Whether it's the long-rumored new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or not, you can expect the company to market it months ahead.

If you followed rumors of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, especially of a third expansion that could launch this year, the lack of any announcements from CD Projekt RED may seem strange. Of course, it has confirmed that a “heretofore unannounced gaming project” would arrive later this year, but has yet to reveal what it actually is.

During an earnings call, one investor actually asked when the company would start marketing, and whether it would be a “longer” campaign or a possible shadow drop. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski responded, “I’d like to say everything is a possibility. But having said that, our experience and our preference, given the types of games we make, is for longer-term marketing campaigns; we think they tend to work a little bit better than, say, a live drop at some conference or event. So I’d point in that direction.”

Long story short, if The Witcher 3’s new DLC ends up real, don’t expect it to drop out of nowhere suddenly. Then again, whether it will be announced several weeks or months out from launch remains unknown.

Either way, Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz reiterated that the company needs to earn 527 million zloty or roughly $143 million to meet its net profit goal. “As always, I’d like to emphasize we still see it as a very ambitious goal. We continue to believe that with strong back catalogue sales performance this year and the new content we’re planning to release, we have a fair chance of reaching it.”

With Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still racking in the sales (to say nothing of Phantom Liberty, which crossed 10 million sales in May 2025), this new project would certainly put the developer over the top. The question is: When can we expect an announcement?

An analyst told Strefa Inwestorów that they expect it to launch in Q3 2026, taking into account that Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected in November. They felt that September was the “best window,” especially since it would be a nice “back to school” period. Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski believed it could launch in May, retailing for $30, but if an announcement were to happen, it must be in April.

Of course, as we continue to debate when it could launch, CD Projekt RED is hard at work on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, for which it’s scaled up both teams. Project Hadar, a brand new IP, is also making progress with the developer prototyping “specific elements.”

If recent reports and rumors are anything to go by, this could be the long-expected third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Following its latest earnings report for FY 2025, CD Projekt RED has revealed plans to launch a new “heretofore unannounced gaming project” later this year. Announced as part of its plans for the coming year, it also confirmed that development on its other projects is ongoing. Along with this, it reaffirmed plans to scale up its development teams as needed.

“In the coming quarters, the Studio will focus primarily on further development work on ongoing projects; we also plan to publish one of the heretofore unannounced gaming projects,” wrote the company in its earnings report. “In parallel, the studio will continue scaling its dev teams, adapting their respective structures and headcount to the growing needs associated with our multi-project strategy.”

While CD Projekt RED didn’t really reveal any more details about what this unannounced gaming project might be, rumors have been indicated that there are plans for a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This DLC is noted as being a transition point in the story, and reports have indicated that it will primarily focus on protagonist Geralt.

Earlier this week, one analyst expressed the belief that CD Projekt RED is aiming for a September launch for this DLC, since it allows the company to avoid the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is coming out on November 19th.

“I didn’t include DLC for The Witcher 3 in the model, but like everyone else, I assume that CD Projekt will try to release the DLC before the new GTA release date to avoid this difficult period for other titles,” said the analyst (via machine translation). “So definitely before November, probably around Q3. I think September is the best window. In the summer, gamers are on vacation, and September seems like a nice ‘back to school’ period. However, things could change. They might come up with the idea to release it in two or three months.”

The company has also revealed its other plans for the future during the earnings report. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski revealed that one of the projects under development at the studio – Project Hadar – had been moving along, to the extent where developers were working on “multiple prototypes” for its gameplay systems.

“We have an important development update regarding our third franchise, Hadar,” he said during the earnings call. “Work on the project is progressing dynamically, and the team has established the foundations of this entirely new IP. Now, we have clearly defined distinguishing features of this world, and established key pillars that will not only provide the foundation for the game itself, but also, potentially, for other future products.”

“The team is now actively designing specific elements that might be included in the game,” he continued. “We are creating multiple prototypes and implementing them directly in Unreal Engine. This allows us to live-test and verify how selected mechanics and gameplay elements can perform.”

Project Hadar had been revealed back in 2022, with the company noting that it was being developed “100% internally”. What sets it apart from Cyberpunk and The Witcher is the fact that it will not be an adaptation of an already-existing work.

September is believed to be a good release window for the rumored DLC, since it tends to be a "nice 'back to school' period" for fans.

While analysts have believed that CD Projekt RED will be releasing a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt this year, a new report indicates that the targeted release date for this expansion is before the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. According to Polish publication Strefa Inwestorów, this report comes from an analyst, who said that CD Projekt is keen to avoid conflicting release windows with Rockstar Games’ upcoming title.

According to the analyst, this puts the release window for the rumored DLC at Q3, before November. They also noted that September likely works as “the best window” for this DLC, since it tends to be a “nice ‘back to school’ period.”

