While Starbreeze hasn't yet made any official announcement, word of the lay-offs got out thanks to employees taking to social media.

Payday 3 developer Starbreeze has seemingly gone through a round of lay-offs. While the studio hasn’t officially announced it, some of its former employees revealed they were let go on LinkedIn. These include Alexander Pereswetoff-Morath, who worked at the company’s QA department, and Sabina af Jochnick, who was a senior tech producer.

Owing to the lack of any official announcement from Starbreeze itself, it is currently unknown how many employees have been affected by this round of lay-offs, aside from Pereswetoff-Morath referring to the number as “many of us”.

“Today, many of us at Starbreeze, Stockholm, got sad news, and I’m now seeking a new role and would appreciate your support,” wrote Pereswetoff-Morath on LinkedIn. “If you hear of any opportunities or just want to catch up, please send me a message or comment below. I’d love to reconnect. That may be quite template-y, but it’s still true. After over 7 years, the longest I’ve ever been at any company in any industry, my time has (more than likely) come.”

af Jochnick noted, these lay-offs were recent, with her own role in the company “at risk of redundancy.” “Due to the recent layoffs at Starbreeze, my role has been identified as at risk of redundancy, so I’m beginning to look at what’s next,” she wrote.

The studio behind Payday 3 has seen several issues, especially since the co-op shooter’s release and poor reception. Back in May 2025, it had announced that it had fully acquired the publishing rights for the game from former publisher Plaion. At the time, Starbreeze board member Thomas Lindgren had said that this transaction would enable the studio to accelerate its planned content roadmap.

“This agreement enables Starbreeze to fully acquire the publishing rights to Payday 3 from Plaion, significantly accelerate our content development roadmap, and pursue broader strategic opportunities for the Payday franchise as a whole,” said Lindgren. “We appreciate Plaion’s support, which underscores their confidence in Starbreeze’s future and strengthens our strategic alignment with major global industry players.”

In October, however, general manager Jonas Skantz and community manager Elisabeth Elvestad had announced that the studio had stopped working on an offline mode for Payday 3. They referred to the feature as “not feasible” due to the size of the team and its priorities on more important things.

In October, Starbreeze had also announced that it had handed over development of Payday 2 to Sidetrack Games, who will continue to support its PC version. The latter studio emerged from the modding community for Payday titles, with its employees having worked on games like RAID: World War 2. Since the hand-off, the developers’ main focus has been on stability and general improvements for Payday 2.

Thanks to its attention no longer being split between two games, Starbreeze has also noted that it intends to “maintain full focus on Payday 3, while Payday 2 continues to deliver value for all players with the dedicated expert support they deserve.”

Payday 3 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Check out our thoughts on the fall of Payday 3 for more details.

With Sidetrack Games handling updates for Payday 2, Starbreeze has said that it can "maintain full focus" on the development of Payday 3.

The issues faced by Starbreeze Studios over co-op shooter Payday 3 have been no secret. A recent announcement by the developer indicates that it plans on going all-in on supporting the title with updates, and to have more time and workforce for this, it is handing over development of the previous entry – Payday 2 – to another studio. In its announcement, Starbreeze Studios has announced that Sidetrack Games will continue supporting the PC version of Payday 2.

The studio originated out of the modding community for the Payday games, and have previously worked on titles like RAID: World War 2. Starbreeze Studios has praised Sidetrack Games’ ability to offer post-launch support for titles over a long period of time, as well as the fact that the team is already familiar with the engine powering Payday 2.

“Sidetrack (formerly known as the M.U.G. Team) is a talented team with deep roots in the Payday modding community,” said Starbreeze in its announcement. “Their work on RAID: World War II showed that they have the skill and perseverance to deliver quality updates over a long time. They know the Payday 2 engine inside and out, and they’ve already gotten started.”

The first update as part of this hand-off is slated for release on October 23, and will focus on stability and general improvements for Payday 2. More precise details about the update will likely become more available as part of a larger set of patch notes alongside the update itself.

As a result of this move, Starbreeze Studios has stated that it intends to “maintain full focus on Payday 3, while Payday 2 continues to deliver value for all players with the dedicated expert support they deserve.”

The announcement comes a few months after Starbreeze Studios announced that it had fully acquired the publishing rights for Payday 3 from Plaion. According to its announcement from back in May, the transaction involved a directed share issue of over 147 million of its class be shares valued at SEK 33 million, which in turn were picked up by Embracer Group for SEK 0.2235 per share. The studio had said at the time that its acquisition of the publishing rights for Payday 3 would allow it more freedom to accelerate its development roadmap for the title.

