Star Wars First Assault was going to be a multiplayer Star Wars shooter, in development at LucasArts, to be used as a sort of testbed for the bigger Star Wars shooter that they would follow it up with- Star Wars Battlefront 3. Both games were ultimately canned, but while Battlefront 3 morphed into just Star Wars Battlefront, which is launching later this month, First Assault faded away into obscurity.

However now, Reddit user SumB1tchRaptor has pulled footage from a tech beta and posted it over on Reddit. The beta, he says, only contains the level you see in the video. Since it was a technical test, the player said he was unable to “spawn bots or add another player.”

It is a little saddening to see footage of all of these games that were under development at LucasArts- undoubtedly, Disney’s greatest sin when they took over the Star Wars brand was their gutting of LucasArts, and all of their projects.

But more interestingly, according to those who know the project, if First Assault sold well – assuming it isn’t going to be released any time soon – then it won’t be long before we see the eagerly requested Star Wars: Battlefront 3. OF course, considering the fact that even projects like Star Wars 1313 are in limbo, it’s hard to tell.

In fact, the Star Wars franchise seems pretty empty right now aside from the new movies slated to release in the coming years under Disney. The company recently announced that there would be no new Clone Wars episodes on Cartoon Network. Here’s hoping the coming months are brighter for Star Wars fans.
