While it hasn't seen the meteoric success of GTA Online, Strauss Zelnick believes calling it a "wasted opportunity" isn't true.

In all the furor over Grand Theft Auto 6’s imminent release this year, it can be easy to forget that Rockstar has another best-selling title on its hands, and it continues to find its takers.

We’re talking, of course, about Red Dead Redemption 2, a take on the Wild West that continues to be a very relevant presence in modern gaming despite the last instalment being nearly eight years old at this point. Red Dead Online might have been a multiplayer mode, but it did well enough to get its own standalone version back in the day and even a bit of new content as recently as last year.

And while most development resources were pulled to focus on Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick denies that it was a “wasted opportunity.” Speaking to IGN, he said, “Let me be clear, there is literally nothing about Red Dead [Redemption 2] selling 85 million units that could signal a missed opportunity. And Red Dead Online has been immensely successful and long-lasting.

“I think if we didn’t have Grand Theft Auto here at our company, then people would just talk about the fact that we have this massive franchise in Red Dead, which we do and of which we’re very proud. I actually personally think Red Dead is just amazing and I love engaging with it. And I think the reason it continues to sell is that it’s just spectacular entertainment. It’s beautiful, and it feels very up to date despite the fact that it’s not a new title.”

We’re hoping that means that Rockstar hasn’t given up on the franchise, and that maybe, just maybe, it’s going to tell us that the next big title is in development after all the fuss over Grand Theft Auto 6 eventually dies down (if not the long-rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster). When could that be? Your guess is as good as ours, but it’s a good sign that the franchise is being viewed so positively by its makers, isn’t it?

While that also includes "platform extensions," it's possible that the company has some unannounced remasters/remakes in the works.

While it may seem full speed ahead to Grand Theft Auto 6 for Take-Two Interactive – and for good reason, given the magnitude of the release – the publisher has much more in store for the future. Beyond the usual sports titles like NBA 2K27, PGA Tour 2K27, and WWE 2K27 – not to mention Judas from Ghost Story Games and 31st Union’s Project ETHOS – it also has multiple remasters and remakes.

As noted by Take-Two president Karl Slatoff in the company’s fiscal earnings call, there are plans to release six remakes, remasters and “platform extensions” throughout fiscal years 2028 and 2029. That’s excluding the three new core IPs and seven sequels that are in the works.

The first thing that comes to mind is Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, which Remedy Entertainment is developing in partnership with Rockstar. It’s also possible that Red Dead Redemption 1 re-releases on other platforms in the future (far-fetched as that sounds). But is it too much to expect rumors of the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster to be true?

Of course, “platform extensions” is another key term, and for all we know, it could encompass bringing Grand Theft Auto 6 to PS6, Project Helix and PC. If so, then it wouldn’t be surprising for PC players to see a port sometime next year, if not in early 2028.

At more than 85 million sales, Rockstar's 2019 magnum opus and one of the most acclaimed games of all time achieves another milestone.

While Rockstar is focused on releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 this November, its existing titles continue to perform well. As reported in Take-Two’s latest financial results, Red Dead Redemption 2 has crossed 85 million units sold-in since November 2019.

Why is this such a big deal? It’s officially surpassed Wii Sports as the third-best-selling game of all time, coming in right behind Grand Theft Auto 5 (which is almost at 230 million units sold). It’s a huge milestone, especially considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t had any updates or massive changes in recent years.

Sure, there’s Red Dead Online, which saw new features, missions and Specialist Roles, but it stopped receiving content updates in 2022 when Rockstar announced it was focusing resources on Grand Theft Auto 6. There have been rumors circulating about a potential Enhanced version, but no official announcement has been forthcoming.

Regardless, Red Dead Redemption 2 stands as one of the best games of all time, receiving universal praise throughout the years. It’s even inspired other open-world titles in various ways, whether it’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Crimson Desert. Check out our review here for more details, including why it continues to stand the test of time.

