Monthly card rewards and in-game events will continue to take place.

In the midst of all the current CCGs, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls: Legends seems to be riding off into the sunset. It was announced on the official subreddit that the development of new content/releases was “on hold” for the time being. Though the game will still be available to download and play with monthly rewards and in-game events (along with maintenance), there aren’t any new expansions in the works.

Those who supported the game over the years will be receiving The Tamriel Collection for free when next logging in. “We are immensely grateful to work on The Elder Scrolls: Legends, to have you as a community, and we sincerely appreciate the love and support you’ve given us,” the developer said. If you’re looking forward to the Asia-specific version of the game, that’s still on track for release.

It’s not the strangest development for The Elder Scrolls: Legends – even titans like Blizzard’s Hearthstone are working overtime to stay relevant. However, along with declining popularity, it could be that Bethesda wants to focus its development efforts elsewhere like The Elder Scrolls: Blades (which is coming to Nintendo Switch in early 2020). Whatever the case may be, it only seems a matter of time before the CCG shuts down for good.

The office will help with development, along with overseeing sales and marketing in the region.

Fallout and The Elder Scrolls publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced a new office opening in Moscow, Russia. The new office will help with Bethesda’s current roster of games, and presumably with future titles. Simeon Chirikov is managing director, and along with experience at Electronic Arts, he’s also worked at Wargaming, which developed the popular World of Tanks.

The Moscow office will have other functions – along with overseeing sales in Russia and CIS, it will also handle marketing. In a recent statement, Bethesda Europe managing director Sean Brennan stated, “The opening of the office in Moscow is a very exciting moment for Bethesda.

“We have an incredible roster of upcoming games including Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls: Blades, RAGE 2, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and DOOM Eternal, as well as a number of live titles that continue to perform well including The Elder Scrolls Online, Quake Champions, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends. Simeon’s extensive knowledge of the Russian and CIS markets will help us to maximize and deliver upon all these titles’ potential.”

This will be Bethesda’s ninth office worldwide, joining key publishing locations like London, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, and so on. Currently, Bethesda Game Studios is working on Fallout 76, which will be going into beta on October 23rd for Xbox One and October 30th for PS4 and PC. The game will officially launch on November 14th, but the studio also has Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 in development for the future.

Bethesda has stated that they will not release the game on platforms that don't support cross-play- and that this is non-negotiable.

It was always Bethesda’s goal to get The Elder Scrolls Legends to as many platforms as possible. However, it looks like they don’t intend to release the game for a platform that does not support cross-platform play, which basically means they won’t release the game on the PS4- unless Sony changes their stance regarding this issue, that is.

Bethesda’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communication Pete Hines spoke with Game Informer at QuakeCon 2018 about this issue, and he pointed out that since it’s a card game, there is no reason why all platforms cannot support cross-play. He stated, “It is our intention in order for the game to come out, it has to be those things on any system. We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing. The way the game works right now on Apple, Google, Steam, and Bethesda.net, it doesn’t matter where you buy your stuff, if you play it on another platform that stuff is there. It doesn’t matter what platform you play on, you play against everyone else who is playing at that moment. There’s no ‘Oh, it’s easier to control, or it has a better frame-rate on this system.’ It’s a strategy card game. It doesn’t matter.”

As of now, it looks like Bethesda is firm in their stance that they will not release the game for any console that doesn’t support cross-play. Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard himself has also spoken in the recent past about how Sony’s problematic attitude is affecting the upcoming Fallout 76. Unless Sony loosens up their stance on the issue, it’s likely that The Elder Scrolls Legends game won’t release for the PS4.

Hines stated, “We continue to talk to all of our platform partners. But those [terms] are essentially non-negotiable. We can’t be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or its walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about.” We’ll just have to wait and see if this pressure leads Sony to change their stance on the issue, and whether this will cause them to rethink their stance for other games (looking at you, Fortnite).

Hopefully, we’ll get to hear more about this in the coming days.

"We shouldn't be afraid," says director Todd Howard, when it comes to developing a multiplayer game.

Bethesda Game Studios led many fans by the hand as it announced long-awaited titles like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. The problem is that those games are out in the far future- even if Starfield could have a current gen release. This year, we’ll have to remain content with Fallout 76, which takes the post-apocalyptic survival gameplay into an online setting.

It’s not like Bethesda hasn’t prepared for the reaction that Fallout 76 has received. However, while it’s going for a games-as-a-service model, which includes free DLC and updates funded by microtransactions, director Todd Howard wants to remind everyone that this isn’t the future of Bethesda.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz Howard said, “It doesn’t mark the future. Corporately we’ve done a mix—people forget sometimes. Elder Scrolls Online is one of the biggest online games in the world, we have Fallout Shelter which we keep updating, and Elder Scrolls: Legends.”

