Each with their own physics, projectiles and AI. For real.

If you’ve ever wondered about the power of the next generation Nitrous Engine – developed by the recently formed Oxide Games – you need look no further than a demo running on the same. Star Swarm consists of several thousands of units, each with their own AI and physics running dynamically in deep space combat. Check it out above.

This is meant as a showcase for the Nitrous Engine’s sheer power, with Oxide looking to render large, complex scenes with ease on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The above demo runs on AMD’s Mantle and takes advantage of parallel processing among the CPU’s cores. It’s also revealed that there are three games currently in development which run Nitrous and will be available to download on Steam.

Even the projectiles and lasers are individual with their own physics. While it slows down with motion blur enabled, it’s still an incredible display of object space rendering which is usually seen in big-budget CG films (only rendered in real-time).
