After work on Lost Skies is done and the game has gone live, Bossa Studios plans on scaling down with an undisclosed number of layoffs.

Developer Bossa Games, the studio behind Surgeon Simulator, has announced that it will be making layoffs. Announced through a post on LinkedIn, the layoffs have been attributed to “a fundamental transformation of the games industry” by studio co-founder and co-CEO Henrique Olifiers.

“In our view this is not a phase, it’s a fundamental transformation of the games industry, a reshape of how games are made and by what kinds of teams,” wrote Olifiers in a statement. “The industry of two years in the future will not look like the industry of two years ago.”

Olifiers has revealed that the studio is currently focused on the launch of its upcoming game, Lost Skies. While the survival crafting game doesn’t yet have a release date, Olifiers has stated that Bossa Games will be reorganised into having smaller teams that work on smaller-scale games after the title goes live. As a result of this reorganisations, an undisclosed number of employees will be laid off.

“We’ve had to make the painful decision to scale back, focusing on the late-stage production of Lost Skies and its upcoming launch, ensuring the game is successfully released and evolved for its players for the foreseeable future,” he said. “Once Lost Skies is established and enjoying live operations, we’ll reshape into small teams working independently on novel game ideas brought to the players as early as possible.”

“This means saying very difficult goodbyes to extremely talented and treasured colleagues, truly some of the best people in the games industry, who have been part of our journey for a long time. We wish we had found a way of navigating this turmoil without resorting to the decision of scaling back our teams, but unfortunately we’ve failed in this endeavour.”

Known for its comedic games like Surgeon Simulator and I Am Fish, Bossa Games is currently working on Lost Skies – an open-world survival crafting game that will have players take to the skies as they explore the world with their very own flying craft. Throughout their time with the game, players will get to explore ancient ruins, solve puzzles, and discover technology left behind by precursors.

One of the key features of Lost Skies is the skyship, which players will get to create and modify. Along with cosmetic modifications, players will also have to sort out the skyship’s more functional aspects, including its durability, agility, and even firepower for aerial ship-to-ship combat.

Along with their skyships, players will also get to explore the world on their own by making use of a grappling hook and their personal hang glider and wingsuit. Along the way, players will also get to make use of an Island Creator, with which they can make their own islands that can then be shared with other players through the Steam Workshop.

The complete spec requirements for Lost Skies have been revealed through the game’s Steam listing. Interestingly, the title doesn’t need particularly powerful hardware to play, with both the minimum and recommended specs listing parts that are more than 3 generations old. A demo for Lost Skies is currently available through Steam.

These games throw logic to the wind while still being enjoyable.

Video games can be viewed as art in a number of different ways. They’re also chock-full of straight-up dumb moments that are utterly ridiculous in scope and scale. But many times, those dumb moments can be enjoyable, adding to the experience in wonderful ways. So let’s take a look at 10 of the dumbest moments in videos that we were totally okay with. Spoilers abound.

Nanomachines Here, Nanomachines There – Metal Gear Solid 4

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the penultimate conclusion to Solid Snake’s story, offering salvation, damnation, and ultimately redemption. Also, nanomachines. Nanomachines for everything. Nanomachines are needed to utilize the newest generation of weapons. Nanomachines can be manipulated to freak people out, as Liquid Ocelot did to Snake, his own PMC, and Meryl’s crew. Nanomachines can hold off diseases, like Naomi Hunter’s cancer, and they’re even the cause of Vamp’s immortality, allowing him to cheat death on numerous occasions. But you know what? Seeing technology become so invasive in the future, to the extent of becoming a necessity for warfare, was crazy and psychedelic in its own right.

From demonic monstrosities to haphazard doctors, no hospital is safe in the world of video games.

What is it about hospitals in video games that attempt to simply cause misery or lay down the foundation for such? It’d be one thing if they all healed you and sent you on your merry way but that’s hardly ever the case. Let’s take a look at 15 insane hospitals you wouldn’t want to get up from.

