lamp Studios’ acclaimed remake SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Biki Bottom – Rehydrated. Those are pretty solid offerings – Slay the Spire in particular is excellent, while SpongeBob has its own fair share of fans – so subscribers have some good games to claim in the coming days.

That means you have until March 4 to claim the previous month’s PS Plus offerings, which are Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing, Ghostrunner, and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

The April 2022 lineup for PlayStation Plus' free games has seemingly been leaked ahead of its official announcement.

It seems that PlayStation Plus free games lineup for free games in April has been leaked online ahead of its official reveal, with Dealabs user billbul-kun – who’s been accurately leaking monthly PS Plus lineups over the last few months – sharing details on next month’s offerings for subscribers.

The user claims that the three games that are going to be offered to the PlayStation Plus subscribers in April will be Focus Entertainment’s Hood: Outlaws and Legends for PlayStation 5 andPlayStation 4, THQ Nordic’s Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated for PlayStation 4, and Mega Crit Games’ Slay the Spire for PlayStation 4.

Ever since PlayStation 5 launched, Sony has been offering a total of three games with PlayStation Plus each month, with at least one being a native PS5 title.

There isn’t much time left until Sony officially announces the April lineup, so we’ll have more concrete details very soon. Stay tuned.

Recently, Sony also confirmed the Project Spartacus rumours, announcing a revamped PlayStation Plus that will launch in June this year with a collection of hundreds of games offered across three different subscription tiers.

Last year offered some of the toughest bosses in gaming yet - check them out here.

There are always some bosses, year in and year out, that leave an impression whether it’s through their mechanics or sheer force of will. This year was no different and delivered some of the toughest foes in video game history. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the 15 standout hardest boss fights of the year.

Cortex – Path of Exile: Synthesis League

Leaving aside the confusing League mechanics, this encounter was about fighting several difficult bosses in a row. Each has their own one-shot mechanics; each has their own vaguely discernible moves that are tough to dodge. You don’t really know what’s happening much of the time until the fight kind of ends (or you die). But for all intents and purposes, it’s a tough fight, even for the best builds.

MegaCrit founder Anthony Giovannetti speaks with GamingBolt about the studio's excellent card roguelike card battler.

Having been in early access for a couple of years, Slay the Spire is a title that was slowly making waves for a while. With its full launch on PC earlier this year, the deck-building roguelike title captured the attention – and hearts – of millions, and it hasn’t looked back since. With its subsequent PS4 and Nintendo Switch launches, it’s only gone from strength to strength. We recently sent across a few of our questions about the game to the developers at MegaCrit, hoping to get some answers about what lies ahead for their breakout hit- the following questions were answered by MegaCrit founder and Slay the Spire’s lead designer Anthony Giovannetti.

"Early Access was absolutely integral to the success of Slay the Spire. It allowed us to grow and develop with our community, and greatly improve balance while improving bugs and addressing requested features. "

Having been in early access for over a year, how pivotal do you think that soft launch period was for Slay the Spire, especially in terms of things like listening to feedback and even acting upon it?

Early Access was absolutely integral to the success of Slay the Spire. It allowed us to grow and develop with our community, and greatly improve balance while improving bugs and addressing requested features.

With Slay the Spire now being out of early access, how have things changed in terms of ongoing support for the game?

We have shifted from the hyper speed weekly update schedule to a slower update cycle when larger more impactful updates are ready. We are currently working on a 4th character.

Can you talk us through what your plans are for Slay the Spire going forward?

Porting to other platforms, and a 4th character with some other content updates are what is currently on the roadmap.

"Mod support has been beloved by the community, and something we are very happy is with. I love seeing the creative stuff that our community comes up with!"

Mixing card battle games and roguelites isn’t something that would have even entered many minds not too long ago, but you’ve done it, and done it very well at that- how did that idea come about?

Roguelikes and deckbuilding games seemed like a natural mechanical pairing. The roguelikes give you a good framework for why the player is developing a new deck each time they play. I always enjoyed deckbuilders like Dominion and Ascension, and found drafting and deckbuilding to be my favorite part of traditional CCGs.

How important has the game’s mod support for its Windows version been? Is that an area you plan on focusing more going forward?

Mod support has been beloved by the community, and something we are very happy is with. I love seeing the creative stuff that our community comes up with! We have tried some minor things to make modding slightly easier, but in general the best thing we can do is sit back and not break things for the modders.

Card games seem to do very well on mobile devices- Slay the Spire isn’t strictly speaking a CCG, but have you given any thought to bringing it to the platform anyway?

Yup! We have announced that we will be porting to mobile. I do not have exact dates, but expect sometime later this year.

"Many players have started playing Slay the Spire on Switch, and are loving it. There are still some bugs we are working through, but consoles in general will continue to get updates and improvements. "

The Switch has become something of a haven for indie titles, and Slay the Spire seems to have found a solid audience on the system- how well has the game performed on the platform since its launch?

