Bohemia Interactive may be best known for their ARMA games and the upcoming DayZ, but they also have worked on an incredible space simulator, Take On Mars. What you see above are the screenshots for this simulator that were just released earlier today.

The screenshots are indicative of an update coming to the game (still in Early Access on Steam), which charges players to perform a multitude of scientific experiments, construct habitats spanning from shelters to entire installations, and search for viable sources of oxygen, water, and raw materials, all the while surviving the hostile Martian environment, adding a layer of Minecraft to the proceedings.

Take On Mars has been available on Steam Early Access for quite a while now, and is still there, should you want to give it a twirl. Stay tuned for more information and coverage, both on the game, and from the E3 2014 show floor itself.

Brand new 64 square kilometers now explorable.

Bohemia Interactive, the folks who bring us the award winning Arma and Day-Z games, are also behind the significantly less well known, but in no way less impressive, Take On Mars, a simulator that brings players to Mars to perform a multitude of scientific experiments, construct habitats spanning from shelters to entire installations, and search for viable sources of oxygen, water, and raw materials.

Take On Mars challenges players to actively manage their oxygen levels, food stocks, grow plants, and operate drilling rigs in the search for new resources, adding some Minecraft to your Mars exploration.

Anyway, so the game has now received its first Expedition One update- this lands the first human astronauts on Mars, gives them access to a buggy that lets them explore a new 8x8km area, and gives them access to an in game 3D printer which they can use to construct shelters and tools.

The rich Mars exploration sim, therefore, just got richer. You can buy it on Steam for $18.

Hefty update adds a slew of features.

Bohemia Interactive’s Mars sim, Take On Sim, currently still in Early Access on Steam, has just received a new update. Titled Workbench, the update adds multiple features for mod makers, and several new crater locations to explore.

With the release of this update, Take On Mars now officially supports Total Conversions and Mods fully. This means the game now deals with additional content in a modular fashion, meaning you can essentially replace literally everything in the game script by script and replace it with your own creations, making the game sort of the ultimate sandbox platform for modders to build on.

The new update also replaces the old editing suite with a newer, more featured one. This latest edition of Workbench is tailored specifically for mod makers, and gives them full access to all of the tools used to make Take On Mars, from crater locations to particle effects.

It’s a full featured update, and current players should be damn pleased with it.

Steam Trading Cards for our Martian buddies.

Bohemia Interactive’s hardcore Mars exploration sim, Take On Mars, has received a pack of Steam Trading Cards today, the company announced in a press release today.Collecting the Trading Cards will allow people to obtain various pieces of artwork, which can be crafted into badges, drop loot in the form of profile skins, and even offer rewards such as Steam discount vouchers.

This is, of course, just another update in a series of updates leading up to October 3rd’s Deimos Update, which will, among other things, add new locations and new vehicles for the players to mess around with. It will also include new features such as ‘Dynamic Mission Generation’, a revamped ‘Part Failure System’ and the expanded ‘Dynamic Weather System’. The update is so major, in fact, that once it hits (free for existing owners of the game at that point), the game’s price will permanently go up. So you probably want to get your hands on this game now, if you’re at all interested.

New update makes simulator even more realistic.

The Martian based installment in Bohemia Interactive’s uber hardcore Take On simulation video game series, Take On Mars, has just received a major update, which adds a plethora of major functionality to the game. Chief among these, of course, is support for the Steam Workshop, which was a long time coming (and which should lead to a plethora of mods, and other user generated content, for the game in the near future).

This update will be followed by another major update on October 3, a free update that will add Deimos as an explorable location in the game. This update includes two brand new locations for players to explore, and a vehicle designed for zero gravity environments, the Zero-G Probe. In addition, the update brings along several new features, such as ‘Dynamic Mission Generation’, which dynamically creates photo, exploration and analysis tasks around the player’s location. Another feature is the overhauled ‘Part Failure System’, which makes part failures much more reactive to the weather conditions and player’s actions, essentially making the realistic simulator even more realistic.

After the Deimos update hits, the price of the game will be also increased to 13.99 EUR/ 17.99 USD/ 11.99 GBP, so better get it now (on Steam Early Access) if you can.

ARMA 3 may not be heading to consoles any time soon but Bohemia doesn’t care. As the next edition in their military shooter series, ARMA 3 offers a far more realistic take on shooting than either Call of Duty or Battlefield. Check out the newest screenshots for the title, which is currently in beta testing. It will release in Q3 2013 for Steam.

Bohemia Interactive has more than just ARMA 3 in mind – it also plans on going deep into space with Take on Mars, the next game in the Take On series which places you in the role of a Rover Operator. You’ll be able to explore different areas of the red planet, with both Rovers and Landers at your disposal, and complete different missions to uncover the mysteries of Mars.

Take on Mars will have three modes: Space Program, which has you working for the so-called Space Agency and embarking on a campaign; Scenarios for standalone missions and objectives; and Editor , which allows you to either create missions or just fool around in a free form mode.

Combined with a dynamic destructive system, an economy for managing missions and sending expeditions, and realistic terrain, along with plenty of modding capabilities, Take on Mars offers quite the experience for a simple simulation.

Day Z:

Day Z started off as a mod for ARMA 2, but has since grown into something more…fiendish. Now a standalone open world multiplayer survival horror experience, players must fight for survival in the post-Soviest Chernarus which is teeming with the undead. This means hunting for supplies, scavenging for weapons and medicines and just trying to either cooperate with other players or end them along with the zombies.

Check out new screenshots for the game, which will be hitting Steam soon (it’s currently in closed beta testing).
