Tangentlemen’s Here They Lie has received a new update that lets you play the game without PlayStation VR.

As part of the PlayStation VR’s launch line-up, the free update allows PS4 players to use a normal display. Going forward, those who purchase the game will receive both the normal and VR versions.

The update also adds PS4 Pro enhancements such as 4K and high dynamic range lighting (HDR) support. For PlayStation VR, there is an “all-around higher quality render mode” which delivers dynamic shadows from flashlights, ambient occlusion, post-processing effects and superior shadows.

You can also take advantage of a new Chapter Select option, enable subtitles when not playing with VR, VR tutorial and access to new options for controller configurations. The game has also received improvements to its anti-aliasing and lighting along with enhanced VR head-tracking and texture streaming.

Even darkness has a reason for staying.

What is a dream when everything feels so real? Tangentlemen’s Here They Lie seems to pose that question except it’s world is as nightmarish as they come. The horror title was revealed at E3 2016 and will launch with PlayStation VR this October. Check out the launch trailer below to see what it has in store for launch day consumers.

Here They Lie sees you in a city teeming with hellish creatures. What are they and why are you there? The darkness is right there with you and apparently for good reason as you navigate twisted subway stations, blocks upon blocks of city-scape and encounter horse-headed humans and other demented beings.

Here They Lie will be out on October 13th, the same as PlayStation VR and a physical release is inbound on November 2nd. What are your thoughts on the launch trailer and what are you expecting? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

Surreal VR horror title arrives just in time for Halloween.

Tangentlemen’s creepy horror title Here They Lie, developed alongside SIE Santa Monica Studio, has been given a more concrete release date from its previous Fall 2016 listing. The PlayStation US Store has noted that Here They Lie will be available on October 13th. That’s the same day as PlayStation VR, making it a day one title for Sony’s VR headset.

If you didn’t see it unveiled at E3 2016, then Here They Lie can be described as a surrealistic horror with a very creepy atmosphere. Jump scares aren’t the name of the game (though they’re still likely) – instead, you’ll encounter bizarre sights like manpigs, creatures with antlers, bleeding environments and much more. Tangentlemen apparently wants players to make “life or death moral choices” to save themselves or even the creatures around them.

Sound like your kind of VR experience? You’ll be able to pick it up alongside PlayStation VR when they both launch on October 13th. What are your thoughts on Here They Lie? Let us know in the comments below.

What a diverse range of industry backgrounds.

Former developers from industry blockbuster hits such as Call of Duty, Spec Ops, Tomb Raider, and the just launched Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, have all come together to start up a new studio- Tangentlemen, which they describe as ‘a curious new start-up studio dedicated to uncanny interactive experiences.’

Apparently, the new studio has come together in response to the increasingly bloated, spiraling out of control AAA development, and all the costs and risks associated with it.

“The rocketing costs of AAA development led to a creative stagnation in games until the recent explosion of the indie scene. We have formed Tangentlemen to take some creative risks and trust our belief that there is an audience who want fun experiences that don’t fall comfortably inside predefined marketing boxes.” Says Co-Creative Director Toby Gard.

“At Tangentlemen, we see each creative dilemma – no matter how challenging as a dance with the devil, so to say. We live for those challenges. By relying on our collective experience, mutual respect, and off-kilter personalities, we’re able to twerk it out into new exciting thematic territory.” said game industry veteran Cory Davis, the Tangentlemen Co -Creative Director. “Our solutions are not what you’d expect. They’re often weird, or even absurd, with strong gestures that challenge the status quo. Our games are extreme in their thematic, narrative, and mechanical design. I seriously can’t wait to tell you exactly what we’re up to right now!

Currently, Tangentlemen is in concept phase for their first project, an existential, surreal horror trip with a working title Daedalus, with no confirmed platforms or release dates. We’ll have more for you on this studio and whatever it is that they choose to come up with, so stay tuned.