Many players have started playing Slay the Spire on Switch, and are loving it. There are still some bugs we are working through, but consoles in general will continue to get updates and improvements.

Tomorrow, Ashes Cricket and Pandemic will be available for Xbox Game Pass on console. PC players can get their hands on the awesome side-scrolling platformer Downwell.

On August 8th, party game Jackbox Party Pack 2 becomes available for Xbox One, while Space Hulk Tactics is added to PC. Both console and PC players will have reason to rejoice on August 14th though, because Mega Crit Games’ Slay the Spire becomes available. If you crave a rogue-lite, dungeon crawler with deck-building, this is the game for you.

It’s worth noting that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will get access to all of the above releases as well. You can also avail of other benefits, like playing The Coalition’s Gears 5 four days earlier than its official launch date. And of course, with Xbox Live Gold included in the plan, you can get a head-start on playing multiplayer as well.

This year has seen a number of tough encounters - let's recount them here.

It’s been a fairly eventful year, full of surprises, excellent games and crushing disappointments. We’ve also had plenty of memorable boss fights, some absolutely wiping the floor with us while others delivered more moderate doses of frustration. Let’s take a look at 15 of the hardest boss fights of 2019 so far.

Kronika – Mortal Kombat 11

In terms of power, Kronika is easily at the top of the pecking order in the Mortal Kombat pantheon. This prowess is reflected in battle as well – Fatal Blows aren’t effective against her (only the initial hit does damage) and she has insane juggles and quick movement. She’s also capable of “rewinding” a fighter with homing projectiles, disorienting and setting them up for more damage. And of course, in terms of disrespect, her endlessly looping Fatality takes the cake.

The highlights of the first half of 2019.

It’s been a wild first six months for 2019. From min blowing remakes to exceptional sequels, from stellar indie hits to AAA releases justifying their massive budgets, from comebacks of beloved franchises to steps in new directions for others, we’ve seen a vast, vast variety of releases this year already- and we’re only just halfway through the year yet.

Looking ahead at the lineup of games awaiting their releases in the coming months, it’s clear that by the time the year is coming to an end, 2019 will have been an exceptional one for gaming. But with half of it having zipped by in a blink, before looking ahead, maybe it’s time to pause and look back. In this feature, we’ll be listing out what have been our fifteen favourite games released in 2019 so far.

Looking at just how massive the pool for selection was for us, we’ll obviously be missing out on quite a few games, so if you notice any omissions you feel deserved a place on this list, sound off in the comments section below. Also, do note that this list is presented in a random order– we’re not ranking these games. It’s not time to do that… just yet.

RESIDENT EVIL 2

Gun to our heads, if we had to pick our Game of the Year right here, right now… well, we still wouldn’t be able to do it, but Resident Evil 2 sure as hell would be one of the games leading that race. Capcom’s survival horror franchise saw a much needed revival in 2017 with Resident Evil 7, but it’s safe to say that with this year’s remake of the beloved 1998 classic, the series is back to being the best it has ever been. Resident Evil 2 strikes the perfect balance between paying loving tribute to an older game, while also being an excellent experience in its own right, and we’re more excited now about the future of this series than we have been in a long, long time.

The card battling roguelite will retail for $24.99 on the eShop.

Mega Crit Games’ Slay the Spire has a release date for Nintendo Switch. The card battling roguelite will be heading to the eShop on June 6th. For those who have wanted a compelling roguelite to play on the go, this is an extremely good option at $24.99.

Slay the Spire sees players choosing from three different classes and progressing through a random series of encounters in the titular spire. Bosses await at the end of each section and you’ll find various Artifacts, buffs, and other items to help in your journey. The real hook is the turn-based combat, which depends entirely on cards, how well they synchronize together, and how (or if) you outplay your opponent.

Slay the Spire first entered development on Steam Early Access for PC and gained a reputation for frequent updates and listening to feedback. It sold over 1.5 million copies on PC and is currently also available for PlayStation 4. Stay tuned for more updates when it’s eventually out for Nintendo Switch.

The rogue-lite card battler arrives on May 21st for the console.

With over 1.5 million units sold on PC, card battler/rogue-lite RPG Slay the Spire from Mega Crit Games is coming to PS4. A new announcement trailer confirmed as much, with pre-orders opening up and providing an exclusive discount along with an avatar set. Slay the Spire releases on May 21st for the console.

If you haven’t followed the game throughout its early access period or following its release on Steam, Slay the Spire is essentially a rogue-lite. You navigate through different floors on a tower, each containing enemies, treasures, items, and artifacts. The core difference is that all attacks, abilities, defense, and whatnot are also done through a deck of cards.

You use a different hand of cards for each turn in a battle and can pick up other cards throughout a certain run. Three classes are available to choose, each with their own unique cards, synergies, and traits. Slay the Spire is also in development for the Nintendo Switch, but no release date has been confirmed yet. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
