We’re at the point now to where the year is slowly winding down. Thanksgiving is here (if you’re in the United States) and December is right around the corner. It’s been a year I imagine a lot of us want to put behind us with hope that 2021 will be a lot better. With one last month also comes one last month of free titles for PS Plus and now we know what Sony is giving us to close out the year.

The final PS Plus selection for 2020 consists of three titles. First up is the multiplayer-focused Rocket Arena, a unique 3v3 title all about blowing each other up. Then you have the massive open world title from Avalanche Studios Just Cause 4 that will allow you to also blow up a lot of stuff, but in a huge sandbox world. Finally, like last month, we have a game that will be debuting day and date on PS Plus, Worms Rumble, a new entry in the franchise all about worms blowing each other up in turn-based warfare.

All three titles will be available to redeem for PS Plus members starting December 1st. All three games will also be redeemable on either PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4.

Check out the developer diary for Worms Revolution and the Q&A with the programmer below.

Second video in our series of five developer diaries for Worms Revolution. This diary sees Programmer, Ian Lindsey, tell us all about the new 3D landscapes within the game. Plus he instructs on the introduction of both physics objects and dynamic water. Worms Revolution will be available digitally for PC (Steam) Xbox360 (XBLA) and PlayStation3 (PSN).

Q. Worms Revolution looks different yet familiar; can you tell us more about the landscapes?

A. Essentially we wanted to keep the gameplay in 2D like the previous games but we wanted to push the technology so that it was actually all in 3D for the visuals. It’s not up until recently that we’ve had the computing power to have the ability to do this, so in this iteration of the game we have 3D landscapes with the same level of detail as the 2D landscapes that we had previously.

Q. And how are the particle effects different in this game?

A. In Worms Revolution we’ve managed to put together a special smoke rendering system which has allowed us to do a huge amount of smoke in the game. We have had limitations in the past were we’ve not been able to do very much particle effects per explosion, in this game we’ve managed to put together a system where we can have a huge amount of particles and cover the screen with smoke if we need to so we’re not limited anymore.

Q. In the past there have been objects I’ve had to navigate around; will these be making a return?

A. In Worms Revolution we have a fully featured physics system now in place. In previous games we’ve had static objects on top of the landscape and they’re actually part of the landscape. In Worms Revolution these now move around under physics. In Worms Revolution physics objects can be destroyed and they have extra properties when some of them are destroyed. For example you can have a lighter that explodes, test tubes which expel poison and also water bottles that can blow up and produce water.

Q. What’s this new water that we are seeing?

A. In Worms Revolution we have a brand new water system which is custom made. It’s very realistic; we include properties such as viscosity, compression and also turbulence. The water in Worms Revolution can push objects around so for chain reactions in this game the water is a very big part of that. The water affects the worms and the push force, everything is dampened under water and it’s very difficult for the worms to move around and even jump out of water. Worms don’t die instantly when they hit dynamic water, but it’s very much like poison they take damage at the end of a turn if they are in water.

Here’s a new video for the upcoming game in the long running Worms series, Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. The video shows some typical Worms crazy footage, some dialogues that will bring a smile to your face, and some footage that has to be the most bizarre thing I have ever seen.

Here’s some info on the game as given by the devs:

“Worms: Ultimate Mayhem” is the definitive 3D “Worms” game!

Load your weapons and experience a whole new dimension in destructive turn-based cartoon action! Taking the game into 3D creates all-new strategic and gameplay possibilities.

With over 70 single-player missions and challenges, online and local multiplayer for up to 4 players, 5 multi-player modes, Achievements/Trophies, unprecedented customization of both worms and weapons, and fully destructible environments, it’s bursting with anarchic mayhem.

Battle and puzzle your way through all of the missions from both “Worms 3D” and “Worms 4: Mayhem” – it’s essentially two games in one. With the addition of HD visuals, gameplay enhancements and new extra content, it is the ultimate 3D “Worms” collection!

Worms: Ultimate Mayhem releases in two days’ time for PC, and will release in Q4 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3. Stay tuned for more info.

Team17 Software have announced Alien Breed: Impact for the PS3 through digital delivery on PlayStation Network and for PC through Steam during summer 2010. Alien Breed: Impact is a heavily expanded edition of the XBLA arcade hit “Alien Breed: Evolution”, with suggestions from the community being translated into brand new features by the Team17 developers.

Alien Breed: Impact is an explosive science fiction arcade-shooter that resurrects a classic and much revered franchise. Named after the space hulk collision that rocks the ship of the game’s hero Conrad, Impact features an epic story, swarms of highly intelligent alien enemies, high-impact weapons, highly detailed and rich environments; all implemented with superb technology, using Epic Software’s Unreal Engine 3.

Alien Breed: Impact is now tougher and requires more individual exploration than its predecessor. It features expanded customisability, with upgrades available for weapons that can be purchased using cash looted from corpses and lockers. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, there are enhancements to the co-operative gameplay experience for you and a shooting buddy, not to mention the “Prologue” campaign, which takes players through an updated and expanded introduction to the world of Alien Breed.

Alien Breed: Impact is a testament to Team17’s ongoing desire to improve and to recognize the community as important contributors to their games. Studio Head Martyn Brown echoes these sentiments: “We’re always very keen to hear what our communities are saying about our titles and greatly consider feedback. For Alien Breed: Impact, it was great that we went back to the design and improved the game in many areas, meaning a much tighter gameplay experience for all.”
