Soul Fjord Releasing on January 28th for OUYA: New Dev Diary Focuses on Music

The OUYA may have become a joke considering its lack of support, iffy controller and lack of power – especially in the face of the Xbox One and PS4 – but that’s not stopping Airtight Games. Their next project Soul Fjord, led by Portal and Quantum Conundrum designer Kim Swift, will be launching on January 28th for the OUYA. It will retail for free and include in-app purchases.

Meanwhile, the developer has released a new dev diary which focuses on the soundtrack composed by Austin Wintory. Check it out above, and marvel at how these tunes will jive with the rhythmic rogue game that Airtight has in mind. The game will see you taking on the role of Magnus Jones, a Viking who must dance his way through Ragnarok and save the world in the process.

OUYA Console Available Today, Already Sold Out

The Kickstarter-funded Android console OUYA is now publicly available at select retailers in the US. The console launches with 173 games which include Kim Swift’s Soul Fjord and games from developers such as Double Fine, Sega and more.

The OUYA can be picked up for $99 on Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target with international retailers including Amazon Canada, Amazon UK and GAME also offering to ship the console for foreign consumers.

And the most amazing part? It’s already sold out. On the same day of release. It hasn’t even been 24 hours.

The OUYA comes the console, wireless controller, an HDMI cable, two AA batteries and a power adapter. Each game is available to try out through a free demo, so you can decide if a particular game is suited for you. Soul Fjord is Kim Swift’s OUYA-Exclusive Game – 70’s Norse Funk Dungeon Crawler

Portal and Quantum Conundrum director Kim Swift recently teased that she and her team at Airtight Games were working on an exclusive game for the Android-based OUYA. According to Gematsu (via NeoGAF), that game has officially been revealed as Soul Fjord.

Set in a fantasy universe mixing Norse mythology with 70’s funk and soul culture, you’ll be playing as a viking named Magnus Jones, who has been slain and now finds himself in the nightclub Valhalla, in Yggdrasil. Inexplicably, he’s not on the guest list and won’t be attending the “party that will end the world”, Ragnarok.

With “lounge Dragons” and “disco Wizards” in his path, Jones must fight up to the world tree and gain access to Valhalla.

While being exclusive to the OUYA console, which hasn’t been receiving the most glowing of criticism as of late, might not make sense in the long run, it nonetheless sounds intriguing. Stay tuned for more details.
