Rean Schwarzer, Altina Orion, Towa Herschel, Fie Claussel and more venture to the Calvard Republic under different circumstances.

While The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is available now in North America and Europe, Falcom is going full speed ahead on the next sequel. The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki – Farewell, O Zemuria launches this year for PS4 and PS5 in Japan and sees Van Arkride and friends venturing to Ored, presumably to stop the ruin of Zemuria.

With all the stakes involved, it’s perhaps unsurprising to see characters from other sagas, including Trails of Cold Steel, appear. According to new information by Falcom (via Gematsu), protagonist Rean Schwarzer returns alongside other Class VII members like Crow Armbrust and Altina Orion.

Fie Claussel is also confirmed after appearing in Trails through Daybreak (and the upcoming Trails through Daybreak 2). Towa Herschel, who supported the group through the series, also returns, venturing to a facility that her astronomer grandfather once visited.

Each character has their own goals in Kai no Kiseki, with Rean invited to the Republic of Calvard for some unknown reason and Altina fulfilling a request for the Epstein Foundation. Crow works with Marduk Total Security Company, whose HQ is in Ored. With Van and the others venturing to the same place, their interactions should be intriguing.

The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki – Farewell, O Zemuria launches on September 26th in Japan. Stay tuned for details on its Western release in the future. In the meantime, Trails through Daybreak 2 will launch in early 2025 for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Even with good gameplay, excellent visuals and intriguing stories, these games suffered thanks to some truly insufferable characters.

Characters can make or break a story, providing a memorable tale that will live on for a long time in either glory or infamy. However, just as good characters can uplift a narrative, terrible characters can ruin it. Video game narratives are interesting since even those with less screen time can lead to players hating an experience. Heck, a character can still be great and still garner hatred. Let’s look at 10 video games with some of the most annoying characters.

Frey Holland – Forspoken

Ella Balinska is an incredibly talented actress, but even she couldn’t salvage the horrible writing and characterization that ruined Frey Holland, Forspoken’s protagonist. When the demo was first released, we thought it was just the frequency and quality of the ambient dialogue that was bad (and thankfully, you could reduce it with an in-game setting).

Unfortunately, despite an interesting set-up and reveal near the end, Frey is almost completely unlikable in her general outlook and how she deals with people. The excessive cursing doesn’t help, and even if the final game is allegedly nothing like what was originally pitched, she drags down an already problematic experience.

Some boss fights offer a modicum of hope. However, these 12 bosses will insist on crushing you right away with very little effort.

Boss fights where you have no chance of killing the boss, much less winning, are fairly typical in games. They serve a multitude of purposes, from advancing the narrative to kick-starting the player’s growth in power. Let’s take a look at 12 video game bosses that couldn’t be killed, no matter what you did. Story spoilers follow so be warned.

Phylaks, the Warrior – Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Much of the story in Destiny 2: Beyond Light focuses on harnessing the power of Stasis. Before that though, the player encounters Eramis in Riis-Reborn as she bestows Stasis powers to her followers in the House of Darkness. Upon being discovered, there’s no other choice but to run. Phylaks, the Warrior, also appears to stop you but is completely immune to any damage. Eventually you’ll come back and use the power of Stasis to defeat her before taking down Eramis herself.

The PS4 remaster finally gets a concrete release date.

Xseed Games had announced earlier last year that the PS4 remasters of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 would both be coming to the West in early 2019, and we’ve been waiting for concrete release dates for both of them ever since. We now know that for at least one of them.

Xseed and Marvelous have confirmed to Game Informer that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel will be arriving on the PS4 on March 26. As we already know, the remaster contains dual audio options, and additional recorded lines in the English dub that were previously only available in the game’s PC version. A release date for Trails of Cold Steel 2’s remaster hasn’t yet been announced, but we can probably expect to hear more about that at the Dengeki Game Festival next month.

There’s even more Trails stuff to come beyond that, though. Trails of Cold Steel 3 will be launching in the West later this year, while Trails of Cold Steel 4, which launched in Japan in 2018, might soon receive a western release date as well- or so we hope, at least.

Nihon Falcom president talks about wanting to do a bit more with the Trails of Cold Steel series.

Nihon Falcom will be present at the Dengeki Game Festival 2019, which takes place on March 24th in Japan, with the first development footage for its upcoming Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. However, president Toshihiro Kondo will also be on hand on to talk about the future of the Trails series. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 is coming to PS4 in the West this year, while Trails of Cold Steel 4 released last year in Japan. But what’s next?

