Set in a modern fantasy world, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical revolves around college dropout Grace, who is granted the power of a Muse. Grace has to use her power to find out the truth behind a mysterious death before time runs out. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical focuses quite a bit on interactions between characters, and players will have to charm, negotiate, or intimidate their way through the world.

The release of Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical comes after the studio delayed the game from its original release date. The decision to delay the game was made because the developer felt the title would have a hard time in competing with Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, which has garnered quite a bit of critical and commercial success since its launch last week.

“We want everyone to have ample space to check out Stray Gods when it launches,” reads the announcement. “Baldur’s Gate 3 is hotly anticipated (by us, too!) and we want to give our fans room to celebrate Stray Gods.”

The studio also states that the extra week allows it time to polish Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical leading up to its release on all platforms.

Originally announced back in March 2022, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is being developed by Summerfall Studios, which was founded by David Gaider—known for his work as lead writer on Dragon Age.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical takes place in what the studio calls a “modern fantasy world”, and puts players in the shoes of Grace as she embarks on a quest to solve the mystery of the death of the Last Muse.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Taking place in what the developers call a “modern fantasy world”, Stray Gods puts players into the shoes of Grace as she embarks on a quest to unravel the mystery of the death of the Last Muse. The premise of juxtaposing Greek Gods against a modern setting certainly sounds intriguing, and the hand-drawn art style also looks fabulous in a similar vein.

Additionally, there’s also a star-studded cast of voice actors such as the likes of Laura Bailey (The Last of Us 2) and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Silent Hill 2). Of course, given the fact that its a musical RPG – there isn’t much in the name of combat.

Previously funded by a crowdfunding campaign via Fig, Stray Gods is now being published by Humble Games – although the developers have assured that this wouldn’t change anything for the backers.