“We can toss around potential dates, but the company likely takes into account many factors that influence the release window. They’ll probably also have to ensure that the quality from Fool’s Theory is fully satisfactory, so I prefer to assume it will be a bit later.”

Reports of this potential DLC first started coming up back in December, coming in courtesy of Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski. The DLC is expected to bridge the gap in the story between the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming The Witcher 4. According to Chrzanowski, the DLC will be priced at $30, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was also believed to originally be slated for release to coincide with 11th anniversary celebrations for the release of The Witcher 3.

If this DLC comes out, it will be the third major one to come to The Witcher 3, after Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The two previous DLCs already wrapped up much of protagonist Geralt’s narrative arc. The new DLC will likely help in explaining why Ciri is taking over as the protagonist in The Witcher 4. It is also rumoured to be in development at Fool’s Theory.

Earlier this month, notable leaker NateTheHate said in a report that this DLC actually exists. While not too many details were revealed, the leaker noted that what they indicate is that the story will largely revolve around Geralt.

While CD Projekt RED is yet to make any official announcement for the DLC, the studio is confirmed to be hard at work on a number of projects, including The Witcher 4 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

If you're hoping to join Geralt for one last adventure before Ciri takes over as our Witcher on duty, this one's likely to have you smiling.

Fans of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt have been eagerly waiting for news about a potential new DLC chapter coming to the game after nearly a decade. If the latest rumors are to be believed, their hopes may be validated soon enough.

In a response to one of their tweets, popular leaker NateTheHate has stated that the DLC indeed exists, although they were not forthcoming with any further details. However, the assertion does fit in well with theories that the new chapter is reportedly going to focus on Geralt, bridging the story between what is widely seen as the character’s swan song after events in the Blood and Wine expansion and The Witcher 4, where Ciri shows off her swordsmanship and magic prowess.

It’s a move that’s seen as a sort of catalyst for the upcoming title’s promotional campaign, allegedly starting in May 2026, all the way up to its expected release window in late 2027. Furthermore, there is speculation that the new expansion will take Geralt back to Velen, as opposed to earlier rumors that he was going to Zerrakania for his latest outing.

Although CD Projekt RED has been very quiet on this front, even as it assured fans that the remake of the original Witcher is in the works, we’re hoping that we get to hear more about new content for one of modern gaming’s most beloved RPGs. Rest assured, you’ll hear about it as soon as we do, so stay tuned for further updates.

Former Gry-Online editor-in-chief UV o grach seemingly suggests that fans should look a little closer to home for the DLC's setting.

Despite long-running rumors about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s new DLC, there’s been no confirmation or official announcement from CD Projekt RED. Naturally, expectations range from a tie-in to The Witcher 4 to help kickstart marketing to potentially being set in Zerrikania. However, UV o grach, former editor-in-chief of Gry-Online, has teased that the latter won’t be the purported new setting.

In a livestream earlier this month, o grach was asked by viewers about the DLC and suggested that the new region may be closer than expected. While he previously confirmed hearing about a new DLC, he didn’t specifically affirm rumors that it would be set in Zerrikania. Instead, it could be near Velen, building off the existing region (which connects nicely to his stream about asset reuse in world design).

Of course, it’s worth noting that IGN Poland, which first reported about the dragon-obsessed region, specifically noted that this may no longer be the case. After all, both it and PPE, which further corroborated the DLC’s existence, first heard about it years prior, and plans can change significantly in that time.

Regardless of where you might stand on all this, the months are counting down to May when the alleged DLC is supposed to launch. The ball’s currently in CD Projekt RED’s court for an announcement, and all we can do is wait.

NateTheHate and former Gry-Online editor-in-chief confirm hearing about the DLC alongside Ryszard Chojnowski, who worked on The Witcher 1.

Even as it teased new content for this year, CD Projekt RED has remained tight-lipped on whether it’s connected to the long-rumoured expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Nevertheless, reliable insider NateTheHate confirms hearing about it, though he’s “working to confirm details further.”

It was also discovered that last month, former Gry-Online editor-in-chief UV o grach and Ryszard Chojnowski, former project lead on The Witcher 1, discussed hearing about a potential new DLC. Since Gry-Online constitutes a Polish collective of gaming and electronic media sites, and has been around since 2001, there’s some weight behind o grach’s statement.

If that’s not enough, IGN Poland and PPE also confirmed rumors of the new DLC. Allegedly set in Zerrikania, a land that worships dragons, it may have shifted to encompassing Kovir instead. The actual plot and what players can expect is still very much unknown.

While there’s no official word on the DLC’s existence, that hasn’t stopped Noble Securities’ Mateusz Chrzanowski from proclaiming that it will launch in May for $30. Its events will connect to The Witcher 4 while also kicking off marketing for the title (which he believes will launch in 2027).

As always, time will tell, but even if it ends up completely false, fans can still look forward to one final patch with cross-platform mod support for consoles.

