The series has been enjoying strong and steady sales.

The Witcher has been crucial to CD Projekt’s meteoric success in recent years, and the franchise continues to be a top performer for the company from a commercial standpoint. They recently announced that The Witcher series has collectively sold over 50 million copies worldwide. This is up from 33 million just two years ago, which means that the series has continued to enjoy impressive sales.

Via their official investor relations account, CD Projekt also stated that their revenue in Q1 2020 hit 193 million PLN, which is almost 2.5 times the revenue they posted in the first quarter of 2019. According to CD Projekt, the strong sales of The Witcher 3 were hugely responsible for this, while other releases – such as Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales on the Switch and GWENT on Android devices – also contributed.

The Witcher 3 saw a massive boost in sales towards the end of last year, thanks to the Switch port as well as the renewed worldwide interest in the property after the Netflix series debuted, so it’s not surprising to see the game continuing to sell well even now.

CD Projekt RED are currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, which is due out this September, but have confirmed that the next game they work on will be a new Witcher entry.

The Witcher 3's game director moves into prominent role for the upcoming RPG's development.

Cyberpunk 2077 may have recently lost a prominent member of the development team, but CD Projekt RED claims the game’s development is coming along well, which shouldn’t be in doubt given the talent the studio has at its disposal. Now, it’s come to light that Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who’s also been a prominent figure at the Polish studio for a number of years, has moved into the role of Design Director for the game.

This is as per Tomaszkiewicz’s LinkedIn page. Fans of the studio’s work will likely have recognized the name. Not only is Tomaszkiewicz now the vice president of game development at CD Projekt RED, he’s also been an integral part of the studio’s development teams in the past. On The Witcher, he served as a senior designer, before moving on to serve several roles for the development of The Witcher 2, including lead gameplay designer and quest designer.

On The Witcher 3 and both its expansions – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine – Tomaszkiewicz was the game director. And now, as mentioned, he serves as the Design Director on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.

The upcoming RPG is currently without a release date, but CD Projekt RED recently confirmed that they would be bringing the game to E3 2019. Read more on that through here.

If this doesn't hype you up, you have no soul.

CD Projekt Red, take a bow. Seriously, you deserve it. You’ve come out of nowhere and not only become one of the premier developers of the industry, but your games have not receded in quality as your fame has increased, something that happens all too often.

After the seminal The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, they are now returning for a hat trick of salvos with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt The recently released CGI trailer looks damn good, building Geralt’s character and the tone of the story incredibly well. It also makes the wait for the game that much harder.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is CD Projekt Red’s newest project; it will be an open world RPG releasing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC next year. A Mac release is also anticipated. CD Projekt Red will then move on to releasing Cyberpunk 2077 in 2015.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

"When companies put profit before fans, they create something that’s an empty shell."

CD Projekt Red are really good at giving lecture it seems, even though it is of the good variety. What they say makes sense but as they say actions speak louder than words and they really shouldn’t have gone after those pirates via ISP tracking.

Still, one developer from the studio says that he is saddened at the fact plenty of game studios put profit before what their fans want.

“For me, the number one aim when making a game is to connect with fans,” said lead animator Tomasz Zawada told FMV.

“When companies put profit before fans, they create something that’s an empty shell. You look at it from the outside, and it looks visually awesome and everything is polished, but when you look further into it there’s something lacking inside.

“When you do something from the heart, you put a lot of emotions into it. And even if you can’t polish it the same amount, it still has soul.”

These guys make some good games and also do some good work when it comes to releasing DRM free games and what not. However, they still have done something wrong for which they apologised. Other than that they’re awesome and speak the right thing.

Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

CD Projekt RED’s managing director Adam Badowski he wants the \Witcher series to move into other formats of media, past just video games, which are already based on novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

“It’s true that the game was based on the popularity of the Witcher novels, so there’s no sense in wondering what came first, the chicken or the egg,” Badowski said. “In this case, the books and the author are both of those things.

“Our cooperation has a strict and defined direction. I can’t imagine Andrzej Sapkowski playing a game to do research for the new novels. This is unlikely and would look like writing a book for a game or movie release, which ends badly in most cases; the novel winds up in a collector’s edition and then covers with dust somewhere on the gamer’s shelf.

“We want to develop The Witcher’s universe in other media, not only video games. We have Mr. Sapkowsk’s blessing and what we create is in line with his vision of the world, no matter how the saga will evolve.

