Sony has quietly pushed back the date for shutdown of servers for some of its games by 90 days.

About a month ago, Sony announced that the servers for several of its games, including Warhawk, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Twisted Metal would be going offline on October 25. For the likes of PS All-Stars and Twisted Metal, that’s a blow, but their campaigns can still be played offline. For something like Warhawk, however, which is entirely an online experience, that renders the entire game unplayable.

However, they now seem to have silently pushed back the date for the shutdown of these servers, as well as for Sound Shapes, which was also due to get its servers shut down, by 90 days. Servers for all four of these games will now be shut down on January 31, 2019.

Sony has sent out an email that notifies players of the same (via Reddit). Meanwhile, the PS Store pages for Twisted Metal, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Warhawk, and Sound Shapes have also been updated to reflect this change, and all mention that their multiplayer and online features will become unavailable on January 31, 2019.

Following that date, Sound Shapes, PS All-Stars, and Twisted Metal’s single player components, local co-op, and splitscreen will still be playable, but their online functionality will become unavailable. Warhawk will be unplayable entirely, unless your PS3 is set to LAN mode for local network play, of course.

Sony’s Best of PlayStation Network compilation aims to bring the exclusive digital downloadable games of PSN to gamers without high-speed internet access. Now, the first volume of this compilation has been announced on the official PlayStation blog for release on June 25th.

It includes four PSN-exclusive titles such as When Vikings Attack, Fat Princess, Tokyo Jungle and Sound Shapes, some of which have become associated with the PlayStation brand since their release (read: Fat Princess in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale). Of course, others like Sound Shapes have been critically acclaimed for their gameplay and are alone worth the price of admission.

If any single game in the collection entices you, the Best of PlayStation Network Vol. 1 disc will be available for $39.99. Which is apparently a good $15 off what you’d have to pay to get it on the PlayStation Network. Certainly a good deal, if not a suspicious enough ploy for exercise.

Adds a slew of the best user created levels.

A new update for Sound Shapes has just hit the ground, and brings with it a slew of notable additions. The patch finally allows players to play the game offline instead of constantly being connected to the servers.

In addition to that, the developers have included what they call “Community Milkcrate”, which includes user created levels hand picked by the developer among the best the community has to offer. It consists of 35 levels sorted out into six albums, each with its own theme and are presented with a brand new interface.

And finally, Car Mini-Album & Creator Pack DLC is now up for grabs. It includes several new campaign levels, a full Sound Pack, brand new editor entities, Beat School lessons, some new trophies, and also a brand new vehicle which should drastically spice up the gameplay with its exhilarating speed.

The Offline Play option and Community Milkcrate are included for free in the update, while the DLC pack will set you back $1.99. You can check out the trailer for it below.

Incredible display of creativity.

The Playstation Vita needs killer apps to compete in the marketplace against the 3DS, mobile devices and everything else ever invented, but considering Sony’s slow release schedule so far, it’s sort of struggling to make a mark with decent sales. Why this introduction? Because it does have a killed app now in the name of Sound Shapes–an innovate music rhythm game that is not only addictive to play but quite stunning to look at as well.

It’s a sort of game that will reel you into its world through specific tunes that you get to construct in real-time. You can collect things in the level that makes the beat more impressive or just run through the entire stage without collecting anything and just platforming your hearts content.

You control a ball that can stick to environments making your navigation through a level easier. You also have the ability to roll off any object without sticking and combining both abilities is vital to complete a level easily. There are hazards that will make you respawn once you touch them, so controlling the ball efficiently is vital.

There are no floaty controls like Little Big Planet, so it’s not trial and error here when it comes to testing out your platforming skills. The controls are very responsive and you won’t really find any issue executing difficult or fast moves. However, going fast through the level may result in missing vital collectibles which makes the level even more pleasant sounding than you started. It does not require any skill from you to form an impressive beat however, so missing a lot of collectibles doesn’t have a big penalty.

The level design is amazing with 2D environments and cleverly designed traps meant to impede your progress. The visual quality is amazing and each level possess varied colours and is quite stunning to look at. This is a game where technical proficient doesn’t matter at all. It manages to look good purely on the art design, which is quite commendable. The game is available for the PS3 as well and it’s part of the cross-buy feature where you pay just once and get both PS3 and Vita versions.

Having played this on the Vita, the OLED screen does wonders to the entire graphics, and it really is a fantastic experience playing on the handheld. The touchscreen is quite responsive as well, and over all, the production values are incredible. I would recommend playing this on the Vita rather than the PS3, but if you want to continue on the PS3, you can do that as well.

There are a lot of optional challenges here which count toward the 100% completion. This is the most easiest platinum trophy yet, and does not require you to do something extraordinary to get it. Of course, I don’t really care about trophies any more, but it’s a good incentive to people who are looking to beef up their level. Sound Shapes manages to impress with its content, which can last 2-3 hours for the main story, which is divided into 5 albums and contains 20 odd levels.

It’s the quality that matters though. It’s not at all expensive considering you get both version and you can also build things here for others to try out, and early on in the game, you are taught how to create a level yourself. It’s quite straightforward and requires very limited effort to create mind bending levels and all the tools available are accessible to anyone who plays the game.

Sound Shapes has impressed me a lot and it’s one of the best PS3/Vita games to have been released this year. The Vita may not boast a lot of killer software at this stage in its lifecycle but you better buy one for this game. It’s worth it.

This game was reviewed on the PS Vita.

Steve Wilson, level artist with Pyramid Attack, discusses the process of infusing music with art, and that same art with gameplay, besides setting a new aesthetic standard.

As I attended a Sony event there was much to see there including Playstation 3 titles that have yet to be released and a couple of PS Vita Games. One of them was Uncharted: Golden Abyss which by now as impressive as it is, I know the demo like the back of my hand. The other title was Sound Shapes and was a very unique game to be launching for the PS Vita. It is a rhythm game where graphics and visuals are not what make the game good as they may have added to it, the core lays within the gameplay.

The game can almost be compared to the Patapon series for Sony PSP’s and Playstation 3’s. There is still much difference between the two as Sound Shapes can be seen a musical instrument but at its heart it is a classic 2D platformer. You move along as let’s say a cube and each shape you touch or jump onto creates a different sound that adds to a musical track being constructed as you progress through the level. Ultimately the more you progress the more intricate the song will be. What is cool is that the musical track or level is unique to you, because any shapes missed along the way also effect the outcome of the song as that sound will not be in the track truly making thins and original experience.

When I mentioned the game being a musical instrument before it was because you can go into a creation mode and make your own level, but you are really making you’re own song. You can use the touch pad in very creative ways to construct you’re level, adding different sounds in as shapes of all kinds as well as different sizes. Impressively almost all musical instruments can be used in the game to create songs and levels. This also makes for some already loaded levels in the game very complex and varying in range from genre. People can create songs and from the above trailer seemingly shows them being shared them with others, leaving plenty of content for the game. The game also takes advantage of the back touch pad and all in all can become quite a complex game when creating levels or playing levels someone has created.