“This agreement enables Starbreeze to fully acquire the publishing rights to Payday 3 from Plaion, significantly accelerate our content development roadmap, and pursue broader strategic opportunities for the Payday franchise as a whole,” said studio board member Thomas Lindgren. “We appreciate Plaion’s support, which underscores their confidence in Starbreeze’ future and strengthens our strategic alignment with major global industry players.”

More recently, Starbreeze Studios had also announced that it was halting development of the much-requested offline mode for Payday 3, with community manager Elisabeth Elvestad and general manager Jonas Skantz referring to the feature as “not feasible”.

“So, offline mode. Let’s talk about that,” they said in a livestream. “I know that the team had good intentions with that, definitely. And they have been trying to make it happen, but I think we have to face the reality that it is not feasible for where we are going with the game.”

Payday 3 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For more details, check out our thoughts on the fall of Payday 3.

The long-awaited feature isn't "feasible" for where Starbreeze is currently going with the game, says general manager Jonas Skantz.

While much of the week saw Microsoft bearing the brunt of criticism for its Game Pass changes, Starbreeze also made headlines for canceling Project Baxter. The co-op Dungeons and Dragons title is no longer in active development, with employees redirected to commit to Payday’s future (those who weren’t laid off, that is).

However, that doesn’t mean Payday 3 will be receiving one of its most-requested features: Offline mode. General manager Jonas Skantz and community manager Elisabeth Elvestad addressed this in a recent stream (transcription via WCCF Tech), with the former confirming that it’s “not feasible.”

“So, offline mode. Let’s talk about that. I know that the team had good intentions with that, definitely. And they have been trying to make it happen, but I think we have to face the reality that it is not feasible for where we are going with the game.

“I’ll explain what I mean. First of all, we have a finite number of people. We want to ensure that they work on the most valuable things for the game; these are the things that we will talk about: progression, core loops and so on. More importantly, we have an updated model where it takes us weeks to get a client update out. This is a bit technical; it means that if we discover today that, ‘hey, this value is wrong,’ it takes us a very long time to fix that. That’s not because we are slow, it’s just because updating the first-party and so on takes weeks.”

The part about having a “finite number of people” is odd, considering the recent lay-offs. However, the team ultimately wants to move to a model where it can “work with the community and make sure that we can update things fast, and to do that, we need to update things from the backend. We need to be able to tweak the game from the backend to ensure we can get things out faster.

“If we can get at things more early, and have the confidence that we can change it, then that would give us much more speed. It would also bring more meaning to player feedback. That doesn’t mean that we are not doing things to improve online, but that’s what makes it not feasible to do.”

While this is all well and good, Payday 3 continues to struggle in play numbers compared to its predecessor. Its recent 24-hour peak on Steam is a measly 2,123 concurrent players, while Payday 2 hit 29,702 concurrent players. And that’s with the latter suffering its own controversies with the Infamous Collection seeing a price increase and a new subscription service for all DLC.

Things continue to go from bad to worst for the failed multiplayer first-person shooter, with Starbreeze lowering its investments into its post-launch plans.

Payday 3 has been nothing short of a disaster for developer Starbreeze Studios. As big of a success as its predecessor was, since its launch last year, the multiplayer shooter has consistently been on the receiving end of criticism from its ever-dwindling player base. Starbreeze itself has stated repeatedly that Payday 3 has been performing below the company’s internal expectations– and that continued underperformance is now yielding predictable consequences.

In its recently published quarterly fiscal report, the developer has announced its plans to “significantly” decrease investment in Payday 3 and its post-launch plans, which doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in the game’s future.

“The level of investment during Payday 3’s first year on the market, both through launched DLCs and Operation Medic Bag, has been at an elevated level,” Starbreeze says. “Ahead of year two, we are confident in being able to continue delivering amounts of value to our players with a significantly lower level of investment.”

Payday 3 has failed to maintain a healthy player base since its release, so Starbreeze’s decision to pull back support for the shooter doesn’t come as a complete surprise, though it should be interesting to see what this means for the studio’s long-term plans for the game, and for the Payday franchise in general.

Payday 3 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Starbreeze Studios is celebrating the first anniversary of its co-op heist shooter Payday 3. It’s released the Year 1 Edition, including the base game, free updates and paid expansions into a single bundle. Check the launch trailer below.

