Sequel announcements, shadow drops and more madness from Kojima - Gamescom had it all.

Gamescom 2019 kicked off in fairly hyped fashion with Inside Xbox, Stadia Connect and Opening Night Live all happening within a span of hours. There were many big announcements and reveals and while some games kind of disappointed others looked intriguing, if not enticing. Much more has been revealed as the show floor opened so let’s take a look at our picks for the 20 biggest announcements from Gamescom 2019.

Death Stranding – Mama, Deadman and “Gameplay”

The star of Gamescom Opening Night Live was Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding which spared no expense to out-weird previous reveals. Mama (played by Margaret Qualley) has a child born on the other side, who she’s still connected to. Deadman (played by Guillermo del Toro) basically “updates” a baby…sorry, BB and talks about still-mothers. Even the actual gameplay section was all about Geoff Keighley and BB shaking. No, not shaking hands – literally shaking the breach baby in its pod. Depending on where you sit – which is also a thing in-game – Death Stranding either looked madly brilliant or just plain mad. Either way, it made an impact.

Compete in matches, fulfil contracts and avoid the killer storms of the Cycle.

YAGER Development shot to fame with Spec Ops: The Line, while also building a solid following with space sim Dreadnought. However, now it’s announced a new first-person shooter called The Cycle that will be going into alpha testing soon. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The Cycle sees players venturing out into the world of Fortuna III to complete different contracts or quests during matches. A faction called The Federation apparently attempted colonization of the planet, but were stopped by enormous storms referred to as the Cycle. Each match will last for 20 minutes but it’s implied that you can stay on the planet longer than that. It’s “bad for your health”, obviously, but it’s still possible. There will be 20 players in each match, along with lots of alien monsters and some native wildlife.

The alpha will be made available initially on PC in the next few weeks with plans to release it for consoles later. YAGER has stated that the game will be available through Steam so an additional launcher won’t be necessary. Those interested in alpha testing can fill out the form by heading here.