“We want The Witcher’s universe to be a part of pop-culture like Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings, and for our fanbase to expand rapidly. We just have to carefully and diligently do our thing.”

We can completely see a movie happening a few years from now. Or maybe a TV show? The HBO TV series of Game of Thrones would certainly hint at the possibility, especially since the two franchises have a lot in common when it comes to themes and tone.

What do you think? Tell us in your comments.

CD Projekt RED, developers of The Witcher 2, told VG247 that DLC should be seen as a means of fan-service and not a way of monetary gain.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, game director at CD Projekt RED explained VG247 the developer’s philosophy when it comes to DLC, “We’ve always believed in free DLCs. The thing is that we consider DLCs as a normal post sale service, which shouldn’t be priced. Back when retail games were dominant, we had expansion packs. These were really large chunks of content, which were worth their price.”

“If today’s DLCs offered the same amount of content they would be worth paying for, but in most cases players think they are overcharged for what they receive. That’s why we offer expansions to our game for free. This is also a way of saying “thank you” to the people who decided to buy our game instead of copying it from an unauthorised source.”

Later today CD Projekt RED, developers of The Witcher and The Witcher 2, are to announce a brand new game at 5PM, rumoured to be an shooter-cum-RPG.

Rather than wait until the press conference, which will be streamed via www.thewitcher.com and The Witcher Facebook page, CDPR have teased some concept art that is sure to get the juices of anticipation brimming come the eventual release.

First of all, this image affirms the notion that the announcement will indeed pertain to a shooter, meaning the title will not only be CDPR’s first non-fantasy game, the first title outside of The Witcher universe and perhaps also the first title to be written entirely in-house.

The image also suggests a world different to that of Temeria, Kaedwen and Nilfgaard; a cyberpunk universe with slatherings of Blade Runner and Deus Ex.

Oh, and mohicans. Everyone likes mohicans.

CDPR told Eurogamer that they will unveil their “second triple-A RPG in development” to be live-streamed on Facebook at 5PM GMT tomorrow.

Earlier this month we reported that CD Projekt RED were hiring for two new projects, one ‘a RPG in a dark fantasy world’ and a second in a ‘brand new setting’. The latter had an icon of a small gun next to the job listing, suggesting CDPR’s announcement will be concerning their first RPG-shooter and an entirely new IP.

Head of Marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewksi told Eurogamer:

“We are gearing up for our upcoming conference and we have encountered some speculations concerning what we will be announcing.

“We would like to share some light about what will happen tomorrow. In regard to the Witcher, we are planning some surprises for the second half of the year and for the next year, but during the conference we will sum-up The Witcher and Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition also, we will give a bunch of new information. To make it really clear – we will not be announcing Witcher 1 for consoles.

“The major announcement on the conference tomorrow is related to the gun icon on cdpred.com career page. We will give you the first bit of information about our second AAA RPG in development. We have some really exciting news to share, so make sure join us at 5PM GMT on our live-stream: facebook.com/thewitcher.”

Mass Effect 3 and Kinect Star Wars end up in the top 5, and again, it should be a pretty good week for EA. Also, an important thing to note is that, Modern Warfare 3 leaves the top 10 list.

The Witcher 2 just came out recently for the Xbox 360 and has been on the receiving end of some fabulous reviews, including ours.

Managing director of CD Projekt Adam Badowski has said to Rock Paper Shotgun that they don’t make games for kids and always have an adult oriented theme in mind.

“Our game is targeted to a grown-up audience. Watching the opposite sex naked is quite pleasant, but real adults don’t get excited over a nipple,” he said of the RPG’s famous sexual content.

“They are a part of our world and their appearance in other media doesn’t shock anyone. The nudity in our game serves the story, it’s a form of artistic expression – they are a part of the game world,” he said.

They don’t try to make games which are accessible for everyone, but follow their vision and don’t care about what people think. The Xbox 360 version of Witcher 2 features a lot of adult scenes and there were very few cuts.

“There are few games like The Witcher 2, and we are not afraid to say, ‘Hey, we are not a game for everyone. We won’t treat you as a child – at any level.

“The gaming community is growing, and every demographic has something for themselves. Diversifying and finding your target is important. We’ve chosen ours – adults who want ambitious games. And we will stick to that,” he added.
