Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call community staff versus!

“Cheese on a hamburger.” Yep, someone actually said that in place of an expletive. That someone would be Tobias Palm, the new community executive who, alongside community manager Cat Karskens, takes part in a challenge that comes by way of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call.

The newest showcase trailer admirably demonstrates the games new versus mode which is sure to breath some more life and replay value into the game.

This little semi final vs challenge serves to both introduce the new community executive as well as show off the gameplay of the upcoming rhythm based combat game. In the end however, Cat came out on top, completely destroying Tobias’s score of 3612319 with her huge 5500299.

There are three challenges still to come though! Another semi final at some time today, then the third place decider match up on September 18th and the finals on September 19th, which just so happens to be the release date for the game. You can find and enjoy Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS. There’s even a demo at the minute in the online store. So go nuts!

Some time ago, we brought you news about the Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy: Curtain Call Legacy of Music competition that Square Enix was holding, which essentially asked players to submit a music video of themselves performing the Main Theme from the Final Fantasy series, while also holding a sign stating their favorite Final Fantasy game. The winners would win some pretty sweet and impressive things, including a Japanese limited edition Theatrhythm 3DS, a signed Collctor’s Edition of the game, a trip to the Final Fantasy music concerts, and more.

Anyway, this contest is now live and open to submissions, so if you feel up to it, y0u should go ahead and participate. Although if you are going to participate, you should put your best foot forward- legendary music composer Nobuo Uematsu, will be judging the contest, and you don’t want to fumble before a musical genius like that man, do you?

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy: Curtain Call releases exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS later this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call is the sequel to and expansion of the first Theatrhythm game that Square Enix released for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012, celebrating the musical history of Final Fantasy. The second game, which will be the last of its kind, will be bigger and better, spanning the complete, lauded musical journey of the series.

To celebrate its upcoming launch later this year, Square Enix has announced a special contest- the ‘Legacy of Music’ contest invites all series music lovers to upload 1:30 long clips of themselves to Youtube, performing a piece from the series, with a sign stating their favorite Final Fantasy game.

Judged by the legendary Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu, the Grand Prize winner of the contest will receive:

Complimentary trip for two to attend an upcoming DISTANT WORLDS: FINAL FANTASY concert

All of the official soundtracks for the numbered Final Fantasy titles

One FINAL FANTASY STATIC ARTS Mini Figure

Signed Collector’s Edition of the game

Signed THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY CURTAIN CALL Limited Edition Japanese Nintendo 3DS System

Runners up will also be eligible to win prizes, so really, there’s nothing to lose, get to it! Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call launches exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS later this year.

Dat nostalgia.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy was an extremely interesting game when it was released for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012- it featured a collection of classic tunes across all Final Fantasy games, wrapped together in a neat fusion of rhythm game/RPG mechanics. It was successful enough that Square Enix commissioned a sequel- Curtain Call- that goes bigger and better than the first game in every possible way, and with the release of that game rapidly approaching, Square Enix has decided to share a new gameplay video with us of the game.

This video is the latest in their ‘Legacy of Music’ video series, and it highlights some music from the 16 bit debut of the franchise- Final Fantasy IV, before moving on to the other 16 bit games in the series. Fans of the original games will be hit by wave of nostalgia, as they recognize some iconic tunes.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call is due out exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS this September.

Final Fantasy I-III are on display and sound great.

Square Enix’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call isn’t your typical Final Fantasy game. Actually, it’s not even your typical DS title as it focuses on rhythmic, time-based action but what sets it apart is the inclusion of characters and tunes from across the Final Fantasy franchise. Square Enix showed off some of those tunes and characters in a new vignette series titled “Legacy of Music”, which showcases some of the tunes from Final Fantasy I to III. Check it out above.

Moogles, Chocobos, boss battles and good-old Cid to the tune of retro music – is there anything more you could want? There are 60 playable characters in the game along with songs from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and much more. DLC is also being developed for the game so there will be more to come.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call releases on September 16th in North America and September 19th in Europe for the 3DS.

Square Enix might not give you the Final Fantasy VII remake you crave but dammit if it won’t exploit the franchise for all its worth. Next up is Final Fantasy VII G-Bike which is racing-based. Yes, that’s how far we’ve devolved with the series. Check out the trailer above.

Final Fantasy Agito

Now this is more like it: Final Fantasy Agito is finally available for iOS and Android in Japan. The game is actually set during a different “cycle” in the Type-0 universe so you’ll encounter some familiar characters with different abilities and a new cast. The gameplay will be more tactical than, say, FFXIII and it does look pretty. Hopefully it receives a Western release like Type-0 HD.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

New songs! New characters! More bizarre, off-kilter character design played off super seriously! Plus, there will be a new versus mode.
The 3DS title will be out some time in 2014 for North America and Europe.

After trademark registrations and rumours, Square Enix has finally announced that Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call will be releasing for the West this year. This was indicated in a new announcement trailer for the same, which you can check out above.

Curtain Call will expand on the original game quite heavily with 21 songs culled from the latest Final Fantasy games and properties, including Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and 60 characters which includes Final Fantasy XIII’s Lightning. There will also be new gameplay modes such as Quest Medleys and Versus for that competitive streak in you.

While Square Enix didn’t specify an exact release date, it wouldn’t be too absurd if a specific date were revealed at E3 2014. It’s already been available in Japan for a while so why not? Will you be picking it up for the Nintendo 3DS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Final Fantasy the Musical Part 2 heading to Europe?

Square Enix’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call has been trademarked in Europe for the Nintendo 3DS this past Christmas Eve, even though the game has yet to release in Japan this Spring. The game has actually been trademarked as “Curtain Call” by Square Enix but that’s enough of an indication all the same.

On one hand, Square Enix trademarked the name in North America several months ago, so it could be more about having the trademark for themselves. There could possibly be a Western release in the near future, but it’ll be a while before this is eventually confirmed by Square Enix.

Curtain Call is the sequel to the original rhythm title that allowed you to choose several different Final Fantasy characters and play to the soundtracks of classic games. The sequel will feature more than 200 songs and +60 characters along with music from Final Fantasy Type-0, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