Each contains a heist, weapon pack, and tailor pack. You also get five “Compensation Packs”, which include cosmetics and weapons, and even more cosmetics as bonus content.

If you own the Gold or Collector’s Editions, then the Year 1 Edition is a free upgrade. Base game and Silver Edition owners must purchase the Year 1 Pass.

Payday 3 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review of the launch version here. It received significant backlash at launch and after for its always-online requirements, technical issues, and changes. However, Starbreeze has released multiple updates to address the same, including Solo mode.

Offline mode will still come later this year, but the Solo Mode Beta will allow players to bypass matchmaking when it launches.

After launching nearly a year without solo play, Starbreeze’s Payday 3 will finally receive a Solo Mode Beta on June 27th. Launching alongside the Boys in Blue update, this is the predecessor to an offline mode coming later this year. Check out the Developer Update video below.

Solo Mode essentially forgoes the matchmaking step, with parts of the game now running on the player’s platform instead of through the developer’s servers. As such, you’ll still need to be online to access the mode and update your progress accordingly.

As head of community and global brand director Almir Listo noted (transcription via IGN), the Solo Mode Beta is not “our full vision for this feature. For now, we’re setting it as a beta to see how it runs. We expect the performance to be affected since the parts normally frontloaded by our servers will now have to be run on your own hardware.” For now, the development, the developer wants to “test that the features that went into this work properly.”

The upcoming update also features a new playable character in Clover, two new weapons, three Masks, 12 Flag Sticks, and a Charm to play around with. It also adds support for Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and loadout renaming. Stay tuned for more details when the Boys in Blue update arrives tomorrow.

Starbreeze Studios' Syndicate was a commercial failure, but the experience of playing it tells a completely different story.

The first-person shooter genre continues to enjoy mainstream popularity ever since the original Quake and Duke Nukem hit the seams back in the ’90s, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Over the years, fans have been treated to plenty of varied experiences ranging from military shooters to tactical shooters and whatnot, but there are also plenty of great games that most players missed out on for some reason or another.

Today, we will be taking a look at Starbreeze Studios’ 2012 release Syndicate which definitely falls under this category of games that slipped under the radar for most fans. Syndicate was subject to divisive critical reception which led to underperforming sales and eventually deemed the game a disappointing release – but that’s not indicative of the entire story. Sure, Syndicate does have plenty of rough edges that we will be talking about – but it also has plenty of merits that are worth discussing.

Syndicate takes place in the year 2069 and paints a dystopian yet familiar vision of the future where megacorporations rule the world and huge cities are filled with towering skyscrapers and bustling air traffic. The narrative here revolves around a peculiar data chip that enables users to access any information available across a massive databank and those who choose to use the chip fall under the indirect influence of these megacorps. As a mercenary for hire, it’s up to you to put an end to these digital shenanigans by whatever means necessary, and that leads our protagonist Miles Kilo down a path lined with conspiracies and plot twists.

The story isn’t anything special, but the characters are well-written and well performed which makes for a pretty entertaining ride through and through. And despite the familiarity of it all, Syndicate’s representation of a cyberpunk future looks visually appealing with great art direction evident across its environments. The team makes heavy use of bloom in the visuals which was one of the major points of criticism when it was released, but that also lends a rather distinct sense of visual identity to the game. The game has a pretty clean visual aesthetic overall that surprisingly holds up well to this date, though some of it could be credited to the high-resolution textures and gorgeous lighting effects that are used to render its maps.

But much of what makes Syndicate so great stems from the gameplay side of it all. You see, Syndicate was actually a real-time strategy game that came out back in 1993, and the 2012 FPS serves as a spiritual successor to that title. Translating those elements into a completely different genre is obviously a pretty tough task, but Starbreeze Studios has done a commendable job of handling that transition. On a surface level, Syndicate’s first-person shooting mechanics look like a pretty standard affair – you can run, jump, slide, and hide behind cover as you clear out rooms filled with enemies. But as you start to really dig into the game, you will come to realize that Syndicate has quite a bit more to offer than just shooting dudes in the face.

The protagonist has a DART chip infused in his head that enables you to perform different kinds of special moves on your enemies. You could hack an enemy’s operating systems and cause their weapons to malfunction, lose control, and temporarily serve as your ally, or just straight up shooting themselves in the face for an easy kill. It’s not much in terms of the numbers themselves but using these abilities smartly in a tactical fashion while actively seeking out cover can make for some really engaging firefights.

