If you’ve ever dreamed of creating your own full-fledged Super Mario World, then today is your lucky day. Nintendo has released the final major update for Super Mario Maker 2 which adds World Maker mode to the game. Players can essentially customize up to eight overworld maps with a total of 40 courses to create their own mini Mario Worlds.

The update also adds a lot more in terms of content and features. New power-ups like the Frog Suit, Super Mario Bros. 2 Mario, Bullet Bill helmet and much more can be used in courses. The Koopalings also make a return along with classic enemies like mechakoopas and Phanto masks. The update also increases the number of tags that can be added to courses in Course World along with ensuring that courses tagged as “Single player” don’t show up in network play.

Check out some of the patch notes below. You can also read our review for Super Mario Maker 2 here. Previous updates have been just as sizeable for the game, adding such features as a power-up to play as Link from The Legend of Zelda. More than 10 million courses have been uploaded and with World Maker, that number should go up even further. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Maker 2 will be receiving its final update tomorrow. It’s a big one too, adding several new power-ups and course parts along with the introduction of World Maker mode. Check it out below in the new trailer.

World Maker mode essentially lets players design their own Super Mario World-style overworld. You can create alternating paths, mini-games and so on. Each of your levels can be designated to different points on the overworld. Here’s the kicker – up to eight worlds with 40 courses in total can be combined, creating entire games for players.

It’s crazy ambitious but there’s a lot more. Returning enemies include Phanto and Mechakoopas, the latter having different types that can fire lasers and homing missiles. The Koopalings also return and can be fitted into different courses as bosses. New power-ups include Bullet Bill for flying through levels; the Goomba Mask for blending in with foes; and much, much more. Stay tuned for when the update goes live tomorrow.

Nintendo celebrates its latest milestone with an upload cap increase.

Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker 2 continues to reach new heights in terms of popularity. The company announced recently that over 10 million playable courses have been uploaded by players since the game’s launch. The Switch title launched in June 2019 and had over four million courses uploaded in the first month.

To celebrate and give way for even more creativity, Nintendo has increased the upload cap for player courses to 100. If you were holding off on making courses for the latest update, which added the Master Sword as an item and a playable Link from The Legend of Zelda, this should help. Of course, it also means that even more courses will be uploaded by players worldwide.

Check out our review for Super Mario Maker 2 here. The game debuted very strong, becoming the best-selling title of its launch month in the United States. What else could Nintendo have planned in the new year? Stay tuned for more details as we find out over the next few months.

The Nintendo Switch has tons of awesome games - take a look at many of them here.

The Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017 and has already amassed a collection of excellent exclusives, third party titles and enhanced ports. There’s even more on the horizon with Luigi’s Mansion 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But in the meantime, here are the 30 best Nintendo Switch games, ranked from good to great.

Super Mario Party

The infamous ruiner of friendships debuts for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party takes the more traditional approach to the series’ formula, introducing new mini-games, some with motion controls, and a new mode called Partner Party where teams of two can work together. There’s even a mode called Toad’s Rec Room where multiple Switches can be combined for gameplay across multiple screens. Super Mario Party captures the amazing feeling of losing to never-ending nonsense, which may or may not be your definition of a good time.

If you're looking to get lost in a game, then these titles should more than suffice.

2019 may have been a year of disappointments and successes alike but there’s no denying the sheer amount of content that certain releases have contained. These are games that provided over 100 hours of gameplay, more than validating their selling price and capturing your attention like nothing else. Let’s take a look at them below.

Ancestors: Humankind Odyssey

So Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Desilets’ vision for a survival game isn’t the best. That being said, if you ever wanted to experience prehistoric journey, from the growth of your tribe all the way to its evolution millions of years later, Ancestors might be worth checking out. It encompasses combat, survival, stealth, exploration and yes, even dying. A lot. As you learn more, craft tools and carry your tribe forward, so too does the world around you change.

Other new additions include Ninja Speedruns where players can test their speed against others’ ghosts – manifested as Ninjis – in custom courses. Nintendo has also updated its Detailed Search options for courses, allowing players to sort by “Date Uploaded” and “Number of Plays”. A variety of other issues for a more “pleasant gaming experience”.

A whole new way to play courses, Ninji Speed Runs and more coming on December 5th.

Nintendo has announced a hefty new content update for Super Mario Maker 2 on the Switch. Out on December 5th, it adds classic enemies like Spike and Pokey along with new items. However, perhaps the greatest new item is the Master Sword which, upon pickup, transforms Mario into Link from The Legend of Zelda series.

But that’s not all. As Link, players can attack with the sword, block projectiles and damage with the shield and even perform a downward thrust. Link also has items like Bombs and Arrows to help get by some obstacles. You can even dash through enemies with the sword.

Though it’s limited to the Super Mario Bros. style only, the sheer amount of content that could be tailored for Link is crazy. And there’s even more like Ninji Speed Runs which are levels crafted by Nintendo that players have to beat in a time limit. Through the speed run, you’ll be racing alongside other players’ Ninjis in an attempt to beat them. Check out the trailer below for all the details.

Along with its financial results for the quarter, Nintendo also updated its lifetime sales numbers for a number of Switch exclusives. The star of this selection is undoubtedly The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. It released on September 20th and has sold 3.13 million copies as of September 30th.

That’s no small feat but then again, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a very good game (check out our review here). Among the other new titles was Super Mario Maker 2 which released in June 2019 and has sold 3.93 million copies till date. However, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the best-selling Switch title ever though with 19.01 million units sold in its lifetime.

This is followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 15.71 million and Super Mario Odyssey at 15.38 million. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which launched with the console in March 2017, sits at 14.54 million units sold. You can check out the top ten best-selling Switch titles below. Stay tuned for other major Switch releases before the fiscal year is up, like Luigi’s Mansion 3 which launches today.

A number of other improvements have also been made.

Super Mario Maker 2 might be an absolute gem of a game, reflected in both its reviews and its popularity among fans since launch, but it’s not a perfect game. Since its release though, Nintendo has been making occasional updates to the platformer-slash-creation toolset to make improvements here and there.

Back before launch though, when it came to light that, bafflingly enough, Super Mario Maker 2 would not let you play online with friends, there was a fair amount of confusion and backlash in response to the decision. In response to the backlash, Nintendo confirmed that playing online with your friends would eventually be made available in the game post-launch with a patch- and now, that patch is here.

Update 1.1.0 adds the ability to play both, Versus and co-op modes with friends online, including on courses in the Coursebot (both, those that have been uploaded and those that have been downloaded). There are also new options for local play as well as LAN play. Meanwhile, the game also adds other quality-of-life improvements, such as adding horizontal Joy-Con play in all modes, adding button controls in handheld mode, and adding a refresh button to the Courses Uploaded section.

Its day 1 sales seem to have surpassed those of Super Mario Maker 2.

These days, Nintendo’s first party titles are pretty much always guaranteed to sell well, which is doubly true for The Legend of Zelda games, and even more so thanks to the popularity of the Switch. However, it seems like the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening might be selling better than many would have expected.

Over on Twitter, known industry insider Benji is reporting that Link’s Awakening’s day 1 sales have surpassed the day 1 sales of Super Mario Maker 2. That in and of itself for multiple reasons. For starters, outselling a Mario game is not an easy task, especially for a top-down Zelda title, which is a remake no less. Benji also reports that Link’s Awakening has become Nintendo’s biggest launch of 2019 so far- though with Pokemon Sword and Shield on the horizon, it probably won’t have that crown for long.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is out on, exclusively for the Switch. Our review of the game will be going up soon, so stay tuned.
