As revealed recently, following the update, the game’s visuals have now been “optimized” for the Nintendo Switch 2 with “improved image quality,” as well as HDR support, which will provide “improved image contrast and brightness.”

Meanwhile, both on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, following the update, Echoes of Wisdom now also features a much-needed gameplay improvements, allowing players to filter favourited Echoes in your collection of Echoes after you have collected more than 30 in total.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available on Nintendo Switch, and playable on Switch 2 – which launches worldwide on June 5 – via backward compatibility.

Nintendo has revealed a list of first-party Switch 1 games that are going to get free updates that will apply smaller-scale enhancements for when they’re played on a Switch 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom are both included in that list. Both titles will add HDR support as well as visual optimizations and improved picture quality, Nintendo says. You will, of course, need an HDR-compatible display when you’re playing in console mode.

The company has also confirmed that similar free Switch 2 enhancements will roll out on the console’s launch day for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World, and others.

Surprisingly, it didn’t reveal any sales figures for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, released on March 20th for the Switch. As for notable titles released last year, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom sold 4.09 million (up from 3.14 million in the previous quarter) while Mario and Luigi: Brothership sold 1.97 million (up from 1.4 million).

Super Mario Party Jamboree also saw a noticeable jump, selling 7.48 million units, about 1.3 million more than the previous quarter. With Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV out on July 24th, it should prove a successful release for the Switch 2 following its launch on June 5th.

The updates in question “may” improve performance or implement GameShare, but as Nintendo notes, the content varies from game to game. So if the fidelity of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet isn’t up to snuff, try not to be too disappointed.

Of course, it’s possible that Nintendo could release updates for additional titles in the future. Time will tell, so stay tuned.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launched on September 26th and saw Princess Zelda take the leading role for the first time. Players embarked on a quest to save Hyrule and locate the missing Link, utilizing the Tri Rod to create copies of objects and enemies. Mario and Luigi: Brothership is the first mainline title in the franchise since 2016’s Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam. Developed by Acquire of Octopath Traveler fame and launched on November 7th, it sees the brothers traversing Concordia, a shattered continent, via Shipshape Island to defeat a new foe, Glohm. Black Myth: Wukong

Chinese game developer Game Science has had a strong debut with Black Myth: Wukong, which will undoubtedly go down as one of the best action experiences of 2024. Based on the classic novel Journey to the West, Black Myth is a thrilling boss rush that starts off strong and never lets its foot off the gas pedal afterward. It’s chock full of memorable fights that are sure to push you to your absolute limits, and the combat rarely gets stale thanks to plenty of abilities and options at your disposal. Couple that with a bevy of imaginative vistas beautifully brought to life through Unreal Engine 5, and that makes Black Myth Wukong a truly special experience and worthy of all the hype.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

There’s something about the second entry in Konami’s survival horror series that keeps fans coming back years and years after its launch. Perhaps it’s the Crime and Punishment-styled plot and how complex James Sunderland’s character, ego and all, is portrayed as he roams this nightmare manifest. While concerns arose over Bloober Team adapting the classic (especially given its previous horror titles), it ultimately delivered on its vision of Silent Hill 2.

Changes seemed a given, whether the over-the-shoulder camera, new attacks for enemies, a more extensive range of areas to explore or a new voice cast. However, Silent Hill 2 remake is a masterpiece in dread-inducing terror, whether you’re walking through its fog-covered streets and watching something scurry nearby or locked in a desperate battle with Pyramid Head. Several sections witnessed significant alterations but didn’t hamper the pacing or story-telling, and the presentation, especially composer Akira Yamaoka’s music, is top-notch. The restless dreams of Konami’s classic will likely continue for generations to come, but the remake offers an excellent homecoming for longtime fans.
