Several new games debuted in the top 20, like WILD HEARTS, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

The NPD Group’s report for video game sales in February 2023 is available, and to the surprise of no one, Hogwarts Legacy is on top. Executive director and analyst Mat Piscatella revealed on Twitter that it was the best-selling game of the month and 2023 year-to-date. It also ranked number one for sales across PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam.

Spending on video game content hit $3.9 billion, a one percent increase over the same period last year. Several new titles debuted in the charts, like WILD HEARTS in eighth place, Like a Dragon: Ishin! in ninth and Octopath Traveler 2 in tenth.

Factoring in non-top ten titles, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe debuted in 15th place, Company of Heroes 3 in 16th, and Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line came in at 20th. It’s also worth noting The Last of Us Part 1, which rose from 11th place to sixth place, likely due to the popularity of the HBO series. Even The Last of Us Part 2 benefitted, going from 41st place in January to 18th in February.

Square Enix has released new details for indieszero’s Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line, highlighting the Music Stages and various gameplay styles that players can look forward to.

The Music Stages allow for freely playing any unlocked track. Tracks can be sorted by name, series and other filters. Styles will be familiar to fans of the series (or even Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory). There’s Standard Style which is the default control set-up.

Pair Style allows two players to play together on the same screen. During a Field Music Stage, one player traverses the upper lanes while another takes the lower lanes. In an Event Music Stage, one player takes the left lane while the other is on the right.

Simple Style, as the name denotes, simplifies inputs to a single button. There’s no word yet on whether there’s a Performer Style for maximum challenge. ProfiCards are available for checking gameplay records and can be customized with different icons and designs. ProfiCards can be swapped with other players after Multi Battles and even contain a summonstone.

Finally, some new characters are confirmed for the roster. They include:

Final Fantasy 10

Tidus

Yuna

Auron

Final Fantasy 12

Vaan

Ashe

Baltheir
