The first true seasonal event for Bungie’s Destiny 2, The Dawning, is finally live on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The Christmas-themed event sees the Tower adorned in decorations and new loot added to the Eververse store. You know, because that’s where everyone wants to get their loot in a loot-based shooter.

New items include exclusive Dawning armour for each class, emotes, ships, sparrows and transmat effects. You can also acquire shaders and since they’re time-limited, you’ll consume them and then never be able to earn them again. Consumable shaders that you don’t get to keep? Surely that will have players throwing money at the screen.

The Dawning does bring some new activities to Destiny 2 though like snowball fights (including the ability to pelt enemies with snowballs), Mayhem Crucible which adds reduced ability and Super cooldowns to PvP, and the ability to craft gifts for various NPCs. The weekly reset has come and gone in Bungie’s Destiny, bringing a familiar set of activities with new modifiers attached.

The Nightfall this week is The Will of Crota but it’s not the Year One version. This is the revamped strike that came with The Dawning and features plenty of Ogres out to get you. Modifiers include Epic, Void Burn, Juggler, Catapult and Exposure so have fun.

SIVA Crisis Heroic playlist modifiers include Heroic, Solar Burn, Brawler and Ironclad, which sounds like some kind of fun for Sunbreaker Titans. However, perhaps the most interesting thing to come from the weekly reset is the presence of mysterious paper fortunes out of the many gift boxes in the Tower.

Players have reported receiving fortunes such as “An unusual amount of engrams will turn into strange coins” and “Your enemies will tremble before you”. Though the actual content is up for debate, the fortunes are real so share yours below.

Destiny’s latest event The Dawning isn’t just about the returning Strikes or Sparrow Racing League. It also introduces a bunch of quality of life changes and improvements to the experience.

As per the update notes, there are new bounties available from Petra Venj in the Reef to help in gaining Queen’s Wrath Reputation and class items from the accompanying packages now correctly display stats. Players can also purchase Wormspore from the Vanguard Quartermaster, which should help when it comes to material exchanges and leveling up weapons.

The Crucible also sees a number of changes to its core modes. The scores needed for winning have been changed for Supremacy (now 120) and Rumble Supremacy (40). There’s also a slight reduction in the gain of Super energy for Supremacy modes as a whole. Inferno Rift and Inferno Zone Control have been added to Private Matches as well. And to those complaining, Icarus has been removed from the Rift playlist.

If that weren’t enough, players can now wave off heavy ammo during matches if all players do the “Wave” emote successfully. What do you think of The Dawning so far? Let us know below.

Bungie provided a few more quality of life details about its upcoming update for Destiny coinciding with the release of The Dawning.

As per the developer in its latest weekly update, the drop rate for Skeleton Keys has been “slightly increased” in the SIVA Crisis, SIVA Crisis Heroic and Weekly Nightfall playlists. Those who complete the Nightfall will also receive one Skeleton Key per account each week. Considering that Skeleton Keys are required for obtaining max Light level Strike loot, the buff in drop rates are good but receiving one key per account is kind of stingy.

It was also noted that characters after level 40 will now automatically convert Uncommon Engrams to weapon and armour parts when picking them up. No more of these Engrams clogging up your inventory space in Archon’s Forge. Furthermore, you can now buy Passage Coins from Brother Vance for Trials of Osiris with Motes of Light.

Just keep in mind that the Nightfall won’t be available on December 13th from 1 AM PST onwards until update 2.5.0 is live.

Along with Strike Scoring and the return of Exotics like Ice Breaker, Destiny: Rise of Iron’s upcoming event The Dawning will see some new Exotic weapons and ornaments.

The new Exotics are essentially the Void and Solar versions of Thunderlord with the former called Nova Mortis and the latter called Abbadon. The new ornaments are pretty funky as well with Red Death receiving two new skins (Steel Witch and White Witch), Black Spindle receiving two (Cold Between Starts and Ragbone) and more.

The Dawning will begin on December 13th and lasts till January 3rd 2017. Though Strike Scoring and the new Exotics and gear will be permanent, Sparrow Racing League will be retired to the Private Matches interface once the event ends. Destiny’s next big event will take start on December 13th with The Dawning. This is more than just the return of Sparrow Racing League as players will have new gear (at least, whatever’s not a reskin of old gear), new weapons (including two new Exotic bounties), Strike bounties and much more.

The new Strike Scoring system is interesting because it awards medals and points to players for their performance. Strikes like the Nexus, Omnigul and The Shadow Thief are being remastered with new SIVA Fallen thrown in but will Strike Scoring remain after The Dawning event is over?

As confirmed by Game Informer on Twitter, it will. Sparrow racing will also remain and can also be accessed as part of Private Matches. With four tracks total (two from last year), there should be a fair bit of variety this time around.

Destiny: Rise of Iron players will have a new event to take part in on December 13th but it’s not just Sparrow Racing League – it’s a whole new thing called The Dawning. Hinted at several months ago as Days of Dawning, The Dawning will see Sparrow Racing return with new tracks, new Sparrows, new shaders and new emblems.

But that’s not all. The update will also include Strike scoring, where you can earn medals and points to likely net some neat rewards, and new gear and weapons. Icebreaker, the iconic sniper rifle from Year One, will be making it return and we finally get to see the Solar and Void variations of the Thunderlord teased in Year Two.