“So the next few weeks I don’t think it’ll be summertime yet, but when it’s summertime, Rockstar expects to start marketing ‘GTA 6.'”

So, Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders didn’t go live earlier this week as those Best Buy Affiliate emails would have suggested. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said that he didn’t know where those rumors came from and that marketing is still on track to begin this Summer. But you might want to sit down before expecting it to show up at any of the big showcases in June.

Speaking to Variety, which also pointed out that Summer technically begins around the end of June (June 21st, if we’re going by astronomical terms), Zelnick simply said, “So the next few weeks I don’t think it’ll be summertime yet, but when it’s summertime, Rockstar expects to start marketing ‘GTA 6.’”

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t drop a new trailer at State of Play or Summer Game Fest to tease a full reveal at the end of June, which is when marketing and likely pre-orders begin. But that’s never really been Rockstar’s MO. Cut to the past two trailer drops, which were out of nowhere and still went on to become the most highly viewed trailers of all time.

Regardless, Zelnick reiterated that the game is indeed launching this November. “I think reiterating November 19 as is a launch day today is probably a positive. I think we’ve been really clear that we’re releasing the title on November 19.” Plans could always change – game development is a fickle beast after all – but he seems pretty sure this time.

We’ll still have to wait and see, with Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 first before PC. It may even skip the usual review cycle and instead host a private event for reviewers instead of sending out review codes to prevent potential leaks.

Strauss Zelnick also reiterated that there are no more plans to delay GTA 6 further, and that the full marketing push will start in summer.

While recent reports had indicated that Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders would be going live this week through US retailer Best Buy, in an interview with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has said that this is not the case. Zelnick has also recently noted that the title is still on track for its November 19th release date, and there are no more delays planned for it yet.

Mentioning that he wasn’t quite sure where the rumors about pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Best Buy started from, Zelnick has also reiterated that the full marketing push for the highly anticipated title will begin in the summer.

Interestingly, earlier this year, there were also rumors that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games might be planning to delay the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to instead focus on a digital-only release. However, these rumors were debunked by Zelnick during an earnings call in February, where he said, “That’s not the plan.”

On the subject of the title’s arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and the lack of a release date for a PC version, Zelnick said that the consoles serve as the “core” audience for the upcoming game, and as such, are the primary focus for the company.

“Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” Zelnick said earlier this month. “Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.” On the subject of whether a deal was signed with Sony to put off the PC release, Zelnick said, “No. I mean, historically, Rockstar’s gone to console first.”

Zelnick isn’t wrong, since Rockstar has focused on releasing its 3D Grand Theft Auto titles since GTA 3 on consoles almost a year before they were brought to PC. This trend has continued with all of the company’s games, including Red Dead Redemption 2.

Interestingly, Zelnick has been largely silent when the discussion moved to the subject of pricing for Grand Theft Auto 6. His most recent comment on the matter came during a conference for gaming industry executives, where he said that the game’s pricing is down to what consumers would be willing to pay.

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery,” Zelnick said. “How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.”

He also brought up the subject of inflation and how gaming software has largely avoided prices going up over the decades. “If you look at it through that lens, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But that isn’t the lens through which we look. Instead, we look at… how do we deliver something amazing, and how do we make sure that what people pay for it feels very reasonable,” he said.

Interestingly, Bank of America believes that the company should target an $80 price tag for the good of the entire industry.

Take-Two earnings: Grand Theft Auto VI is still planned for November 19. No delay. In an interview with Bloomberg today, CEO Strauss Zelnick said he didn't know where this week's Best Buy rumors came from and that pre-orders typically start alongside marketing (which will begin this summer).

Don't expect the company to take the same approach that it did with Grand Theft Auto 5, though, especially when it comes to TV.

Take Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has spoken to GamesIndustry.biz about how Grand Theft Auto 6’s marketing campaigns aren’t going to follow the same route as its predecessor. Purchasing network television slots, for instance, isn’t on the radar, so don’t expect many commercials. But Zelnick’s assertion only raises more questions than answers, in our opinion.