Speaking to Gamer.ne.jp, Kondo spoke about wanting the next series to connect to established arcs. He also seemingly wants to expand on Trails of Cold Steel some more. “The Trails of Cold Steel series is over, and naturally one of our challenges is how do we continue, while at the same time we want the next series to trace back the previous stories even for users who haven’t played the Trails of Cold Steel series at all,” he said. “Also, while Trails of Cold Steel wrapped up in four titles, there is still a little more we wanted to do, so I wonder if we’ll do some sort of two-pronged strategy where something can be done on that front.”

Kondo wants to look at doing both things side by side. Either way, you can expect at least one game to be showcased for the series’ 15th anniversary. “I don’t think it’s good to pour too much energy into either thing and fall behind, so I would like to do them side by side,” he said. “Since this year is the series’ 15th anniversary, I’m thinking about showing off another title at the very least.”

Another interesting note is how Kondo wants to “get the series everyone’s hands with as little waiting in between as possible.” This could indicate doing something with titles like Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki, available only in Japan for PSP, PC, and PlayStation Vita. Then again, it could also mean a Western release for Trails of Cold Steel 4. Time will tell, so stay tuned for the Dengeki Game Festival 2019 to learn more.

If you’ve been wanting to get into The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, Nihon Falcom’s classic RPG series, then now might be the right time. The first two games are on sale for PC users via Steam. On top of this, publisher XSEED Games has released updates that also add Japanese voiceovers to both games.

That means you can play both RPGs with their original voice actors (or just select an alternative if you don’t like the English voiceovers). Update 1.6 for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel also adds an online leaderboard measuring total victories, Angler Points, Academic Points, and more to compare with friends.

After what seems like forever, Xseed Games has announced that it’s bringing the PS4 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 to the West in early 2019. Both releases will be sold separately for $49.99 and will have physical launch editions.

Not only that, but they’ll include dual-audio options. That means fans can listen to the Japanese voice acting in a first (in the West) for the entire series. English voice-acting will also be available, and ported from the PC version. Speaking of which, PC players will also be receiving the Japanese voice acting as an option for both games with a free update.

In terms of content, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel Decisive Edition will include the following:

Physical copy of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on PS4 system

50 Mira replica Collector’s Coin

Musical Selections CD containing 21 full-length tracks

SteelBook case featuring only artwork, with a separate outer package design

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2 Relentless Edition is pretty similar, in terms of offering a Steelbook case and an OST on CD.

Physical copy of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2 on PS4 system

Ouroboros Emblem Pin

Musical Selections CD containing 23 full-length tracks

SteelBook case featuring only artwork, with a separate outer package design

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 have both been available on PS3, PS Vita, and PC. The PS4 versions were previously available in Japan only, but now English-speaking audiences across the world will have a chance to enjoy them.

The 24 hour countdown website will run until tomorrow.

Falcom had previously announced that the next entry to The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel would be out sometime in 2018. They had also confirmed that this would be the last entry in the series. Understandably then, there is bound to be a lot of hype for this game so Falcom has now launched a countdown website titled “The Destination of EREBOS”.

As you can see, the URL contains “sen4” in it. In Japan, the series is titled The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki and this is what has led many to conclude that this is a countdown for something related to the next entry into this series. The 24-hour timer should end tomorrow, the 20th of December at 15:00 JST.

We’ll have to wait and see what exactly the countdown is for, so keep your eyes open for any new information regarding the game and the website.

New title in coveted RPG series will also be coming in the future.

If Nihon Falcom’s latest financial results are an indication, it seems that the PS4 will be receiving remasters of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2. If you’ll recall, the third game in the series had recently released in Japan for the PS4.

The remasters are apparently slated for the current fiscal year without any other information mentioned. Whether the titles will be exclusive to PS4 or not was also not mentioned. Will they even be in the same package? One could certainly hope but alas, there are no details on this either.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 originally released for PS3, PlayStation Vita and PC, exploring the Erebonia Arc as opposed to the famous Trails in the Sky trilogy. For those wanting to get into The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on PC, it’s currently available on Steam.

New comparison video highlights improved graphics and additional voiceovers.

Nihon Falcom has another huge release lined up for August, aside from Ys Seven, as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel comes to Steam on August 2nd. A new comparison video has been released showcasing the difference in graphics and voiceover quantity from the PS3 version.

Boasting 50 percent more English lines, which equates to over 5000 additional lines, Trails of Cold Steel also sees numerous improvements in the graphics department. Texture filtering, a higher resolution, improved textures and much more help the game stand out on PC.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel originally released in 2013 for Japan and later in December 2015 for North America on the PS3 and PlayStation Vita. It was lauded for its story-telling, scope, battle system and characters. If you want to get involved in the series early, then there’s also The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the third game of which was released on Steam recently.