Dhekelia SBA Memorial Hospital – Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Aside from a female assassin trying to kill him, Big Boss quote-unquote has to deal with a deranged psychic and a man on fire capable of summoning a burning steed. We’re sure the hospital itself is a nice enough place but given the number of forces attempting to eliminate our hero at any given time, you may want to avoid it based on who’s waking up on which day.

The journey of bread is finally available to all.

Bossa Studios’ I Am Bread is now available on Steam, finally leaving Early Access and available at a discount. You can pick up the game at $9.74 rather than the $13 asking price (valid till April 16th).

From the creators of Surgeon Simulator, I Am Bread has you playing as a slice of bread making it’s way through the world on a journey to become toasted. Yes, seriously. There’s plenty of wacky physics to assist you on this journey and even if you’ve played the Early Access version, you’ll find new content to sick your teeth into.

For instance, the final chapter to Story mode is ready and there’s now a “Magic Marmalade” option to disable the edibility and grip limit of the bread, resulting in an easier playthrough. Rampage Mode has also been revamped and offers a new layout with plenty of things to destroy.

Will you be picking up I Am Bread? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

It's... a math game?

Surgeon Simulator made waves when it first hit the scene on PC, thanks to its hilariously inaccurate (and completely professionally unrepresentative… I hope) depictions of surgery and the operation table, and the procedures associated with them. But the developers, like any good artists, aren’t just content to coast on their successes, and the want to move on and craft something new, hopefully something equally compelling. And they have! And what they have given us is Twelve A Dozen, which is… a math game?

It’s a math based puzzle platformer, coming to iPad, which finds the player playing a girl called Twelve, in a game that is actually mind bogglingly abstract and mathematical in its approach. And yet somehow actually made for kids.

“Every time we showed one of our games to people from various walks of life, we heard the same thing, ‘How can I get these for my kid?'” said CEO Joel Klein on the publisher’s recent blog post. “So we decided to see if people are as crazy about these games as we are. If the commercial launch of Twelve a Dozen is well received, we’d want to consider making some of our other games available to consumers as well.”

Well, good luck to you guys. May your insanity never subside.

Questionable medicine, now on your PS4.

[HTML1]

Surgeon Simulator was a pretty darn good (and successful) game when it hit Steam last year; more importantly, it was also a game carrying the ‘simulator’ label before it had devolved into a joke… although it was one of the games that actually started the trend of making the ‘simulator’ games jokes, by basically gleefully advocating malpractices. Yeah guys, using this as a substitute for proper medical training might actually be a bad idea.

Anyway, this game is now coming over to the PlayStation 4. To be specific, it will be available on Sony’s newest console next week, on August 13. Titled ‘Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition,’ the PS4 entry will include new eye and teeth operations, additional environments, stat tracking and fully functioning cups, and will promote some even more questionable surgeries and operations, such as one in a theater. No, really.

The game will be available for $12.99 / €10.99 / £8.99. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

Will also make full use of DualShock 4's six axis.

Bossa Studios have announced that Surgeon Simulator will be making its way to the PlayStation 4. The game was previously released on Steam and iOS, selling over one million copies. Furthermore, the game saw 2.34million fan-made videos uploaded to YouTube and it also managed to hit the Top 5 on the paid App Store charts in 49 countries.

Bossa Studios co-founder and Creator-in-Chief, Imre Jele stated that, “bringing Surgeon Simulator to the PS4 proved to be both an exciting design challenge and a hilarious development experience. This new version definitely escalates the comedy of the original, bringing the physical humour of the game out of the screen and into the living room, which makes testing all the more entertaining!”

The game will make use of the DualShock 4’s six axis allowing players to controls scalpels and forceps. There is no release date yet with Bossa Studios stating that it will be released soon. Are you looking forward to the game? Let us know in the comments section below.