“I’ve been asked by investors whether we need to spend marketing dollars given the scale of the intellectual property and its reach and the sentiment… and the answer is, of course, we need to market it.” You can still “a very significant, broad-based marketing campaign that reflects where audiences and attention are today,” but don’t expect it to mirror how the company marketed Grand Theft Auto 5.

“13 years ago, we were still buying network television. We won’t be buying a lot of network television,” says Zelnick.

What that broad-based campaign could entail is anybody’s guess at this moment, but it isn’t the only question on our minds. The next trailer’s release date is one that we think a lot of you are curious about. We’re quite interested to see how fans eagerly waiting for news about this year’s biggest blockbuster will interpret what Zelnick has said.

This statement comes soon after he lamented the delay in GTA 6’s release, and whispers of an interesting approach to leak prevention by Rockstar. We think it’s past time for one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, and perhaps the decade, to get a new trailer and get those marketing plans, whatever they may be, started already.

Either way, all this has done is make us all the more curious about what the next few months are going to bring in the run-up to Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releasing on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Strauss Zelnick's timeline indicates that, if Grand Theft Auto 6 hadn't been delayed twice, it would have come out in May 2025.

As we slowly inch closer to the November 19th release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, the CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, has revealed that the studio is currently around 18 months behind on its development timeline for the game. In an interview with David Senra, Zelnick was asked about the development timeline for the game and how it slipped past the studio.

As the two discussed how Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely going to be one of the biggest releases in the industry, Zelnick once more reiterated the fact that it will come out on November 19th. “I think we’re about 18 months behind the original date,” said Zelnick when discussing the title’s two delays. “Not much more than that.”

Counting backwards from the current release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, the 18-month mark indicates that the original plans for releasing the title would be in May 2025.

It is worth noting that Rockstar Games had previously aimed for a 2025 release window, which would ultimately get pushed back to 2026. Interestingly, it was going to come out on May 26th before the studio announced that it needed more time to work on the game, leading to its current November 19th release date.

Zelnick has previously spoken about the title’s first delay, calling it a painful decision that had to be made to ensure that Rockstar Games could achieve its “creative vision with no limitations.”

“As we get closer to completion of a title that’s seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof, for continued polish become clear,” Zelnick said at the time. “In this case, there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported, of course, that approach.”

As for its current release date, Zelnick said back in November 2025 that there are no more plans for any delays. He said that the company feels “really good about this release date”.

“When we set a date, we really do believe in it,” said Zelnick. “We said when we set the last date, if a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time. And that’s exactly what happened. We feel really good about this release date. It’s in the same fiscal year, it happens to be a great release window, and naturally, we’re really supportive of Rockstar’s approach.”

As for why the release date was announced so far in advance, Zelnick spoke about the time required for appropriate marketing to be planned out and executed.

“It’s not that far in advance if you look at when you need to deliver a game to get it out,” Zelnick said. “Also, we have to start marketing activities in a significant amount of time ahead of release. What we want to do is give consumers as much certainty as possible. And again, we feel quite good about this date.”

Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. There have been no announcements about a PC release so far.

Instead of sending out review copies, Rockstar will allegedly fly journalists out for a review event instead to ensure maximum security.

With so many games leaking nowadays, Rockstar Games allegedly has plans to avoid such a scenario with Grand Theft Auto 6. Journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe recently claimed on the X do Controle podcast that instead of sending out review copies, the developer would fly journalists to a location to play the game.

As translated by Portal Viciados on Twitter, “Nobody is going to get the key to this game…It looks like there’s going to be some kind of review event. They’re going to have the journalists travel, stay for days, so there are no leaks…So there’s no risk of leaks, man! Like, everyone’s going to play this indoors.”

The veracity of this claim is up in the air. After all, remember the rumor about Rockstar delaying physical copies to arrive after digital, which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick denied?