It also helps that the enemy variety here continuously forces you to keep changing your strategy and remain quick-witted to ensure chances of survival. The game often throws in heavier armored units with lighter cannon fodder enemies which can quickly down you in a matter of few hits forcing you to use the aforementioned utilities in smart ways to clear out rooms of enemies without getting obliterated by the opposition.

Syndicate’s variety of weapons is also something that helps in adding depth to these firefights. Unlike many shooters of the time where almost every firearm can be used to great effect in any situation, Syndicate’s offerings of weapons demand that players use them with intention to ensure maximum effectiveness. Furthermore, you could also fit these weapons with different attachments and upgrades that can sometimes even change the functionality in a drastic manner.

You also get the occasional mini gun with unlimited ammunition to decimate entire rooms of enemies without breaking a sweat, and that makes for some really interesting sections that deliver an unmatchable sense of power fantasy. In addition to this, there are also more than a couple of boss fights with augmented soldiers peppered throughout the campaign, and while they might not be the toughest fights in all of gaming – they definitely serve the purpose of adding some much-needed variety to the experience.

One of the more interesting things about Syndicate is that it’s a largely animation-driven game that adds a rather refreshing sense of realism and tangible heft to every movement that the player makes. Just notice how the placement of your weapon subtly changes as you hide behind different pieces of cover, and how it all functions when you lean over and shoot. Animations rarely break, and transitions happen pretty smoothly which looks very pleasing to the eye. Many of these ideas and concepts can be traced back to Starbreeze’s prior works like The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, but Syndicate improves on these aspects by a significant margin which makes for a very endearing gameplay experience.

And who can forget the co-op campaign? Syndicate also features a co-op campaign where up to four players can drop in and complete more than a handful of missions with increasing enemy presence. Players are also free to choose between different character classes that each come with their own strengths and weaknesses, which forces you to play off each others’ strengths to have a shot at success. It’s a pretty fun game mode that serves as a great hook to keep you coming back time and time again once you are done with the solo campaign.

To say that Syndicate is a flawless game would be a massive overstatement. There are definitely quite a few things that the developers could have improved on. For instance, the animation-driven gameplay has some downsides that it doesn’t feel as responsive as contemporaries like Killzone or Overwatch, the enemies can feel like bullet sponges at times as some stronger variants can eat up entire magazines without going down, and certain stretches of the story can feel somewhat boring and uneventful.

But despite those flaws, Syndicate is a game that manages to deliver a consistently engaging and quality experience throughout its run. It’s not a misunderstood masterpiece by any means, but it definitely stands out amongst other shooters of its time mostly due to the fact that encounters and shooting generally have some level of depth and variety that many of its peers lacked. Sure, it might not have the constant onslaught of high-intensity set-piece moments – but that tradeoff is worth it for the added mechanical complexity. If Syndicate is something that you never tried, you should definitely give it a shot and there’s a good chance that you might end up being genuinely surprised.

From a hyped sequel to a title that barely averages 1,000 players daily on Steam - how did Payday 3 fall so far in such a short period?

Dearly beloved, we are here today to mourn the death of Payday 3. Developed by Starbreeze Studios and launched in September 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, Payday 3… What’s that you say? The game isn’t dead? We thought the same at first, until quickly peering at the Steam charts. From a peak concurrent player count of 77,938 on September 21st, the day of launch, to a 24-hour peak of 302, the player base for the co-op heist shooter is almost non-existent.

While you can’t see the player numbers on Xbox or PlayStation, the most played games list on the former doesn’t have Payday 3 anywhere among the top 49 titles, despite being on Game Pass. It’s stiff competition compared to the sheer number of other high-profile enjoyable games. However, a sequel to one of the most successful co-op titles of all time, with its predecessor selling over 40 million copies as of January 2023, should be somewhere.

At the very least, its predecessor shouldn’t beat its player counts. It has a 24-hour peak concurrent player count of 29,150, which is on the lower end – the past six months have seen it peak as high as 55,666 players. For a title over ten years old? Not bad. For its sequel that launched a little over six months ago? Beyond worrying.

If it wasn’t obvious enough that Payday 3 is dead in the water, Starbreeze recently removed its CEO and replaced him with board member Juergen Goeldner. The search is on for a permanent option. However, for now, the chairman said the company “has a clear strategy centered around creating attractive games on our own and licensed IPs” and that “the execution of strategy needs a different leadership.”

That’s a nice way of saying the strategy under the previous CEO isn’t working and that it’s time for a change. Whether Starbreeze can execute on the same or not and bring Payday 3 back to life, you have to ask: Where did it all go wrong? How did one of the most hyped sequels die a slow death like this?

