The PS Vita was a handheld that was far ahead of its time. It tried doing the whole console gaming on the go thing that the Switch is now pulling off with great success all the way back in 2011- but technology wasn’t ready for such a thing to be expected properly back then, and the Vita’s promise was never fulfilled.

Arguably the bigger problem than that, though,  was Sony’s total apathy towards the system. They put it on the market, didn’t bother to market it much, rarely supported it with major games (and the games they put on it, they brought over to the PS4 the first chance they got), and publicly buried the system’s prospects by announcing that they were done with it just a few years after it had released.

For all purposes, then, the Vita has been dead for years now, unless you live in Japan, or in some of the PAL markets where it managed to carve a niche for itself as a cheap system for kids; in one of the latter, however, it is also now officially dead. PlayStation Spain confirmed on Twitter today that the PS Vita has been discontinued in the territory. What’s amusing (and sad) is that it might actually have been discontinued a while ago (an exact date wasn’t specified), and this was just the first time someone noticed.

RIP PS Vita. You were a great handheld, but your parents didn’t really care for you.

The Nintendo Switch has been breaking and setting new sales records in countries around the world, hitting milestones like there is no tomorrow. And now, it has managed another hugely impressive feat- in Spain, the Switch, which is the fastest selling system there of all time, has managed to outsell Xbox One’s entire lifetime sales in the country. This is especially impressive, because the Switch has not even been on the market for a full year at this point.

The Xbox One’s lifetime sales figures in Spain over the four years it has been on the market are at around 300,000 units- Switch is already over that. This is stupendous performance by Nintendo, especially considering Spain isn’t even that big a market to begin with.

In other news, Sony’s PS4 has managed to outsell the 3DS as well in Spain, becoming the highest selling system of the generation in the country. So, between the PS4 and the Switch, it sounds like console gaming is doing swimmingly in Spain.

Playmania, a popular Spanish Magazine has given Uncharted 3 a 9.9. Now, this is an extremely high score because they don’t usually rate games so high. They gave Red Dead Redemption a 9.8 and that turned out to be a kick ass game. Unfortunately, we can’t post the magazine scans here.

The magazine also gave Uncharted 2 a 9.5, so the sequel, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is actually a huge improvement if the scoring is concerned. The magazine embargo’s are up tomorrow so we will see more scores trickle in.
