Salt and Sacrifice

Set against the backdrop of a high-fantasy world, this follow-up to the 2016 release Salt and Sanctuary is a more fleshed-out take on FromSoftware’s classics like Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls. In addition to brutal difficulty and gargantuan bosses, Salt and Sacrifice will also feature a healthy assortment of multiplayer options – from summoning other players to engaging in PvP to invading other players’ worlds. In all honesty, it’s Dark Souls – but in 2D.

Starfield

Easily one of the most highly-anticipated games on this list, Starfield is the first new IP from Bethesda Softworks in over 25 years. Fans are naturally more than excited to delve deep into this world and explore every nook and cranny in search of secrets, better gear, and what have you. We haven’t seen any gameplay as of yet, but if Bethesda’s track record is anything to go by – it should end up being a solid experience that’s worthy of its inspirations.

The second title is a brand new first-person shooter helmed by game director Peter Hirschmann, for which work has just begun. Hirschmann previously worked as executive producer on the original Star Wars Battlefront titles and also as VP of development at LucasArts. “Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell.”

The third title is being developed along with the newly formed Bit Reactor which is led by Greg Foerscth (who previously worked as art director for XCOM 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown). It will be a new strategy game that Bit Reactor is leading development on.  Respawn founder and Group GM Vince Zampella will be overseeing “this new phase of EA’s relationship with Lucasfilm, building on Respawn’s award-winning history in game development and expertise in telling compelling Star Wars stories.”

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly stated that, “We are excited to continue working with the superbly talented developers at Respawn. They have demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far away.”

Walt Disney Games SVP Sean Shoptaw added that, “Building on the previous successes of our EA relationship, this new collaboration highlights the trust and mutual respect shared between the world-class teams at EA, Respawn and Lucasfilm Games. Fostered by the expertise and passion within each team, we will create thrilling original games for diverse audiences across the Star Wars galaxy.”

Though a reveal date for these titles has yet to be confirmed, we could learn more before E3 2022 (most likely on May 4th, which is a yearly celebration of the Star Wars franchise). As for the next Star Wars Jedi title, it’s rumored to be releasing in Q4 2022. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Recently, reports claimed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 would be revealed before June, with a launch planned for either later this year or early next year. Now, known insider and journalist Tom Henderson has followed up on and corroborated that leak, claiming that “things are set in motion” for the the reveal of the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, and that the game is expected to launch in Q4 of this year.

That would mean a three-year gap between the first game and its successor- though of course, in the COVID era, you can never be too sure that a game will launch as planned. Either way, it seems like it will be revealed in the coming months, so we should know more then.

So let’s take a look at 15 big games rumored to be in development. Remember to take all of these with a grain of salt, even if they’re from respectable sources, sit back and have fun.

Silent Hill Reboots

The Silent Hill reboot saga has only gotten stranger in the past year or so. Originally, rumors claimed that Konami was working with SIE Japan Studio on a reboot that would be exclusive to the PS5. With the lack of announcements or updates, however, it felt like a pipe dream. This past February, developer Bloober Team spoke about how they’d been developing a horror game for more than a year “with a very famous gaming publisher.” VideoGamesChronicle reported that Konami had been shopping the franchise around over the years and that a prominent Japanese developer is currently working on a reboot. This doesn’t mean Bloober Team isn’t working on its own Silent Hill but having two reboots isn’t entirely out of the question. As for the first title, a reveal is apparently coming this Summer so there’s that to look forward to.