It began, as it usually does, at launch. There was already plenty of controversy over no offline mode, effectively leaving solo players in the dust. So when servers were bungled, and matchmaking issues reigned supreme, fans had little more than, “Let’s get you back in the saddle, this is a small branch bank” to keep them company (alongside crashes). It took roughly a week or so before multiplayer was at a point that could be deemed stable.

However, once players finally spent more time with the game, the number of steps back became obvious. Let’s be fair and excuse the amount of content it shipped with, even though Payday 2 launched with 12 heists compared to Payday 3’s eight. Some of the other issues stemmed from terrible progression, with Infamy Points earned only from completing challenges and nothing else. Why play the mission as intended and go for the maximum amount of cash when you could speedrun it for fast XP and Infamy Points?

No pre-game chat or even a pre-planning map. No filtering and sorting for challenges. A lackluster selection of weapons. No Crime.net or lobby browser. Terrible UI design. The list went on and on, and the only consolidation was that it cost “only” $40.

Starbreeze quickly acknowledged that things weren’t going so well. It saw the demand for offline play but couldn’t confirm it was happening. It did promise ground-breaking features like renaming loadouts and an unready button. Yes, an unready button because readying for a match means no takebacks.

It all seemed well enough, and with 3.1 million unique players reported for September, there was clearly a player base that wanted to get in on the heisting action. All the developer had to do was ship some new content and its first patch with many quality-of-life improvements.

Unfortunately, the patch was delayed from early to mid-October. But then it was delayed again to an unknown date. By the beginning of November, it finally went live and though it offered several bug fixes, the real game-changing improvements would have to wait until later that month. Still, the prospect of two free Legacy Heists, revamped for the current game, and receiving Infamy Points for each completed heist sounded nice.

Starbreeze would later reveal that launch sales had surpassed expectations, but due to various issues, they began slowing down. Still, there was confidence that sales would increase over time.

The first content patch came and went, breathing some life into the game. It was good, make no mistake, but only a start. There were still many fundamental issues that had to be fixed. So the fact that Starbreeze followed this up with its first paid DLC, Syntax Error, rubbed some players the wrong way. Granted, that was the roadmap, and the developer was sticking to it, but considering all the issues that Payday 3 had faced, asking for more money wasn’t something that generated a ton of fanfare, that too for $18. Nearly half the game’s price for an outfit pack, weapon pack and one new heist? No thanks.

By January 2024, Starbreeze acknowledged that players weren’t happy with the state of the game. It thus announced a “strike team of veteran developers” to formulate a plan. That plan was eventually revealed as Operation Medic Bag, focusing on improving the UI, matchmaking, performance and even adding text chat. Text chat in 2024! Other free updates would add long-awaited features like renaming loadouts, that wiley unready button, voting to kick annoying players, dailies, rotating stealth modifiers and merging players into a party once a match concluded.

It even confirmed an offline mode for solo players, which rolls out in two phases, the first requiring a connection and the second occasionally requiring online access to update progress. However, the goal is a fully offline mode that won’t rely on servers.

All of this is good and necessary, but it feels too late. The first update for Operation Medic Bag arrived on February 29th and saw peak player counts on Steam double from 291 to 582. They subsequently dropped off a few days later. Consider titles like Palworld or Helldivers 2, which are still going strong despite their fair share of issues.

Payday 3 doesn’t just need to cater to its fan base for long periods and attract new players to provide any hope of a comeback. Quality of life features and improvements, alongside new content, are a start, but the sequel must offer an experience you can’t get anywhere else. It needs to be enjoyable and keep players coming back for more. Saying that is bizarre because Payday 2 is doing so without any new content or updates. Yes, it had multiple years to get things right, but once again, Starbreeze should have carried those lessons forward instead of doing…whatever it’s currently doing with Payday 3.

Perhaps it really does have a plan to cater to players and sincerely improve their game. However, with several big-name titles available and more on the way, you only get one shot to capture a player’s attention and make a positive impression. Long-term turnarounds are still possible, but with rising costs and companies less interested in shouldering the same for very little return, you have to wonder if Payday 3’s 2024 roadmap will pan out.

Former Focus Home Interactive CEO Juergen Goeldner will act as interim CEO until the Board finds a permanent replacement.

Following the underwhelming performance of Payday 3, developer Starbreeze’s Board of Directors has replaced CEO Tobias Sjögren. Board member Juergen Goeldner will act as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Sjögren is still available during the transition, though.

