You can now stream gameplay from all your favourite PC games to friends.

Rejoice, PC streamers – the latest client update for Steam finally brings Broadcasting into the mix.

Steam Broadcasting is similar to services like Twitch. You can essentially live-stream your gameplay to friends or worldwide to other players. Since the feature is directly embedded into Steam, you won’t have to rely on a third party service to stream.

Valve also announced that its FPS counter is out of the beta stage and can be used for accurately counting frames during gameplay. You can check out the full details on the client update here, which also includes bug fixes for Big Picture and Linux users and other optimizations.

How will Steam Broadcasting affect games like Dota 2 which usually run on a two minute delay to prevent cheating? We’ll find out in the coming weeks but for now, let us know what you think of the new streaming tools and FPS counter for Steam in the comments.

Through the looking glass and into your friend's game.

Valve Software has revealed that a new feature is available for Steam with Steam Broadcasting. You can now watch your friends’ gameplay by simply heading to their profiles and – if they’re inside a game – clicking the “Watch Game” option and sitting back.

Some games like Dota 2 have the option to spectate different games but you require the game in your library in order to do so. The good news with Steam Broadcasting is that “no game ownership, special fees, or additional apps” will be needed. How this will work in games like Dota 2, which run on a timed delay to prevent cheating, remains to be seen.

You can participate in the beta right now by opting in through the Steam Client Beta. It should be noted that bandwidth will be limited so any issues that arise may be because of that.

What are your thoughts on Steam Broadcasting? Let us know in the comments below.
