PS Vita not so dead after all.

Mostly, it’s fair to say that SCEA has all but given up on the Vita; they ignore it, they don’t market it, they don’t try to procure or develop games for it, and many times, they even seem to actively sabotage it. But every now and then, to the surprise of all, they make a genuine effort with the system. Today was one of those days.

SCEA, you see, confirmed not one, not two, but three exclusives for the Vita releasing in the US– these include Soul Sacrifice Delta, the expanded version of last year’s hit action game Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, another action game that is about to release in Japan soon, and Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, a JRPG. All three games are Sony Japan Studios produced (as they seem to be the only internal Sony studio still making games for the handheld).

Soul Sacrifice Delta will launch first, with a May 13 release date- the release dates for the other two will be announced later.

Still, for the Vita, this is a great boost to its library, especially considering that after its stellar 2013 last year, Nintendo seems to have eased off the pedal with the 3DS this year, giving the Vita a bit of an opening.

It’s been a long time coming but the PlayStation Vita finally managed to outsell the Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan, according to the latest Media Create software sales charts for the week of March 3rd to 9th.

It was aided by the debut of Soul Sacrifice Delta, which sold 48,786 units in its first week. This allowed the Vita to sell 31,325 units this week, versus the 3DS XL’s 24,192 units. Nintendo’s handheld had a pretty significant week though – several of the top selling titles in Japan were on the 3DS, including Yokai Watch (36,018 units), Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Wonderful Mysterious Keys (31,157 units) and Harvest Moon: Tsunagaru Shin Tenchi (29,514 units).

Sales of Yakuza Ishin on the PS4 have fallen out of the top ten while Knack continues to hang on. But the PS4 still managed to top hardware charts at 35,294 units which is a big drop from last week’s 65,685 units. Lifetime sales in Japan are currently estimated to be 410,133 units according to Media Create.

Soul Sacrifice Delta, the enhanced, expanded version of Sony’s PlayStation Vita exclusive hit action game Soul Sacrifice, hits Japan early next year, and at TGS this year, we got to see more than 20 minutes of pure, raw, unedited footage for the upcoming title. Now here’s it all, in its off screen glory, for you to watch and enjoy.

The clips above show both, single player action as well as four player co-op play. The gameplay looks pretty cool, so if you enjoyed the original title, you should like Delta as well.

Soul Sacrifice Delta is a heavily expanded version of the original game. Designed by Keiji Inafune, the man best known for creating Capcom’s mascor Mega Man series. He collaborated with Sony’s Japan studios to create this game. The same studio is not allegedly working on a PlayStation 4 game as well.

Stay tuned for more coverage either way.

Reveals that Soul Sacrifice Delta isn't "a complete sequel".

Soul Sacrifice isn’t a half-bad game, and in fact emerged as one of the better PlayStation Vita exclusives in recent memory. Director Keiji Inafune revealed the so-called sequel, Soul Sacrifice Delta, recently but has stated to IGN that he is open to making more games in the series.

“[Soul Sacrifice Delta] is not a complete sequel. However, it’s not like a 1.5. It’s probably something like a 1.7 or 8,” he continued, laughing. Instead, Delta represents more of a spin on the original, an iteration of what’s already been done. This kind of handheld action game requires a lot of adjustments. So just putting out one or two titles is not going to be enough. We need to put out more and adjust more, put more tuning to it to make [the series] complete.

“So concept-wise, how I’m thinking about it, I want it to go on. If the users support it, if Sony decides to support it, of course I want to keep on making sequels [to Soul Sacrifice].”

Soul Sacrifice Delta will release in March 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

A first look at the Soul Sacrifice Sequel

Yesterday a a new video for the next entry on the PlayStation Vita exclusive series, Soul Sacrifice was released. The sequel, Soul Sacrifice Delta was announced at TGS 2013, and has been slated for a March 2014 release.

In this video we are given the first look at actual footage from the Japanese version of the game. While everything is in Japanese, we are still clearly able to see what we can expect from Soul Sacrifice Delta in terms of graphics and game play.

This action adventure slice and dice looks better than ever, with what seem to be improved upon graphics and new abilities in the wake of its predecessor.

The original Soul Sacrifice was received positively by the gaming world, earning an aggregate score of 77 from Metacritic, the the majority of reviews speaking to the addictive game play mechanics and detailed battle system. Every indication is that we can expect or of the same from Soul Sacrifice Delta.

Coming off of announcing a new PlayStation Vita – the PS Vita 2000 – Keiji Inafune took the stage at Sony’s recent presser to announce Soul Sacrifice Delta for release on the handheld on March 2014. This isn’t a sequel as such; rather, it’s a new version of the recently released hack and slash title with new speels and items, along with a third type of “Neural” experience energy to add to the original’s Sacrifice and Save energies.

It has also been revealed that there will be PvP combat between the three factions in the game and cooperative monster hunting. As of now, the team at Capcom is gathering feedback as to the future of the franchise. Inafune has also revealed that Delta will be playable at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

What are your thoughts on this new “version” of Soul Sacrifice? Will it be worth the wait or worth picking up the game again? Let us know below.
