With the official modkit coming for Fallout 4 some time soon, it appears as though official support for the Steam workshop, which at the very least offers a way to organize and keep track of mods, for the game is also in the cards, and slated to be added to the title soon.

Reddit user ZEEENIK noticed earlier today that Fallout 4 recently received an update, which is 0 bytes big, so a placeholder patch; however, it makes one change, with the image attached to the update for the game showing the Steam Workshop logo. This indicates that Steam Workshop support for the title will be coming some time soon in an update- either that, or someone jumped the gun big time.

Of course, Steam Workshop support for Fallout 4 is not an outlandish idea at all- earlier Bethesda titles, like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, have also supported the feature. And while the Nexus already exists to keep track of mods for Fallout 4, I am sure a lot of less enterprising players won’t mind a more readily accessible and immediate solution to their modding needs at all.

It’s still not even in beta, but it remains one of the biggest games in the world. Speaking at the PC Gaming Show at E3 2015 today, Bohemia Interactive’s Brian Hicks, project lead on DayZ, confirmed that the team was currently working on a single player mode for the game. This would enable players to play the title offline and by themselves, and also allow modders to check their mods in local sessions. Hicks also confirmed that DayZ will be fully integrated with the Steam Workshop, and feature support for free mods.

If all of this wasn’t enough, Hicks also confirmed that players would soon be getting the ability to host their own servers very soon- this is one of the things that has made, for example, Counter Strike a mainstay of PC gaming for as long as it has been, so it is certainly very big news.

Unfortunately, we got no release dates for either these features, or the game itself. If that changes any time soon, we will let you know. Till then, stay tuned.

And before you ask, no, there are no paid mods.

The Creative Assembly and Sega have released the official mod kit for their latest grand strategy game that released back in February, Total War: Attila. It’s called the Attila Assembly Kit, and though it is still currently in beta (technically), it is already the most extensive set of modding tools in franchise history yet.

The Attila Assembly Kit offers four separate editing tools- DaVE (database editing), BOB (processing of raw data), TeD (creation of individual battlefields for land, sea and sieges), and Terry (campaign map editing). It also offers a Terrain Raw Data resource pack that includes a a staggering 60 GB of in-game production data to play around with, should you want to.

Also, The Creative Assembly and Sega have both confirmed that this game will not be supporting paid mods. Unfortunately, it seems like this is a question most companies releasing modkits for their games on PC via the Steam Workshop will have to answer for a while now.

Tripwire Interactive updates EULA terms to prevent sale of mods for its multiplayer shooter.

Valve Software announced its new initiative for pricing mods through the Steam Workshop and there’s been quite the backlash from the community. Though developers like Bethesda have embraced it, some developers like Tripwire Interactive has updated its EULA terms for Killing Floor 2 to prevent the sale of paid mods.

As reported by PC Games N, the specific clause states, “Your mods must be distributed for free, period. Neither you, nor any other person or party, may sell them to anyone, commercially exploit them in any way, or charge anyone for receiving or using them without prior written consent from Tripwire Interactive.

“You may exchange them at no charge among other end users and distribute them to others over the Internet, on magazine cover disks, or otherwise for free.”

What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments below. Killing Floor 2 is available for PC through Steam Early Access and will be out on PS4 later this year.

User-generated content creators can now sell their creations through Steam Workshop.

Valve’s Steam Workshop has introduced a new feature that allows mod makers to earn revenue from their creations. All mods, maps and other items for supported games can now be sold through Steam Workshop. Such examples include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which has been a modding favourite for years now and will be the first title to support this new model.

Valve Software’s Tom Bui stated that, “We think this is a great opportunity to help support the incredible creative work being done by mod makers in the Steam Workshop.

“User generated content is an increasingly significant component of many games, and opening new avenues to help financially support those contributors via Steam Workshop will help drive the level of UGC to new heights.”

Since Steam Workshop debuted in 2011, content makers have earned more than $57 million. The new process will allow for easier selling of mods. Creators can also choose to name a price for their mods or to simply offer them for free. More Steam titles are expected to implement this feature in the coming months so stay tuned.

Modders, celebrate!