However, the practice itself is nothing new. Such events have been part of the industry for years, especially for previews. With Grand Theft Auto 6 facing a major leak in December 2023 and Rockstar firing employees after alleged security breaches, a review event to clamp down on any potential spoilers before launch wouldn’t be surprising.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Pre-orders allegedly start on May 18th according to Best Buy Affiliate emails, and while we wait for confirmation, Take-Two previously confirmed that launch marketing would begin this Summer. Will that mean a new trailer sometime soon? Perhaps closer to launch? Stay tuned for more updates until then.

Sources were reportedly afraid of discussing how many workers were affected by the layoffs due to fears of underestimate the extent.

Developer Visual Concepts, known for its work on the NBA 2K and WWE 2K franchises, has been hit by layoffs. According to Insider Gaming, these layoffs were company-wide. However, the teams working on the WWE 2K games have apparently been harder hit by these layoffs than the team working on NBA 2K. Along with the main team working on WWE 2K games, the ones working on WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition have also been hit.

While no details about how many employees were affected by this round of layoffs have been revealed, according to the report, sources have said that “it wasn’t insignificant”. It also makes a note of the sources, not mentioning a precise number due to fears of underestimating the true number of workers affected.

WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition is noted as having not met the expectations of those at Netflix, which was likely one of the reasons for the layoffs. “They expected it to be something it was never designed to be: a mobile game,” said the sources about the title. Another source said that the leadership at Take-Two Interactive hadn’t been honest with the development team about how well the title had been doing. “Leadership lied the whole time, saying the game was fine and great,” they said. Ultimately, the poor performance of the game led to Netflix skipping out on Netflix Editions of WWE 2K26 and even WWE 2K27, which meant that the team behind WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition was left without anything to work on.

The latest entry in the franchise, WWE 2K26, was released just a few months ago and featured CM Punk as the cover star for its base edition. This would mark the first time that the wrestler has been the cover star for the franchise since 2012’s WWE ’13. The professional wrestler also serves as the focus of the game’s 2K Showcase mode, dubbed “Punked”, which gives players a tour of his career throughout the ages. Much like last year’s entry, it also includes dream matches with WWE Legends through the Fantasy Warfare option.

WWE 2K26 features more than 400 wrestlers in its roster, ranging from Legends from eras in the past to up-and-coming newer wrestlers, like Blake Munroe and Rey Fenix. When it comes to game modes, it includes a few new match types, including Three Stages of Hell, Inferno, I Quit, and Dumpster matches.

The title is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. For more details, take a look at our review of the PS5 version, which we gave a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its weightier physics, slick 2K Showcase mode, and overhauled presentation. However, we found the damage realism, AI, and pacing of the Showcase mode to be quite underwhelming.

At the end of March, 2K Sports and Visual Concepts addressed player feedback on how WWE Superstars are unlocked through the Ringside Pass system, bringing in a major change. Going forward, the companies have confirmed that all four DLC characters part of Ringside Pass Premium Seasons will be available in Tier 1 and be automatically unlocked for all Premium Pass owners.

It seems the wait may finally be over, as multiple Affiliate accounts reported receiving an email about pre-orders starting soon.

So you saw a wild theory about Grand Theft Auto 6 and believed the latest trailer would be revealed soon. Again. Well, there’s good news for all the true believers – emails have apparently gone out to Best Buy Affiliate members, revealing that pre-orders would begin on May 18th, i.e. this coming Monday.

It’s part of a campaign available until May 21st, with pre-orders receiving five percent off the physical edition. GamingLeaksAndRumours on Reddit has collated all the different Affiliate accounts that reported receiving the email, from @videogamedeals on Twitter to a GTAForums user. Best Buy, or the company that sends these emails to Affiliates, may have mistakenly let the news slip early.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the next trailer will drop on the same day, but you would have to think that Rockstar Games has some new information to reveal. Perhaps on pre-order bonuses and a potential Deluxe Edition, along with whenever we can look forward to the next reveal (especially since marketing begins this Summer).

Either way, the date is seemingly set, so stay tuned for more details – including whether Bank of America gets its wish on the price – next week. Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says it was “expensive.” Head here for more details.