Regarding the change, Chairman Torgny Hellström said, “The company has a clear strategy centred around creating attractive games on our own and licensed IPs. The board’s consolidated assessment is that the execution of strategy needs a different leadership. Juergen Goeldner has been part of the board since 2023 and, with over 40 years of industry experience, is a strong interim solution.

“On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank Tobias Sjögren for his achievements during the past three years. Tobias took over the helm of Starbreeze in a challenging phase of its journey, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Goeldner, whose role as a board member and nomination to chairman is unaffected by this development, has been a part of the board since 2023. He previously served as CEO of Focus Home Interactive and has 40 years of experience in the industry.

As for the company’s plans, Goeldner responded, “Starbreeze has a strong history of developing and publishing games globally. After launching Payday 3, the company is well-positioned to leverage the strengths of the organization to monetize and develop the IP portfolio. I am looking forward to assuming an operative position and, together with the management, ensure the execution of this strategy.”

Though neither the board nor Goeldner mentioned Payday 3’s performance since launch, Starbreeze commented last month that it was performing at “significantly lower levels” than expected. The first-person co-op shooter had a troubled launch due to server issues, and fans quickly also took issue with its design, always-online nature, lack of quality-of-life features from Payday 2, and more.

Starbreeze has released the first paid DLC, Syntax Error, and several updates, the most recent being the first patch in Operation Medic Bag with 300 fixes and improvements. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

Starbreeze Studios has released the first update for Payday 3’s “Operation Medic Bag,” aimed at improving the experience and fixing various issues. It contains roughly 300 bug fixes and improvements, including support for Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution (v3.5), DLAA (v3.5) and DirectX 12 for PC players.

A new challenge is also available in Cook Off, where securing 19 bags of meth provides a unique weapon charm on Overkill difficulty. The catch? They must be perfectly cooked. Features-wise, a lobby unready function, controller dead zone settings and rotating security modifiers for Very Hard and Overkill heists. The modifiers will be updated every two weeks, with plans to add more for stealth and loud players.

Check out some of the patch notes below and full details here. Payday 3 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Its launch had a mixed response, and Starbreeze admitted that it’s performing at “significantly lower levels” than expected. Plans for 2024 updates include improvements to Infamy, offline play and other new features.
PAYDAY 3: Update 1.1.1 Changelog

Update Highlights & New Features

In addition to about 300 bug fixes and improvements getting implemented, we’re happy to introduce the first of the features coming out of “Operation Medic Bag”, our grand game improvement project.

Nvidia Image scaling upscaler (NIS), Nvidia DLAA(v3.5), Nvidia DLSS super resolution(v3.5).

Some new tech features that let us take advantage of Nvidia’s advanced features.

DirectX 12

Added DirectX12 as the standard graphics API, inhouse testing shows a significant performance improvement when using DX12. DX11 remains and can be manually chosen with the launch option “-dx11”.

Hardcore “Cook Off” Challenge Reward

There’s a new challenge called “Kiss the Chef.”

Securing 19 bags of perfectly cooked meth on Cook Off on OVERKILL difficulty will reward a unique weapon charm.

Various UI improvements

We’ve made several fixes to the UI, such as adding sliders, as well as added the much requested lobby unready function.

Controller Dead Zone settings

Additional controller settings allow for a much finer customization of your controller gameplay.

Rotating Security Modifiers

Starting with this patch, we’ll be rotating security modifiers on all heists for Very Hard and Overkill difficulty, to freshen up the experience. We’ll be updating the modifier distribution every two weeks. In the future, expect more stealth modifiers and loud modifiers in the rotation.

Game State Consistency

The game will now remember if you’ve chosen to show or hide the story videos in the heist selection even after restarting the game.

Lobby type and difficulty will now automatically be set to the same as the previous game.

Known Issues

Skill point assignment has been reset on loadouts but you retain your earned skill points, so remember to recreate your builds after updating the game.

[PC] The introduction of DX12 support has helped us to identify an issue that is present in the previous version of the game that we were unable to reproduce on DX11. This means that there is a rare edge-case issue while using GeForce Experience/Shadowplay’s ‘Instant Replay’ feature can cause a system lock if you ALT+Tab during game startup, or while switching between fullscreen and windowed modes in the game’s video settings.

We advise turning off ‘Instant Replay’ in the Nvidia settings to prevent this issue while we work on a fix for this.