To PC gamers who are into modding, either creating or downloading, and generally just into user created tools, this will come as great news. Mixamo has just released a brand new update in the form of a direct download feature that will enable anyone creating a 3D character with the latest version of its character creator software Fuse (which just launched today on Steam), and animating it with its Animations, to import those characters straight into Source Filmmaker and Garry’s Mod.

“Gabe Newell noted in a Reddit AMA earlier in 2014 that the biggest improvements [to its engine technology] will be in increasing productivity of content creation. Today’s feature release is the realization of that concept for the creation of game characters,” said Stefano Corazza, CEO of Mixamo. “Our entire pipeline is predicated on the same notion that user-generated content should be easy to create and get into games. We’ve now simplified that process for the tens of thousands of developers and modders using the Source engine and for the over 6 million users of Garry’s Mod. As far we know, we’re the first-ever 3D modeling and animation service to do so.”

This is certainly great news to all PC players who are more enterprising and creative, and it should be a boon to the PC gaming community as well. Remember, some of the most popular PC games of all time- Counter Strike, DayZ, League of Legends- all started out as mods originally.

Coffee Stained Studios’ Goat Simulator has been a bigger success than it’s had any right to be and will now be heading to UK retail on May 23rd according to Koch Media.

Koch Media stated that, “The fully edible* box contains all the point scoring goat destruction, Steam Workshop Support and bugs that are expected of the world’s best-selling goat simulation game. You can be a goat. In a box.” It then added the disclaimer that, “the box is only edible to goats. You are not really a goat. Please do not eat the box.”

Indeed.

Goat Simulator, as the name states, lets you play as a goat and go around a small open world causing havoc. You can head-butt trucks, destroy gas stations, lick and drag objects and people along, and even ragdoll on command to fly across the map. It’s something, that’s for sure. What do you think of the game? Let us know below.

The Martian based installment in Bohemia Interactive’s uber hardcore Take On simulation video game series, Take On Mars, has just received a major update, which adds a plethora of major functionality to the game. Chief among these, of course, is support for the Steam Workshop, which was a long time coming (and which should lead to a plethora of mods, and other user generated content, for the game in the near future).

This update will be followed by another major update on October 3, a free update that will add Deimos as an explorable location in the game. This update includes two brand new locations for players to explore, and a vehicle designed for zero gravity environments, the Zero-G Probe. In addition, the update brings along several new features, such as ‘Dynamic Mission Generation’, which dynamically creates photo, exploration and analysis tasks around the player’s location. Another feature is the overhauled ‘Part Failure System’, which makes part failures much more reactive to the weather conditions and player’s actions, essentially making the realistic simulator even more realistic.

After the Deimos update hits, the price of the game will be also increased to 13.99 EUR/ 17.99 USD/ 11.99 GBP, so better get it now (on Steam Early Access) if you can.

Ahead of the game’s official launch on September 12 Bohemia Interactive have released a final update for the beta of their widely anticipated third installment in their hit military sim series, Arma 3. The key bulletpoint of this new update is the full integration with Steam Workshop, which allows for easier creating and sharing of user generated content (including mods)- an absolute boon for a game like Arma, which has a supremely active community of user generated content (remember that DayZ, the eagerly anticipated zombie survival game, was originally an Arma II mod).

Says designer Zlatohlávek, “Even though we are dedicated to support the traditional ways of sharing content, used by many of the popular community portals – in the fast and easy to use world of app stores, streaming services and real-time feeds, we felt that sharing user content could be improved. What we see in the Workshop is a faster and easier way both for the creators to get their work out there to players and for the players to find and try it while providing feedback and encouragement, where it’s needed the most.”

Honestly, I don’t think anyone will be complaining about Steam Workshop integration.

Arma 3 launches September 12 exclusively on PC.

The premise is that Steam Greenlight will allow developers and publishers to post information and media about their game or project in an effort to convince the Community that their game is Steam-worthy.

Greenlight plans to work in conjunction with the recently released Steam Workshop flexible system that organizes content and lets users leave feedback.

Anna Sweet of Valve said: “Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn’t fun.

“Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community’s help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions.”

Steam Greenlight is currently set for release on 30th August.