“Anyone who has ever said ‘this is the future and this part of gaming is dead’ has been proven wrong every single time,” he continued. “We like to try it all. For a long time we wanted to try a multiplayer game and we had this idea. We shouldn’t be afraid. We should try it.”

Bethesda’s commitment to single-player titles has been clear, as evidenced by RAGE 2 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood (which can also be played co-op) releasing in 2019, while DOOM: Eternal is also in development. Fallout 76 will have a pretty strong focus in the coming years, but traditional open-world Bethesda games are also on the way. Besides, Fallout 76 will also have single-player servers after launch, if that’s any consolation.

Fallout 76 releases on November 14th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Pete Hines, Vice President of Marketing at Bethesda states that it's always a goal to try and get a game on as many platforms as possible.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is the strategy card game based on the popular RPG series. The game has managed to garner quite a bit of attention. Some of you may have been wondering whether this game would be ported to consoles and according to the latest information, it’s definitely a possibility.

Dualshockers spoke to Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines about this issue, and his perspective is that it’s always better if more players are able to access a particular game. He stated, “Honestly I think everything is on the table. At the end of the day — and this is true for every game, not just Legends — we like to try and get our games to as many platforms as possible, so that as many people as possible have the option to play.

You see it on the Switch when we bring games like Doom and Skyrim and Wolfenstein 2. We spend a lot of time and effort making these things, and the bigger the audience, the better. So yeah, I would love to see us do this on consoles and Switch. But there is a lot of things that we want to do to continue to grow the competitive scene and put out new content, to update and refresh the UI and the player experience.

We have a giant bucket list of stuff we’re constantly working on, so yeah. I hope that happens, but we’ll have to see.”

For now, the company’s focus seems to be to try and polish the game as much as possible before considering porting it to consoles. However, it’s certainly good news that they haven’t yet ruled out the possibility of bringing the game to other platforms. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the company decides is best for the game. Either way, it will be a while before the game may be experienced on consoles.

The Elder Scrolls Legends, the free to play Elder Scrolls based card game from Bethesda, already launched on iPad and PC via Bethesda.net earlier this year. However, Bethesda has now launched the game on Steam (for PC and Mac) and Android tablets, as well.

This includes not just the base game, but also the new content – The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood, which incidentally also launched today – so you’re in for a treat. The Elder Scrolls Legends actually plays very well, and once the game manages to be available to a larger audience of players – which it should be now – it should be able to carve its own niche in the card game market.

If you are going to be playing the game on Android, do keep in mind that you should ideally have a tablet device, and that it needs to be running Android 4.4 or higher. If you want to play this on your smartphone, Bethesda has revealed that it will be coming to iPhone and Android mobile devices this Summer, so stay tuned for that. Hopefully it is announced at E3.

Bethesda's entry in the CCG genre is now available for everybody to play.

A little over a year ago, Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls Legends, a new collectible card game set in The Elder Scrolls universe. Since then, the game has been available on a limited basis via closed betas, and the like. But today, Bethesda’s throw of the gauntlet and challenge to Blizzard’s Hearthstone is finally available to play for just about everybody- the game has now entered open beta, and is available to download and play for free for everybody.

The one caveat is that you will need to play the game through Bethesda’s proprietary Bethesda.net launcher- the game is not currently available on Steam, and there is a good chance that it might not be. But that shouldn’t be much of a problem, since early impressions are very positive. That, coupled with The Elder Scrolls‘ brand recognition, means that it could very well pose a threat to Hearthstone‘s hegemony of the genre.

Are you going to download and play the game? Let us know what you think of it if you do, in the comments section below.

If you are interested...

While it’s not The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s something, I guess- Bethesda showed off a new cinematic for The Elder Scrolls Legends, the collectible card game based on the Elder Scrolls mythos that they announced at E3 last year.

The new game will have a single player campaign mode. Bethesda’s promises about this campaign made this game seem very atypical- strong and compelling story, and great characters. That’s more story focused than just about any Bethesda game before! That said, the single player campaign will have the same kind of choice and consequence that the mainline Elder Scrolls games have, Bethesda promised.

Bethesda confirmed that the game would be coming not just to PC and iPad, but also to Mac, iPhone, and Android phones later this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage from E3 and Bethesda’s showcase, as it breaks.

It's a strategy card battle game.

Bethesda announced that they, too, will be hopping aboard the mobile gaming train with their most lucrative brand- The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a strategy card battle game, has been announced for iPad and PC, and it will tie into the series lore extensively, specifically focusing on Skyrim’s portion of it, but covering everything at large.

The game will be free to play, and it will be launching at the end of this year on PC and iPad. No release date has been announced for either smartphones, or for Android tablets, but we are sure it will be coming soon. The Elder Scrolls: Legends sees Bethesda throw in the gauntlet in the same genre that Hearthstone and the Pokemon Trading Card Game dominate, so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information from Bethesda’s E3 showcase, and from E3 at large.
