LEGO Fortnite supports up to seven players, and you start with nothing before making some tools and gathering resources from the surrounding area. As you build a base and craft more items, you can make swords, shields and crossbows to take on enemies. Combat has mechanics like dodge-rolling and blocking and looks pretty fluid.

Once you’ve geared up enough, venture into nearby caves and other hidden locations to find rare materials. Alternatively, you can hire villagers to help gather for you. The world is 95 square kilometers, 19 times the size of the Battle Royal Island.

Epic Games says that updates will add more features, “world building”, and LEGO Style Outfits starting from early 2024. Stay tuned for more details on other titles like Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival in the meantime.

Fortnite originally started as a survival crafting experience before morphing into a PvE spin-off, Save the World (whose support subsequently ended). By comparison, LEGO Fortnite appears to be more like Valheim or Terraria, where players roam the world, gather resources, make weapons, and take on bosses. Various other activities include farming, raising animals and building settlements.

LEGO Fortnite launches on December 7th and is playable within Fortnite. December 8th sees the arrival of Rocket Racing from Rocket League developer Psyonix. Fortnite Festival, developed by Harmonix (Rock Band), launches on December 9th. It offers a musical experience with solo and co-op support. Unlike TT Games’ various LEGO titles, like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, LEGO Builder’s Journey offers more free-form gameplay. You’ll face different puzzles and must figure out the solutions using LEGO bricks. The visuals bring the whole thing to life and support ray tracing for a striking yet calming experience.

Of course, those who want complete freedom to build models can use Creative Mode. Choose a themed build plate and create almost anything, from vehicles and ships to a brand-new scene. Once you’re done, use Photo Mode to adjust the angle and lighting, capture some images, and share the results.

LEGO Builder’s Journey is available for iOS, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.

For those who want to design their own LEGO creations, there’s the recently added Creative Mode. This allows for creating different models and scenes with LEGO bricks. Numerous themes and options are available, ranging from the lower part of a car to completely empty plates. You can also paint different bricks and then change the angle and lighting to capture creations in Photo Mode.

The PC version has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 83 percent of user reviews giving it a thumbs-up. Common issues include optimization and performance so it should be interesting to see how it performs on PS4 and PS5. If you’re looking for a LEGO adventure with a more focused narrative, then there’s also LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to dive into.

LEGO Builder’s Journey originally launched for Mac and iOS via Apple Arcade in 2019, followed by a Windows and Nintendo Switch launch in June last year, and an Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One release in November later in the year. If you’re looking for a neat little puzzler to sink some time into, this one might be worth keeping an eye on.