IGN Poland and PPE have seemingly known about the DLC for quite some time, lending further credence to an announcement this year.

Who could have guessed that 2026 would begin with not only more rumors about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s alleged new DLC but from multiple sources? Following statements by Polish games insider Borys Nieśpielak and Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski (who both recently double-downed), IGN Poland dropped a bombshell: It’s known about the alleged DLC for “a very long time.”

The story reportedly unfolds in Zerrikania, a region east of Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms, where dragon cults and warrior folk reside. However, the site notes that this may have changed, and it could now be Kovir, the former earldom of Redania, or Poviss, which forms a kingdom alongside the former.

As for why the site didn’t report on this before, it’s apparently because the information originated from only one source (who’s seemingly credible but still). If that isn’t enough, PPE also confirmed hearing about this “new Wild Hunt project” from its own sources, years prior. “We were clearly told in the first half of 2025 that The Witcher 3 would receive new, major content ‘that we will love.'”

This only adds further fuel to my theory that the DLC was to ship alongside The Witcher 3’s “final patch.” With the latter now launching this year, it’s seemingly only a matter of time before CD Projekt RED makes an official announcement.

Whether that happens or not, its parent company has already promised to release some “new content” this year. Cyberpunk 2077 fans craving New Game+ or a third-person camera, keep those dreams alive.

Noble Securities' Mateusz Chrzanowski, who previously stated the DLC would launch in May, adds further fuel to the burning rumors.

Adding to reports that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting new paid DLC, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski told Eurogamer that he’s “100 percent” certain it will happen this year.

“I’m 100 percent certain CDPR will release significant new content this year, as the incentive program is still 700 million PLN short (about $194.281 million).”

This refers to CD Projekt CFO Piotr Nielubowicz’s statement in an earnings call following the company’s recent fiscal report. He stated that, “The earnings condition for 2023 to 2026 was set at 2 billion zloty in cumulative net profit. After 11 out of 16 quarters, 700 million zloty still remains to be earned to reach this target.”

While Nielubowicz noted this to be a “very ambitious goal,” the company believed that, “if things go according to our plan, we have a fair chance of reaching it. Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.”

Chrzanowski, who stated last month that the DLC would launch in May for $30, believes this “program” would motivate the company to release it this year because management would benefit from additional shares. It’s also worth noting that alongside “publicly available sources,” he’s reportedly had conversations with CD Projekt RED.

Granted, this doesn’t guarantee that a DLC exists or that it’s actually launching in May, but CD Projekt’s statement on “new content” is hard to ignore. If not for Cyberpunk 2077, which has been the subject of new quality-of-life features rather than “significant new content,” then what else but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Chrzanowski also alleged that it would bridge the gap with The Witcher 4, which isn’t too far-fetched as far as premises go.

Of course, we’ll need to wait for an official announcement, so stay tuned. At the very least, CD Projekt RED does have one “final patch” coming to the game later this year, adding cross-platform mod support.

Geralt may return for one last hurrah, possibly connecting to Ciri's adventure in The Witcher 4, at least according to rumors.

Do you know when stories stop being stories? As Andrzej Sapkowski wrote in The Witcher novel, The Time of Contempt, it’s the moment someone begins to believe in them. So, how strongly do you believe that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be getting a new expansion?

Let’s back up a bit. “New expansion?” you’re probably asking. It all started back in June 2025 – a time when hype levels were through the roof, and almost anything seemed possible. Polish games insider Borys Nieśpielak said that CD Projekt RED was working on new DLC for The Witcher 3. Consider for a moment that the last expansion for the title was in 2016, and the last time that CD Projekt RED added any new content was with the Complete Edition. And anyone who played that Netflix series tie-in quest can affirm that it’s…actually par for the course when compared to the developer’s other free DLC.

Of course, the months passed, and there was no announcement. Cyberpunk 2077 continued to prove a top seller for the company, and plans for The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 proceeded rather uneventfully. However, last month, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski revealed that he was also expecting a new DLC for The Witcher 3. No beating around the bush about its scale either, as he estimated it would cost $30, release in May 2026, and – the real kicker – it would connect the title to The Witcher 4.

Now there’s a lot to unpack, but since Chrzanowski also believed that it would serve as the start for The Witcher 4’s marketing push, and that the latter would launch in late 2027, it’s not the most outrageous strategy. Still, there’s more than enough skepticism to go around, even when Nieśpielak reaffirmed to Eurogamer that the DLC is still on track.

But just when you think this case is closed, the insider brought up a rather curious statement by CD Projekt. It occurred during an earnings call following the group’s latest earnings report – the same one where it confirmed plans to release The Witcher 4, 5 and 6 in six years.

Chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said that the company’s earnings goal for 2023 to 2026 is two billion zloty, which translates to about $556.4 million. With only five quarters remaining, it still needs to earn a whopping 700 million zloty or roughly $197.4 million. Granted, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty would probably help, but instead, he said something rather curious.

“Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.”

Recent calls? “Reports”? Is this subtly hinting at those rumors that had circulated months prior? It’s hard to say, even more so because Nielubowicz didn’t outright say whether this new content would be coming to Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3. But there’s plenty of reason to assume it’s the latter.

First, the game’s “final” patch – the one that adds cross-platform mod support – was delayed to this year. The reasons could be innocent enough – after all, even the current-gen update required more time for polish. However, CD Projekt RED didn’t provide any further information – simply an apology and a promise to “share more details closer to the release.” Think back to that same current-gen update and remember how it offered more than just PS5 and Xbox Series X/S support.

Is it too far-fetched to assume that the company is launching a paid expansion alongside its “final” patch, and that this delay allows for both to line up just right? And before you assume that this “new content” is for Cyberpunk, Fool’s Theory, which is working on a remake of the first Witcher, is allegedly in charge of this DLC. CDPR has been working with Virtuos on updates to 2077, specifically for quality of life improvements and new features. Ironically, this could be one way to explain why The Witcher Remake is taking time – it’s because Fool’s Theory is also working on this DLC.

By now, however, it’s seemingly a given that this “new content” will launch in 2026 – the company’s own plans certainly indicate that. “When” is the real question, but as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and we may see our fair share in the coming months if it’s indeed for The Witcher 3.

There’s the other big question, though: If this DLC indeed connects The Witcher 3 and 4, how will it do so? Mild spoilers follow for those who haven’t achieved the best ending in the former…which involves – last chance to dip out – Ciri becoming a full-fledged Witcher, receiving the Zireael Silver Sword from Geralt to commemorate the occasion.

A journal entry left things fairly open-ended, simply stating, “Where did the witcher and his ward venture, you ask, and what became of them? That, dear reader, is another story.” On the one hand, it could be a new quest-chain that sees the duo properly hunting monsters together, with Ciri becoming playable (and maybe having a few new tricks over the base game).

Perhaps she’ll have to learn first-hand all the perils of being a Witcher – think something along the lines of Geralt’s lesson in choosing the lesser evil, which ultimately led to his reputation as the Butcher of Blaviken. This quest could even form the foundation for Ciri’s new fighting style, presenting scenarios where she may find it more reasonable to use something that accounts for her agility and range (leading to the use of the chain from The Witcher 4 cinematic trailer).

A more daring approach to this DLC could be to set it sometime after The Witcher 3 and focus solely on Ciri. After all, Geralt is retired – CD Projekt RED could look to honor that and focus on what led Ciri to the North. Which isn’t to say that all the other lessons leading to her becoming a more competent Witcher or discovering her own combat style won’t come into play. It just means that Geralt will have a lesser role. An intriguing gamble, especially since this would mean not only abandoning progress made by Witcher 3 players but having to build out a completely new scenario for Ciri, maybe even introducing some new areas.

It ultimately depends on how CD Projekt RED wants to connect the two games, if that is indeed the goal. Either way, with how beloved The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is, and how much bigger the audience has become over the years, a $30 DLC is practically a license to print money for the company. Remember: The base game sold 60 million copies as of May 2025. Even if only a sixth of that buys the DLC, it will be a monumental success (and that’s a conservative view, especially given the conversion rates for Cyberpunk).

As always, however, its existence is teetering on the edge of “too good to be true” and “so crazy that it could very well happen.” If this is indeed Geralt’s final hurrah, then we can’t think of a better way to go out than by passing the torch.

CD Projekt CFO Piotr Nielubowicz previously talked about "new content" that "may see release in the coming year" and impact earnings.

Between Cyberpunk 2, The Witcher 4, and, oh, two additional Witcher titles to make up the series’ next trilogy, CD Projekt RED certainly has its hands full as of late. So it’s probably surprising to hear that the company is allegedly planning new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – nearly 11 years after its last expansion, Blood and Wine.

Rumors first began circulating courtesy of Borys Nieśpielak, a Polish games insider. While it may seem far-fetched, he reaffirmed this to Eurogamer, citing “several” independent sources. More importantly, he pointed at a statement from CD Projekt RED’s earnings call after its last financial report, seemingly hinting at the same.

“Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program,” said CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz.

Nielubowicz didn’t specifically mention The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (or even Cyberpunk 2077, for that matter), so it’s not a hard confirmation. When prompted for comment by Eurogamer, CD Projekt RED said it doesn’t comment on rumor or speculation, which is par for the course.

However, it does have a “final” patch for The Witcher 3 out this year, which adds cross-platform mod support. Slated for 2025, it faced a delay for mysterious, unknown and, in retrospect, totally not suspicious reasons. If a new DLC is inbound, perhaps it could launch alongside the update?
