Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness is almost here in western territories, so Square Enix decided to show us more of it in the form of a launch trailer, right in the middle of E3. Hey, this is when all sorts of games drop new media on us, so it works just fine.

The game looks fine, albeit a bit low budget. The graphics look distinctly like a mid tier PS3, and I have to admit that the voice acting and localization are terrible, from what I gather. But series fans are probably in the game for the gameplay, and just so they can have more Star Ocean, and I guess they are willing to make peace with the grating voiceovers and cheap feeling the game seems to have.

Square Enix’s upcoming Star Ocean 5 has excited fans for a while now, thanks to the tantalizing prospect that it presents- that it somehow might represent a return to form for the beleaguered franchise, restoring it to glory after Star Ocean 4 dispensed just about any goodwill that the series may have had.

Those fans will be excited to see this new gameplay footage for the title- naturally, this footage means we can now actually see more of the game itself, and that is great, but it also shows us the title’s combat systems, as well as party members. The combat and party both look great, though of course, it’s hard to tell whether these mechanics are going to be deep enough to sustain a JRPG on their own.

Star Ocean 5:integrity and Faithlessness is already available in Japan on the PlayStation 4, with a PlayStation 3 version planned for later. In the west, the game will be launching shortly, and exclusively on the PS4.

A new trailer for Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, the fifth entry in the long running RPG franchise, is all set to launch on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 soon- and ahead of its release, Square Enix have released new trailers for the title.

One of these trailers is a story trailer, which gives us a look at what we can expect from this game’s narrative (hopefully something better than the junk that was the story of Star Ocean 4). The other two trailers are character trailers, introducing players to Fidel Camuze and Miki Sauvester. You can check out all three of these trailers for yourself below.

Star Ocean 5 is confirmed to be getting a western release. The western release will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4, and will feature English voice acting (though it will include the Japanese VOs as well, for players who would like a purer experience). Stay tuned for more coverage on the game.

For instance, take this brand new trailer of the game, which introduces us to the character of Brunelli, a 25 year old woman with all the fashion sense and hair style of the traditional tropey Japanese anime character.

That sounds probably sounds cringeworthy to a lot of you, but to Star Ocean fans, this is exactly what they wanted.

Square Enix’s Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness looks to be what fans hope will be a triumphant return to form for the franchise. Everything we’ve seen of the game so far seems to be something that will be right up the fans’ alley- even if onlookers on the outside are confused about just exactly what the fuss may be.

That continues with this new trailer, that will really endear fans to this new, upcoming game- and will do so in glorious 1080p and 60 frames per second! Truly, we are blessed to have a trailer that doesn’t compromise on these things.

Seriously, though, the trailer looks pretty good, and it also spends some time introducing the game’s protagonist. If this is a title you are planning on buying, then this new video will probably get you excited.

Star Ocean 5 launches in Japan on the PS3 and PS4 in March, and later this year in the west, exclusively on the PS4.

Square Enix have just given us another look at the upcoming Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, which is due to launch at least in Japan some time next year for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Star Ocean 5 is the next entry in the long running RPG saga- the last two entries are usually considered to be fairly disappointing by fans of the series, so hopefully this fifth one returns to the kind of quality that the first two games used to exhibit back in the day.

Star Ocean 5 is set to launch some time next year for the PS3 and PS4- Square Enix has also confirmed a western launch for the game in 2o16, though that may not yet be set in stone, given how localization of games usually goes.

Square Enix’s Tokyo Game Show lineup for this year has been revealed and it includes, well, a distinct lack of Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 15. But don’t panic just yet.

This is a preliminary roster though so expect more announcements as the show nears closer. Thus far, we can expect Dragon Quest Builders (special program), Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (battle challenge) and Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness which will be playable. Of these, two of those games are yet to be released and look intriguing. They’re all expected on PlayStation platforms and PC which is pretty much expected given the audience in Japan.

Square Enix had a decent E3 showing and although it was no way close to what Sony, Microsoft and Bethesda showcased in their respective presentations, Square Enix made me believe that they still care about the JRPG market. One of the big JRPGs that is coming from Square Enix is Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. The game will be an exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and will not be receiving a launch for the Xbox One and PC.

In an interview with Gamesbeat, producer Shuichi Kobayashi explained why the game will probably remain a PlayStation 4 exclusive. “In Japan the game is for PS3 and PS4. Xbox and PC aren’t in our plans at the moment. That’s for two reasons. As you may know, technically speaking, it’s a challenge to create the same game for PS3 and Xbox One. Also, when we did a survey about the PS4 release, there are more PlayStation gamers enjoying these kinds of games. We wanted to make this game primarily for the people who are eagerly awaiting a sequel.” Curiously, the last bit makes a ton of sense since the PlayStation has been traditionally known to cater RPG fans. However, in the case of current generation of consoles that statement may not longer hold true.

Kobayashi also explained they will be pushing for 60 frames per second in the final version and Tri-Ace are working hard to achieve the same. “I wanted to underline that because in this development environment, 30 was the best that we could do. But eventually — we wanted to assure our users that it will be very smooth. Tri-Ace was very keen to achieve 60 frames per second. That’s very important to us.”

Given that it’s a role playing game, having 60 frames per second will be a nice to have. But I would rather have them aim for higher graphical fidelity rather than 60fps.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness does not have a release date yet.

Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness was next up at Square Enix’s E3 2015 conference and after a short primer on the game’s setting, we got a look at the locations, visuals and combat.

The gameplay in Star Ocean 4 appears to follow a real-time system with some turn-based elements for abilities and spells. The locations themselves look pretty good but nothing extraordinary. If it feels old-school, that’s because Square Enix intends it to be that way. The transition from battles to traveling will be seamless and that will be the theme of Star Ocean 4. You’ll still see some static cut-scenes though in order to preserve some of the game’s rhythm.

To everyone’s surprise, Square Enix recently announced Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness; to even more surprise, they announced this not for iOS or Android, but rather, for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. If you had resigned yourself, however, to a bit of a wait before you learned more about the game, you’re in luck- Square Enix seems to be teasing that the game will be at E3 at their press conference this year, Gematsu reports.

“This year is really busy as we’re turning towards the game show,” Star Ocean 5  character designer Akira “Akiman” Yasuda said in a tweet. “It’s busy, but it’s been terribly long [since we were last at a game show].” In a second tweet, he added, “By the way, we are preparing images for use at E3.”

He seems to be hinting that the game will be shown off at E3 in some capacity- whether or not that is a full fledged trailer, or just a passing mention, remains to be seen. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more E3 related coverage.
